The 1990s was a time of creativity, experimentation and exploration into the world of digital typography by amateur and professional alike. Ray Larabie [through his Larabie Fonts] offered dozens upon dozens of wide-ranging (and often most unusual) freeware fonts. Ray was the driving force of encouragement and a behind-the-scenes “mentor” who helped Jeff Levine Fonts get underway in January of 2006. As his focus changed to high-quality commercial type with the launch of Typodermic, Inc., many of Ray’s “less than perfect” font experiments were withdrawn. He eventually turned those typefaces into a bundled zip archive released into the public domain through Creative Commons. “Webster World” resembles a fusion of Techno and Western styles. With Ray's permission, the original characters have been cleaned up and re-made as Space Traveler JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Belinda New is an updated version of the original Belinda which I designed in 2011. Belinda New is a smooth and lining brush script font with a vintage and retro feel. It has two sets of uppercase and many alternates for lowercase letters. It is a good choice to use in logos, headlines and packages. You can also match it with a serif or sans serif fonts and use it as a secondary font in web design, magazines and branding.

Teksi Teksi I saw you everywhere, I just had to have you. Teksi is a marker felt style font, I’ve seen various hand drawn styles of this typeface or something similar on taxis and vans all over the island of Penang.This hand drawn style is slowly being replaced with boring Arials and other Serif printed fonts, so I wanted to capture the charm of the original. A heavily weighted font which could work for comic styles and headlines. I hope you like it.

I really like the UK and I quite enjoy the British slang. Off Yer Trolley is one such expression. It means ‘behaving in an unusual way or doing something silly’. It just popped in my head when I was looking for a name for this rather silly font. Off Yer Trolley is a handmade cartoon or kids font. As the name implies, this font certainly behaves in an unusual way and you can use it for something silly as well!

This font is not overly distressed, nor is it overly clean. It is a typewriter font. It is perfect when you want a document to look like it was made on a typewriter. This font is primarily based on the typewriter used for a typographic conference document from 1966 in Mainz Germany. The model and age of the typewriter used is not known. Additional characters were sourced from other vintage typewriters and others were designed to complete the full character set.

Boetia is an Art Nouveau period font which is designed to give some of the feel of ancient Greek lettering and design. It also echoes the lettering of the Psychedelic poster era and would be a great addition to any 60s font collection. The overall effect is both modern and classical at the same time, with readable, bold character forms perfect for posters or other titling uses. I was immediately fascinated with the font, Breitfette Unziale, used for Erol Büyükburç's Hop Dedik album cover when I discovered this album. I designed a completely brand new typeface that is inspired by it called Erol Unziale but I also wanted to digitize and revive this typeface since I couldn’t find a digital version of it anywhere online. I took some liberties with the original font and customized it to my liking. Here is my interpretation of Walter Haettenschweiler's font through digitization.

Hyldemoer (in Nordic folklore) is a tree spirit, or nymph, who lives in elder trees. H.C. Andersen also wrote a story about Hyldemoer (‘The Little Elder-Tree Mother’ in English). Hyldemoer font is based on my Mysterious font and the first letters of the Beowulf manuscript (Hwæt! We Gardena…). Hyldemoer is a jumpy fairytale font, which comes with some interesting alternate glyphs and ligatures, plus a harvest of diacritics. Quentin Schmerber’s Temeraire serif font family was not designed to be invisible. It is a typographic exploration meant to be seen — with its beauty, one could even say beheld. While some fonts aim to be as easily ignored as possible, Temeraire is offered as a gift to wide-eyed readers with its anything-but-boring character and its conspicuous inconsistency in styles. Most type families increase the weight of each character to expand the family. Instead, research into 17th century sources produced Temeraire’s wide range of letterforms, from the predictable to the odd and loosely related through time. Each style is designed to work alongside the others but are also standalone homages to specific parts of English lettering tradition: gravestone cutting, writing masters’ copperplates, Italiennes, and others. Temeraire’s Regular style is a contrast-loving Transitional Serif with vertical stress, making it great for period and classic works, ironic pieces, and modern throwbacks. The weight of the Bold squares off the ends of each glyph to give it stability, and the italic style rings true: flowing, contrasting, and purposefully inconsistent. Temeraire’s Display Black style is one salvaged from expressive gravestone artistry. The details most easily noticed are the ‘g’ with its descending bowl that has been pressed back up in the centre, and the additional serif on the ‘t’ crossbar that holds its neighbouring character at bay. (The ‘g’ and ‘Q’ have loopless alternates.) The final style is the Italienne, the horizontally stressed counterpoint to the family. By design its characters flow and bend in ways not in step with the rest of the family. All the weight has been pushed to either hemisphere within each glyph, resulting in a display style that demands space and peacefulness around it so its presence can impress. As with all TypeTogether families, Temeraire meets the current designer’s needs. In the late 1990s Gerard Unger won the assignment to design the signage system for the Holy Year celebrations to be held in Rome in 2000. The system he developed in cooperation with the design agency n|p|k used a classically inspired serif typeface, but the earlier proposals included a sans-serif, which became Vesta (2001). Vesta is a versatile family that can be used as a display face alongside Unger's serif faces Gulliver, Capitolium or Coranto; it can also be used on its own, even in longer texts. Vesta is narrower and therefore more economical than some commonly used sans serifs such as Arial and Helvetica; there is also a noticeable contrast between thick and thin parts, which makes it more lively. Vesta is to be extended with narrow versions, small capitals and old style numerals, along with some special versions for headlines.
