Phrygia is the Greek name of an ancient state in western-central Anatolia (modern Turkey), extending from the Eskişehir area east to (perhaps) Boğazköy and Alishar Hüyük within the Halys River bend. The Assyrians, a powerful state in northern Mesopotamia to the south, called the state Mushki; what its own people called it is unknown. We know from their inscriptions that the Phrygians spoke an Indo-European language. Judging from historical records supported by ceramic evidence, settlers migrating from the Balkans in Europe first settled here a hundred or more years following the destruction of the Hittite empire (ca. 1200 B.C.). Most of what is known about Phrygian archaeology and its language derives from excavations at the capital city Gordion, located about 60 miles southwest of the modern Turkish capital of Ankara (also a Phrygian site). Gustav and Alfred Körte first excavated Gordion in 1900. The excavators did not reach Phrygian levels, but they did reveal burials dated to the late eighth century B.C. with Phrygian ceramic, metal, and wooden artifacts. From 1950 to 1973, Rodney S. Young of the University of Pennsylvania led excavations at Gordion. Archaeological work at the site resumed in 1988 and continues to the present.

MVB Embarcadero lies in a space between grotesque sans serifs and the vernacular signage lettering drawn by engineers. It’s a style that happens to convey credibility and forthrightness without pretense—it’s anti-style, actually. All of this makes for the most versatile of typefaces, capable of delivering any kind of message while staying out of the way. As is often the case with a type design that develops over several years, Embarcadero isn’t the realization of a specific concept. In the ’90s Mark van Bronkhorst began digitizing a blocky slab serif from the Victorian era, which was then set aside for many years. He later revisited the design, paring it down to its bare essentials, and as more time passed, it evolved from a grid-based outline to curves that echoed the rigid skeleton of the original. Eventually it became a complete family with all the readability requirements of a text sans serif, yet maintaining the subtle eccentricities of its inspiration. Functionally, the Embarcadero family is as adaptable as its design. The OpenType Pro set of 20 fonts contains two widths and five weights, each with italics, small caps, a full set of figures, bullets and arrows, and support for most Latin-based languages. In all, Embarcadero is suitable for headlines or text. And—thanks to its simple, square form—it’s ideal for type on screen too.

Today's digital font technology allowed the world-renowned typeface designer/calligrapher Hermann Zapf to finally realize a vision he first had more than fifty years ago: creating a typeface that could capture the freedom and liveliness of beautiful handwriting. The basic Zapfino™ font family, released in 1998, consists of four alphabets with many additional stylistic alternates that can be freely mixed together to emulate the variations in handwritten text. In 2003, Herman Zapf completely reworked the Zapfino design, creating Zapfino™ Extra. This large expansion of the Zapfino family was designed in close collaboration with Akira Kobayashi. These special Linotype fonts can be distinguished by the letter X" in their name. Zapfino Extra is an OpenType format font, which is available in two versions. Which version you purchase should depend on which software applications you use the most and what features they support! The Contextual version of Zapfino Extra Pro contains a treasure-trove of extra contextual features. When created in 2004, this was the most advanced OpenType font released to date. By purchasing this version, users of OpenType-supporting applications, such as Adobe InDesign, may access all of the features available in the entire Zapfino family through just two fonts, Zapfino Extra LT Pro (Contextual) and Zapfino Forte LT Pro! Unfortunately, most non-Adobe applications currently do not support the contextual features made possible by recent OpenType developments. Users of Quark XPress and Microsoft Office should instead purchase all of the non-contextual fonts of Zapfino Extra Pro family, in order to access all of the Zapfino Extra family's 1676 glyphs. The Zapfino Extra family's character set supports 48 western and central European languages. Use Zapfino Extra to produce unusual and graceful advertisements, packaging, and invitations. It sounds funny, but it can have serious consequences in people’s lives and their relationships. T. D. Jakes deals with the subject effectively in his DVD, He-Motions. We guys need to find our way out of the cave. Our women need to recognize what is going on and gently help us emerge from the cave. Men and women were certainly never meant to be identical, but it would be useful if we could learn to communicate our feelings in more healthy and effective ways. Hey guys! Meet our new font "Luxe Atelier" which is inspired by a bit quirky but still lovely handwriting. When we launched our font "Lolita" in 2019 many liked the way we replaced some uppercase letters with lowercase ones. The response was overwhelmingly positive. The feedback we received inspired us to refine the idea of the lowercase signature style and we created "Luxe Atelier" with a lot more lowercase letters that give an uppercase look. However, some uppercase letters simply cannot be written as lowercase due to their nature: they would just lose their primary sound. For example, when we tried writing lowercase 'e' in the uppercase style it more resembled lowercase 'l' and affected the legibility of the font. Therefore some letters in this font remained as is. When it comes to other letters, we tried maximally to keep the lowercase style. This playful, non-standard signature font with slightly rough edges includes 37 ligatures which will definitely add realistic handwritten character to your designs. It is perfect for branding, signatures, weddings and so much more.

Amateur Printer JNL is comprised of letters and numbers from one of the rubber stamp sign printing sets that were popular with children up until about the 1960s. The letters were printed out on paper, then scanned and converted into a font... leaving all of the rough edges and defects intact to give the look of authentic rubber stamp impressions.

Awkward Gothic JNL gets its name from the fact that it's a non-conformist alphabet - as if rendered by hand by a school child or an amateur lettering artist. Although there is a relative symmetry to most of the letter forms, some unconventional widths and the shape of many of its characters adds to the hand-made look of this alphabet.

Onion Mill is based on my own handwriting, when I want to mimic the classic letters from comics. A heavy duty block-shadow font derived from Sentinel Sten Type, Maus' inflexible, near-featureless block-like shapes give the impression of great mass and solidity. Maus is an example of minimalism in type design, using a minimum of sculpting to elicit the essence of familiar Latin forms. Two sets of complimentary letters allow designers to pick and choose combinations for letter fit, for their symmetric values, or to create a particular look or feel to suit the subject. Obviously Maus has great potential for signage, posters and billboards, and screen-printed garments.

Architype Konstrukt is a collection of avant-garde typefaces deriving mainly from the work of artists/designers of the inter-war years, whose ideals have helped to shape the design philosophies of the modernist movement in Europe. Due to their experimental nature character sets may be limited. Architype Albers draws on early grid-based attempts by Josef Albers, in 1926, to design an alphabet by reducing the forms to purely geometric elements – the square, triangle and parts of a circle – and in the process creating an unusual stencil effect typeface.

Ornamented scripts are a Koziupa/Paul specialty, and Heraldica is one of their most expressive. It attains the very definition of deluxe by conjoining the classic thin-and-thick script treatment with thin-only counterpart strokes, then it goes the extra mile with a varied complement of overlaid flourishes. The usual assortment of multiple alternates and ending forms pushes it even further in class and versatility. Linotype Red Babe is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. With Red Babe, Austrian designer Moritz Majce produced an energetic typeface which gives an impression of movement and change. The letter forms seem to be composed of countless fragments which can’t sit still, fragments which make the original forms burst and then draw them back together with their own rhythm. Linotype Red Babe is best used for headlines in larger point sizes.

The Svati Sava font is a Latin Alphabet layout of a Serbian font. The original letterforms of this font struck me in their modern simplicity while retaing a traditional Eastern European feel and I wished to have a variant of it suitable for Latin Alphabets. To create this font I used many of the letterforms from Serbian and recreated a large portion of the miniscule alphabet. Svati Sava comes with full punctuation, a complete character set for most Western European Latin alphabet languages. Being a decorative font, it works best at larger point sizes.

Fine Gothic was developed over several years, and was partly inspired by the blackletter fonts of the great 20th century calligrapher and lettering designer, Rudolf Koch. Although blackletter has many historical and cultural associations with Germany, and has been used in the English-speaking world excessively on the mastheads of newspapers or the facades of antique shops, contemporary designers should not be deterred from adding these vigorous letterforms to their repertoire. Conventional blackletter tends towards the heavier weights, which makes the Light weight of Fine Gothic something of a delight and a rarity.

The inspiration for this typeface family came from my childhood experiences at West Monkton, amidst an historic part of the South West of England. Studies of the original incised capitals of the Trajan column in Rome were analysed and polished for this modern version. The lower case letterforms and numerals were then created in sympathy, taking their proportions from the incised letters of local gravestones. Its name honours not only the area where the original alphabet was conceived and drawn, but also the people responsible for fostering my initial interest in letters.

Presidio is a stylized version of the hand-lettered calligraphy typical of the Mission era of early California. This lettering was often unique to an individual hand, but the characters shared a common style, and had their roots in the Middle Ages when monks and scholars copied whole books one letter at a time. "Presidio" replicates this style with subtle variations in each character, giving the font its authentic charm.

Designed by Aulia Rahman and Hendra Maulia, Nagaiya is a versatile companion, perfectly usable for a variety of applications. But especially the areas of branding and editorial design. There in particular, the typeface impresses with its look and feel, making the design pleasant and smooth. Take a look at the wonderful lowercase letter /a, or the spiky spurs of the other lowercase letters. That's where the fun begins.

Novelty songs and their often crazy or extra-long titles were all the rage at the beginning of the 20th century. A piece of sheet music for the 1920 song "When Chu-Ching-San weds Paddy McCann" had the title hand lettered in an unusually bold form of Asian-inspired lettering. This has been recreated digitally as the type font named for the song - Chu Ching San JNL.
