Years ago, I developed an interest in the Japanese art of dwarfed potted trees, bonsai. I bought some books on the subject from Brooklyn Botanic Garden. In one -- Handbook on Bonsai: Special Techniques (seventh printing, February 1976) -- the type was bad. Old worn lead type, I suspect, spread wide in the tops of characters and disappearing on the bottoms. Two decades later, I came across my Brooklyn Botanic Garden collection and was struck again by this interesting type. Inspired, I made a typeface. Didn't take me long to decide on a name for it, either: a name with a double-meaning, based both on its look and its inspiration. Bonsai, the typeface, has two styles, a roman and a true italic.

Teip, designed by Alex Jacque in 2014, is a layerable geometric typeface system. Teip developed as a typographic exploration of overlapping tape where a over/under, foreground/background interplay would be a stylistic motif throughout. For the most part, the uppercase characters have a vertical stress in the foreground, while lowercase have the horizontal stressed in the foreground. Because this is a unicase typeface, upper and lower case glyphs can be mixed for a more random feel in the shape of individual words and the flow of sentences. In Teip, glyph widths and kerning are the same across all styles and weights. This opens up the ability to easily layer one style on top of another to create a large number of color and stylistic combinations.

It is a display typeface. Covergirl is based on handwriting. The basic shapes are transformed to a very high contrast strict form and the hairline runs through the words in an amusing lively way that simulates the writing by hand. While writing the letters will be substituted by one of the variations of the letter, that will make sure that the letters connect well. Linotype Sangue is part of the Take Type Library, selected from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. This prize-winning font was designed by the German artist Gabriele Laubinger. The most distinguishing characteristic of Linotype Sangue is the contrast between the wide, rounded capital letters and the tall, narrow and pointed lower case. Another factor which makes this font so unique is the way Laubinger worked with stroke contrasts, using heavy strokes in the top third of the characters and diminishing to extremely light strokes at the bottom. Linotype Sangue makes a mysterious, secretive impression. It is best used for headlines and displays and shorters texts with point sizes of 12 and larger.

Back in late 2019, Wahyu Wibowo designed a logotype for Wahyu and Sani Co., he decided to shorten the name to be WSCo. for the logo. Steelplate Gothic Pro is a sans serif font family with traditional and drop shadow weights. It shares letterform similarities to conventional Copperplate Gothic families, but has no spur serif endings. Most of the original designs came from the Western Type Foundry when BB&S acquired it in 1918; all were cut by Robert Wiebking. It was recast in 1954 by American Type Founders (ATF). Steve Jackaman (ITF) designed and produced a digital version of the original single weight in 1997. In 2017, Jackaman completely redrew and expanded the family, adding entirely new condensed variants and true small caps. Nidex is a caps-only industrial distressed font, ideal for titles, display and headlines, rough and ready, and coming with all the usual accented characters and an extensive set of punctuation. The misprinted effect is central to the font’s design and is built-in, simplifying the work for posters and flyers, and the example above is made with Regular and Condensed. Upper and Lower Case present 2 different sets of characters, and just a few letters are distinguishably more misprinted. Heer Halewijn (The Song of Lord Halewijn) is a 13th century Dutch folk tale which survives in folk ballad. The story tells of a man called Halewijn, who lives in the woods and who lures pretty women with his songs (whom he then kills). One day a princess visits Halewijn, but when he wants to kill her, she requests he remove his robe, so as not to stain it with her blood. He obliges and when he is undressing, the princess seizes his sword and chops off his head. Halewyn is a handmade font, which was loosely based on my Languedoc font and Garamond. Use it for product packaging, books and posters. Comes in 4 weights (with italics) and a ballad full of diacritics.

In 1805, December second, the Napoleonic French army won the famous battle of Austerlitz, against Autrichian and Russian armies. Napoleon was a great general, but his hand-writing was not legible at all, so he employed a few secretaries who wrote the official mail. This font was created, inspired from letters written by one of these professional secretaries and scribes in the months before the battle. We propose it as a typical example of the French Hand from this period. The font contains numerous ligatures and alternative characters so as to look as close as possible to real handwriting. This naturalistic writing font was based on Gauguin's notebooks from his travels to Tahiti and the South Seas. This set presents two styles of script fonts (Regular & Brush) and a set of decorative extras featuring Gauguin woodcuts, sketches and imagery from his paintings. P22 Gauguin Pro incorporates the font P22 Gauguin Regular plus over 350 additional characters including: Stylistic alternates for all characters (a-z, A-Z), Central European and Cyrillic character sets, ligatures, swash characters and many OpenType features. Gauguin Pro is an OpenType font but is bundled with Gauguin Regular and Gauguin Alternate for use in applications that do not take full advantage of OpenType fonts.
