Cinnabar Brush is a font named after a mineral - mercury sulfide to be precise. I quite like the name and the color, so naming a font after it made sense. Cinnabar Brush is a very bold, very outspoken brush font. It is all caps, but upper and lower case glyphs differ and can be mixed. It is a bit on the heavy side, so I wouldn't set a text in it. Use Cinnabar Brush for posters, book covers, T-shirts and the like. Comes with a mother lode of diacritics.

This family was inspired from a lot of 1848-1850 French engraved documents reproducing handwritten texts talking about the Paris' insurrection days in June 1848 (described by Victor Hugo in Les misérables) . It seems that all were first written using quill pens, as the strokes are too much heavy and bold for metal pens and even though the engraver work is very fine. We have added only a few characters, most of them were present in the originals. The TTF and OTF versions are enriched with more than 50 ligatures or alternate characters.

Ribbon Cursive was developed largely from Mercator's Italic Hand, which originated from Italy, during the Renaissance. Ribbon Cursive is fancy, legible, and luxurious text. Works great if you are designing a logo, or use it to create some beautiful titling. Use it for advertisement copy, or even for short to medium-length bodies of text. It should be noted that, due to the heavy embellishment of all the capital letters, this font will not work well if your text is set in all capitals! Centim is contemporary sans with sharp top endings of stems that give a bit technical charm to typeface. With a squarish look, it can be used widely in all modern publications or become a part of an corporate identity. In smaller sizes, Centim offers good readability due to its simple and good balanced lines. Centim is the archaic Serbian word for Centimeter, a word that was mostly used in tailoring during XIX and XX century.

Inspired by the lettering on Koloman Moser’s poster design for Fromme’s Calendar (circa 1912), Nouveau Calendar JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions. According to Wikipedia: “Koloman Moser (30 March 1868 – 18 October 1918) was an Austrian artist who exerted considerable influence on twentieth-century graphic art and one of the foremost artists of the Vienna Secession movement and a co-founder of Wiener Werkstätte. Moser designed a wide array of art works, including books and graphic works from postage stamps to magazine vignettes; fashion; stained glass windows, porcelains and ceramics, blown glass, tableware, silver, jewelry, and furniture.”

This typeface is mostly composed of images of dinosaur skeletons drawn by Matthew Schenk and used as stencils for decoration. I thought they would also make a nice typeface. Check the key map—some of the very large critters are cut into pieces and put on several keys—this may help printing in some situations.

‘Bambino New’ font is a geometric sans serif with humanist readability. It comes in 7 different weights, 14 styles and plenty of OpenType features. It can be said it’s an arrogant cousin of Bambino font, mostly because of its legibility, personality and attitude. Each character has been carefully crafted and implemented with properly modified italics.

An online photo gallery showcased a number of vintage and unique signs around Europe – mostly from Germany. One particular sign (“1818-Hoofdkant Spaarbank-1921”) was formed in metal and with stencil letters of a distinctive 1970s feel. This served as the model for Euro Stencil JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Diaconia Old Style is a new rendition of my workhorse body copy font that I originally designed to use for the body copy of "Printing in a Digital World." I became increasingly upset with the lack of lowercase numbers and true small caps. Diaconia started life as a modification of one of the Dutch Bible fonts I traced. It has changed a lot since then (although I have a hard time telling how much because I have lost the original). The plain and italic work especially well when used in very large sizes as display faces. The other four variants (small caps, heavy, heavy italic, and black) are designed for use in book production. Because I format all my own books, I was able to design fonts that met my needs exactly: lowercase numbers, SMALL CAPS font, Mac Command, Option, and Control symbols, ballot box in the section slot, and several other special characters. DiaconiaPro is the OpenType family of my body copy workhorse. This is the first font family I ever created: classic, elegant, easy to read. 583 characters: small caps, oldstyle figures, numerators, denominators, lining figures, accents and a lot more.

VLNL Beatbox is a solid tech heavy straight stencil-face with a lot of character. It was originally designed as a logo for dj Markus Schultz back in 2004, who rejected it. His management couldn't read it, or thought people wouldn’t be able to read it. But Chef Donald DBXL found the concept interesting enough to finish it and has used it in many projects since. It was the identity font for the Battle of Amsterdam, a talent showcase in beat boxing and other skills. Beatboxing is a style of hiphop music (beats) made with the mouth and a microphone. A box is a handy container to store stuff. Like food, or fonts. We use a lot of boxes at the VetteLetters office. VLNL Beatbox is best deployed big, like in logos or headlines. Or flyers, album covers, posters and signage. As a display and headline typeface it’s got a lot of character. We could definitely see it painted on the side of a tank, or an airplane. Salish is a sans-serif typeface inspired by the art of the Salishan tribes in the Northwest Americas. It draws heavily on the concept of the ‘ovoid’, a wide ovular shape that is flat on the bottom and top heavy, that is central to the art style known as ‘Formline’. Designed by Aaron Bell of Saja Typeworks, Salish comes in 5 weights, from Thin to UltraBold. Organic and sublime, Fansan is an Art Nouveau type family that includes roman, italic, and optical sizes. Its roots can be found in famous works such as Benguiat, Windsor, and Melbourne — worldwide typographic references which all have a sense of being imperfectly appealing. The aesthetic influence of Art Nouveau on Fansan can be seen in the top-heavy stress found in most characters. Applying this stress consistently throughout the character set was a significant challenge in the design of the family. The sharp terminals of numerous lowercase characters — including the a, f and g — provide a visual link between the upper and lowercase forms. As a result, Fansan is able to be elegant and pointed in its lighter weights, and playful and full of character in its heavier styles. Fansan is ideally suited for use at display sizes where personality is needed.

Palatino Sans Informal was designed as part of a group of three font families: Palatino nova, Palatino Sans, and Palatino Sans Informal. Together these three families act as the fulfilment of Herman Zapf’s original Palatino idea. Palatino, which was born as a metal typeface in 1950, proved to be one of the 20th Century’s most popular designs. Not only is Palatino Sans Informal a completely new typeface, it is also a completely new interpretation of the entire sans serif genre. Its letterforms are curved, rounded, and soft, not hard and industrial. In comparison with Palatino Sans, Palatino Sans Informal offers eccentricities that are somewhat artistic and more individual looking.
