Article to appear on the font family page: According to the Catholic faith, a well known náhuatl story called "Nican Mopohua" (translated as "Here it's narrate") about the Marianas apparitions on the Tepeyac's hill, to the north of the actual Mexico City. After four apparitions, La Virgen de Guadalupe (LVG) told Juan Diego (JD) that he must introduce himself to the first Bishop of Mexico. JD took in his "ayate" some roses (that aren't natives to Mexico's barren territories) and when he dropped them in front of the bishop, the image of LVG appeared in front of him with indigenous features. I’ve worked a lot in this font that appears to came out of nowhere, just like the image of LVG itself, the fact is that I started first sketching some flowers, because I wanted to do something related to this mexican story, so, taking some features from this flowers I started sketching some letters, for example “r” and “i” and the counter forms for some letters like “a” and “o” (that I didn’t use by the way) and the punctuation marks, all inspired by this leaf forms. Palembang is the second largest city on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. It is also one of the oldest cities in Indonesie and used to be the capital of the powerful Buddhist Kingdom of Srivijaya. After finishing Semarang and Semarang Kolonial fonts, I sort of stayed in the Indonesian mood and named this font Palembang. It is a narrow, tall, all caps Art Deco typeface and would be most suited for headlines, cards, headers and luxury packaging. Palembang comes with royal language support.

After a lot of time sitting at my desk, creating fonts and trying to figure out how my new software works, I really like to work out a bit. The only thing that I do not like is the music they play at the gym; it is usually a selection of poppy tunes that appeals to a large audience. But not to me. I prefer my death metal - and eighties music, as it brings back a lot of good memories. So, I bought myself some ear buds and installed a music streaming app on my phone. Yes, I know, I am probably the last person on earth who discovered streaming... One day, during a workout session, I listened to a list of eighties music and one song that I had forgotten about started playing: Rappers Delight by The Sugarhill Gang. When I started working on the font, I had to think about the song and named it Square Beat. Square Beat font, other than the name implies, is a rounded, handmade font, ideally suited for books and magazines aimed at a young audience, toy packaging or posters. It comes with great language support, including Vietnamese.

Now here's a font with an unusual backstory. You may recall that a while ago we discovered that Tim Burton was using an outdated version of one of our fonts for the interior titles in his The Corpse Bride. Well, our quest to get hold of him didn't bear any immediate fruit, but in a totally unrelated event we were contacted by the graphic arts company working with the overseas distributors for The Corpse Bride and it turned out that they needed a font based on the main title of the movie so they could keep the same style when they retitled it into other languages. The original title was either hand lettered or a heavily modified font, bearing some resemblance to our Ligeia and Tuscarora fonts, so we had to create a whole font more or less from scratch and extrapolate most of the letters from the very limited sample in the original title by identifying certain consistent characteristics and building new characters around them. It was a lot of work, but the good news is that they didn't want exclusivity, so we've got the font to add to our collection. We ended up calling it Beynkales which means 'Bone Bride' in Yiddish, which makes sense given the context of the movie. So here it is, in all its tattered glory, and bound to end up in our Halloween font selection later this year as well. Beynkales Alternate is a companion font that includes a full set of alternative upper and lower case characters which can be used on their own or in combination with the characters from Beynkales to create a more varied and handwritten look.

Milligan is named in honor of the late Spike Milligan, a wonderful comedian who (amongst many other things) wrote and start in the Goon Show. It's a jolly, boisterous display Roman which can bring a sense of liveliness and fun to any project where it's used.

Bonlivet is an all capitals display face, which starts from Roman letter forms and pushes them into wild decorative extravagance. There is a somewhat early 20th century feel to this, but really it’s just a bit of good fun, with a hint of elegance thrown in.

Sadness is based on some experiments during Felix Braden’s stay at the Trier College of Design: "I played around with Fontographer’s blendfonts-feature (a type design tool to interpolate fonts and to minimize effort and expenditure of large families) with some files from a close designer. I am not really a creature of habit, but when I start working on a new font, I make myself a cup of coffee first. I guess you can call that a habit, so I decided to name this font Force Of Habit. Force Of Habit is a nice brush font - made with a cheap pencil that I borrowed from the kids’ colouring box and my trusted (and seemingly ever flowing) Chinese ink. Force Of Habit comes with extensive language support, some alternates and - quite possibly - a faint smell of freshly roasted coffee..

AM Siola is designed as a pure display font. The starting point for this type design was a customized logotype. Logotypes usually just need the design of some characters to form a harmonious, individual lettering. Obviously, it is much more difficult to create a complete font on the basis of just a few characters. The semi-serifs partly running in the opposite direction form the basic idea for this font. AM Siola can well be used for packaging design, logo design and individual headlines for anything from advertising to posters.

The basic letterforms for this typeface were found on a 1920s French poster for Les Arts de Feu by an unnamed artist. The stark geometric forms have been dressed up with an outline treatment, a drop-up shadow and a non-traditional small cap arrangement to make it even more striking, in a spooky kind of way.
