Bugleboy started as a digitized version of "Wood Grotesk," a 1970s film typeface by LetterGraphics. Power, speed and modern creature comforts characterized rail travel in the 1930s. To reflect those characteristics, legendary French poster artist A. M. Cassandre employed strong graphic elements and a chiaroscuro letter treatment to the 1939 poster lettering that inspired this font.
