Vacui Inspired by the Latin phrase "Horror Vacui", translating to "fear of empty space", the Vacui typeface ironically portrays the meaning from a different perspective. Originally intended to fill an entire surface, this typeface playfully illustrates an alternate reality, embracing space in a new minimal form. The modern aesthetic utilises white space to suggest the shapes and curves of letters that we are familiar with, connecting the dots on a subconscious level while introducing new breathing room to the flow of characters and phrases.

The Serif Hand is a handwritten font designed by Fanny Coulez and Julien Saurin in Paris. We wanted to create the most generic, readable and balanced serif handwritten font, to work well in every kind of design. It’s an all-caps font with 5 finely balanced weights with alternates: all the uppercase letters are a bit different from the lowercase letters. Smack, from American designer Jill Bell, is oriented toward a young generation who does not want to mind the rules. The font invites unconventional and playful use. The figures seem to be almost coincidentally shaped. Letters alternate between thin and thick strokes alternate and are accompanied by fine dots which almost look like accidental drops of ink on the paper. Smack is an illustrative font with unmistakable handwriting character and is perfect for cartoons, comics and anything else which is not supposed to take life too seriously.

The sheet music for "I Used to be Color Blind" (from the 1938 Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers movie "Carefree") had its title crafted in ornate Art Deco hand lettering. Keeping the original letter forms, the interior embellishment was simplified to a dot-and-line pattern [eliminating a secondary squiggly line] for a cleaner look. The type design is now digitally available as Performing Arts JNL, in both regular and oblique versions. For those who prefer no ornamentation, there are also regular and oblique versions in solid form.

A deconstructive variation of ”Clarendon“ DéFormé was born out of the distortion of the time-honored ”Clarendon“ letterforms, in which the stems and thin strokes have been reversed. Thus, a typeface was created which will remind some readers of a Western typeface, and others of the ordinary typeface of a typewriter. Actually, it is still a robust Clarendon, which has survived ists disfigurement quite well. DéFormé, like its ”mother“, is easily legible, in spite of the inherent emphasis which one is not used to seeing.

Rilke, is the lettering used by Gustav Klimt on the 1st Vienna Secession poster in 1898 and is named for Klimt’s contemporary the poet Rainer Maria Rilke. The Vienna Secession was a group of artists whose motto was "to every age its art and to art its freedom." Their goal was to create a new style not based upon any historical influence. Its subtle curving strokes and the idiosyncratic set of the various characters create an elegant lightness which lends itself well to poetry, inscription

Urban Grotesk attempts to follow the best of traditions of Grotesk typefaces: rounded arches, slightly thinner connecting strokes and a vertical shadowing axis, where outstrokes are terminated strictly in perpendicular to the stroke direction. The primary characteristics are the connection of the rounded stroke to the stem, a round dot, lower and more thrifty uppercase, and generous numerals. The width proportions of characters is almost unified, the text colour creates a unified grey area on a page. An airy metric aids good legibility in shorter texts.

Arinar is a well modulated, rounded, humanist sans serif font family based on Brinar. A distant ancestor the basic letterforms is Minister (a Dutch bible font of the 19th century) through my first font, Diaconia. There are many OpenType features with over 600 characters: Caps, lower case, small caps, ligatures, discretionary ligatures, swashes, small cap figures, old style figures, numerators, denominators, accent characters (including CE), ordinal numbers (1st-infinity: lining and oldstyle), and so on. Violant fonts are designed as a tribute to Queen Violant, wife of Jaume 1st, king of Aragon, a woman of strong character, who supported her husband in the conquest of Valencia in 1238. Probably, Violant read texts in Gothic letters, which at that time were subjected to a stylization process in Castile and Aragon. Dederon Serif kept most of the elements typical for the Old Style Roman lettering, such as the angle of the stress, the medium x-height, and lower contrast. In large sizes, the typical shapes of the letters stand out – the calligraphic feel characteristic for the Czech typefaces by Oldrich Menhart, the unusual serifs hinting at the angle of the pen, the shapes of the stems, or the terminals of dots and ears. Upon finishing the serif version, a Serif-serif variant called Dederon Serif was added. The construction principles are also derived from the Old Style Roman model, which lends the lettering its open, humanist feel. Yet the design also conforms to the rules of the modern Serif serif.
