Kewl is the result of being caught in the afterimage of one design project while conceptualizing another one. Just before finishing the final tests on Mrs Blackfort, the first of what became a long series of Charles Bluemlein fonts, some of the letters began morphing differently in my mind. The idea was to go on the heavier and more playful side, but with a South American sign letterer’s twist, rather than just good handwriting. I did some sketching, took some notes, then got busy with other projects. Some of that stuff eventually seeped into Candy Script and, to a lesser extent, the Whomp font. But it was only a matter of time before I got back to the original concept and finished it. Kewl is ideal for food packaging, book and music covers, magazines, and window splashes. We popped the Doohickey into the Framistat and out popped this Whatchamacallit! Is it fat? is it thin? Is it tall? Is it short? Is it light? Is it heavy? Is it condensed?! is it expanded?! Yes, yes, yes and yes -- It’s all of the above and more! Our resident mad scientist John “Mr. Fontastic” Roshell has developed a single contraption that can handle any design emergency, from crimelords to supervillain team-ups to alien invasions. Whatchamacallit is a friendly and readable sans-serif, inspired by some of our all-time favorites -- Gill Sans, Futura, Venus and Antique Olive. But, like its machinery-contraption namesakes Doohickey and Framistat, Whatchamacallit has a lively personality -- the strokes are a little wavy, the ends a bit bulbous, and the circles are like little loaves of bread, rising in the Whatchamacallit's oven... delicious!

Menca takes cues from the lettering of engineering, found on road signage and industrial metal plaques.

Bloc Boy is a handwritten typeface by Måns Grebäck.  Its 150+ alternates and swashes gives it great variety, and the contextual alternates ensures the font a genuinely handwritten look.

Nicholas is a headline version of Goodchild , Shinntype’s version of Jenson . It has been specially modified with very fine details and an ultra-tight fit for headlines that really get noticed.

Mister Earl was designed for Bitstream in 1991 by Jennifer Maestre. A narrow decorative sans serif. Cyrillic version was developed in 2001 by Natalia Vasilyeva. For use in advertising and display typography.

Pittsburgh is the latest (as at August 2011) in a range of inter-war American inspired commercial faces, and takes its place alongside the popular Bettendorff and the Spargo family. These shaded stab-serif capitals speak of the heyday of heavy manufacture and engineering and bring a gritty feel of the 20s and 30s to any project. Why not indulge in a little heavy engineering today?

Snow Cap from Bitstream is a wintry display face with snow effects dropped onto Jennifer Maestre’s Mister Earl. Released in 1995, the snow was artfully placed onto each character by Bitstream designer Richard Stetler.
