Technical Stencil VP is the stenciled version of Technical Standard VP and the two typefaces can be used either on their own or together seamlessly. The initial inspiration for their design came from examining the various types of precisely machined labels on tools from cameras to cars, which need to be perfectly legible at all sizes. The unique streamlined look such processes achieve was carefully reinterpreted and the resulting fonts are at the same time robust and stylish, both universal and unique. Technical Stencil VP includes ten distinct styles, offering great versatility. All styles in this family include an extensive Latin character set, the Greek alphabet, multiple sets of numerals, a large set of punctuation marks, and other symbols. With 1120 glyphs in each style, it guarantees full support for all Latin languages. To make the family even more powerful, twenty OpenType features are included, such as multiple vertical positions, diagonal fractional forms, optional slashed zeros, separate old-style and lining figures, small capitals, and contextual alternates.

VLNL Boulangerie was originally an incomplete set of early 20th century wood type letters, that Donald Roos found in a dust covered carton box stashed away somewhere at the Royal Academy in The Hague. Charmed by the letter forms Donald decided to print them on paper with a printing press. Next he digitised the prints as they came out, including small imperfections and damages. The missing characters were composed and added digitally to complete the alphabet. (See if you can spot those!?) We think VLNL Boulangerie is a little French in appearance (hence the name), it's joyful, warm, a little crunchy and round-ish. It defenitely has that ‘je-ne-sais-quoi’ that seperates it from most wood type grotesques. It can be perfect for lettering on a storefront window of – let's say a bread shop or a lunchroom. Or a logo for a downtown hipster café. VLNL Boulangerie hardly has any limitations actually.

I am (trying to) learn Danish using an app on my phone. The grammar and vocabulary are not that difficult, as the Danish language is very close to the Dutch language. The pronunciation, however, is quite tricky. Words look simple when written down, but when pronounced, they sound very different. Take ‘pige’ (‘girl’) - it reads ‘pee-guh’, right? Well, it is pronounced ‘pee-uh’. Or how about ‘brød’ (meaning bread)? If you keep in mind that the o-slash is pronounced as the ‘i’ in bird - almost like ‘uh’, it should be br-uh-d, right? Wrong again. It is pronounced br-uh-l. Aaargghh! I will succeed, hopefully! Utroligt is a Danish word meaning ‘incredible’. It is a nice, uncomplicated all caps font. I made it with a cheap rollerball pen and some nice French paper. Comes with double letter ligatures and all the diacritics you’d like - including the danish ones.

Chop chop! VLNL Cleaver is an important tool in the Vette Letters’ kitchen. It’s a butcher knife of a font. Razor sharp, ultra heavy and with pointy slanted serifs. At first glance it seems straight-lined, but a closer look revails that all straight lines are curved inward slightly, which enhances the sharp image even more. Cleaver was originally designed by DBXL for cutting meat - hell, it even hacks right through bone. It can easily splice a chicken in one slash or seperate ribs, just like that. You can also very well use it to chop up hard vegetables like pumpkin or squash on the chopping block. It gets better, the opposite blunt side can be deployed to crush ingredients like garlic, nuts or spices like black pepper. You could use a grinder, but with Cleaver it’s more fun, isn’t it? Designed by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini and Andrea Tartarelli with Maria Chiara Fantini, Lovelace is Zetafonts homage to the tradition of nineteenth century “Old Style” typography - a revival of Renaissance hand-lettered shapes driven by the desire to create a less formal and more friendly alternative to Bodonian serifs. While taking inspiration from the letter shapes created by Pheimester or Alexander Kay - with their calligraphic curves and heavy angled serifs that influenced Benguiat and Goudy’s typefaces in the 70s - we also tried to add elegance and contrast by following another 19th century revival style: the Elzevir. This digital homage to victorian typography, aptly named after the algorist daughter of lord Byron, is developed in two optical sizes, both in a six weights range from extralight to extrabold.
