Rivets is a result of my fascination with the beauty I find in utilitarian industrial objects like the decorative ironwork in Grand Central terminal and the eloquent construction details of the urban infrastructure of the 19th and early 20th century. It began as die-raised typography for a magazine cover, developed further for a book about mid-20th century American manufacturing and evolved into a complete font plus four individual components suitable for producing multiple color variations.

MuskitoCaps is a Tuscan (split-serif) font that is rather narrow and a bit awkward. It is caps only, though the lower case differs from the upper case(the lower case lacks the mid-stem spike). The family has three styles, plain, shadowed, and shadowinside. The last has the same shapes as the plain style but has the spacing of the shadowed style so it can be layered with the shadowed style to easily produce bi-colored lettering.

Actium is a contemporary multilingual sans serif typeface developed to help perfect typography automatically. Type Mafia has focussed on words with odd combinations of capital letters and numbers, such as product names and postal codes such as WD40 and H1N5, jump out of the text. They sit awkwardly together as the numerals have been designed to work with the lowercase, not the uppercase letters – affecting readability.To fix this Type Mafia invented Smart Capo™. Smart Capo™ Smart Capo is a feature that automatically activates once you type an uppercase letter together with a number. When a capital letter is sat next to a numeral, Smart Capo converts the letter to a mid-cap — a contemporary alternative to small caps — and the default old-style numeral to a lining numeral. Actium’s mid-caps and lining numerals have been designed with the same height (between cap and x-height) so they sit comfortably next to each other and fit more harmoniously into text. Actium Actium’s design has an unusual diagonal contrast — much more common in a serifed face than in a sans serif — giving it more bite. The typeface looks elegant when set in large sizes and remains very legible when shown in small sizes. The family consists of six weights in two styles, making a dozen fonts. Weights range from light to black in roman and true italic. All fonts are fully loaded with functional elements. Actium boasts an extended Latin character set and with Greek. This means a wide range of Western languages are supported: perfect for use in bilingual publications and packaging. For numerals, each font includes old-style and lining figures in both proportional and tabular widths, with superiors and inferiors. These allow you to select the right set of numbers for the right task.

Kröwn is a ruthless display font family. It is presented in three styles that can be used stacked to create beveling and dimensional effects. Kröwn’s most distinctive feature is the absence of counter shapes, or at least its minimum impact. All counter shapes width is the same as the separation between characters, this creates a blocky, strong and hardcore rhythm. Use it with precaution to build strong titling, powerful logotypes or short letterings. With Kröwn, the less is more, the bigger the better. Its visual style draws inspiration from sword and sorcery fantasy genre and historical periods as the middle age.

Modulario is a geometric sans with some disturbingly individual features. A few capitals owe a bit too much to Roman proportions. The circular O serves to distinguish it from the zero, and the luxuriously wide W and M are both pointed in the middle, although alternatives to the more contentious letters are available within the font. The lowercase shows a little more handwriting influence than is customary – we are used to seeing a writing-style curve at the base of the l, Modulario extends the influence to the i and a, and also sports a uniquely scripty s.

Charlemagne, one of the great rulers of the Middle Ages, was instrumental in the reestablishment of formal education in the West. This font was inspired by the notion that he felt the need to protect his communications from people with the ability to read; a rare skill then. Did he really command such a script to exist? He did instigate the development Carolingian minuscule script. Here are two different systems that are both attributed to him. Does it provide any real security? No, but it is fun to think about how such a system might have been used.

Linotype Scott Mars, from German designer Hellmut Bomm, is part of the TakeType Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contest 1999 for inclusion on the TakeType 3 CD. Bomm constructed this typeface from a consciously limited repertoire of forms, producing a strictly constructed font with a cool, technical look. Worthy of note are also the exalted numeral forms and the unusual size relation of the lower case and capital letters. Scott Mars is best used for headlines and short to middle length texts in point sizes of 10 or larger.

Merel is a modern geometric typeface with humanist attributes. Geometry and logic are at the heart of this 6 weight font family. Humanist touches give it a number of distinctive characteristics, as well as aid legibility. Despite being rational and function driven in its nature, Merel has a soft and gentle touch. It was designed to tackle both print and onscreen challenges of the modern environment. Details include reduced x-height, mild stroke contrast and vertically sheared terminals with cushioned finish across the typeface. Merel features a number of alternative characters, manually edited kerning and Opentype features.

HU Handserif KR contains KOREAN words and Latin alphabets. HU Handserif KR expresses the heart written down by hand in a font. Since there are no curved serifs, it is a handwritten typeface that is easy for children to follow correctly. It was produced using the order of strokes so that Hangeul can be written in the correct order, and the shape and size of the initial consonants, middle consonants, and final consonants were produced correctly. It also has an honest and correct form based on the basic principles of letters and the structure according to the form.

Biographer is a mild upright script drawn by Angel Koziupa, with Alejandro Paul art directing and producing. Elegant but quite reminiscent of roman forms and proportions, Biographer keeps the calligraphy mostly toned down, but its ascenders and descenders occasionally flare out in final swashy confidence. As usual with Sudtipos fonts, alternates are plenty and the personal touch is never amiss. Biographer is great for women's lit and poetry book covers, as well as tame packaging of products where conveying comfort and peace of mind is of importance. An extensive range of languages are covered (Western and Eastern European, Baltic, Turkish, Maltese and Celtic).

Reminicent of mid-19th century antique type and Victorian cast-iron signage, Coldharbour Gothic lovingly preserves all the eroded and rusted textures in digital form. Characters have been selected to have cleaner and rougher counterparts - by flipping between cases, the user can customise the result and achieve the degree of decay or preservation they desire.

A type foundry example showcasing some letters from a narrow slab serif wood type design served as the inspiration for Wood Serif Poster JNL. This condensed typeface is available in both regular and oblique versions, and digitally recreates the kind of lettering found on flyers, broadsides and newspaper headlines of the mid-to-late 1800s.

The typeface was designed at the Polygraphmash type design bureau in 1986 by Isay Slutsker, Svetlana Yermolaeva, Emma Zakharova. Based on Polytizdatkaya type family, 1966, by Vera Chiminova, inspired by the typefaces of the French mid-16th century punchcutter Claude Garamond. Free-form hand lettering on a 1979 poster for the Washington, D.C. exhibition of watercolors and etchings by the Elie Abrahami inspired Art Director JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. This type of lettering was most popular in the late 50s through the mid-60s for movie titles, greeting cards and poster text.

Reminiscent of the hand-lettering found in mid-century children’s books, Akemi Aoki’s MVB Grenadine is a quirky sans, broken free of its geometric roots. Letterforms bounce along the baseline in a jolly dance, yet remain clear and legible, whatever the reader’s age. MVB Grenadine is available in a broad range of six weights, each with italics.

Vintage packaging for Frosty Stencil Flock contained the hand lettered term “spray flock” which served as the basis for Flocking Stencil JNL; available in both regular and oblique versions. Commonly referred to as “Spray Snow”, these kits of holiday stencils and spray cans were a popular item in the households of the 1950s and early-to-mid 1960s.

The devil does indeed find work for idle hands. This was designed by Dan X. Solo about with no excuse whatsoever. The name comes from the fact that a circus that we regularly did work for used it in one of their programs, the only time it was ever used as far as we can recall.

ATC Timberline, is an ultra wide-set sans-serif typeface. With its sharp points and extended curves, ATC Timberline feels just at home in mid-century modern as it does in forward-looking modern settings. Philip Bouwsma makes use of his extensive calligraphy and type design experience by reaching into his vault and completing one of his unfinished projects from the mid-1990s. The result is Styx, a four-font connected-script family, with rough and smooth variations, each containing two sets of majuscules and plenty of alternates sprinkled throughout the character map. The Styx family comes in all popular font formats, and includes an extended range of language support covering Western and Central/Eastern European languages, Turkish, Baltic, Esperanto and Celtic/Welsh. The OpenType fonts contain both flat and class-based kerning.

Forbes consists of one bold weight and is an alphabet in the style of the bold English slab serifs, as made evident by its flexed serifs. This style first made its appearance in the 19th century. It was used at first only on posters but later became available in smaller point sizes and was then be used for titling and headlines. With its robust figures, Forbes should be used exclusively for these applications in middle and large point sizes.

Onyon is a bizarre typeface with vertical stems that thicken in the middle and narrow at the ends. It was created as an experiment to see what a typeface would look like if the vertical stems were diamond or rhombus shaped. The letters are angular with unusual triangular serifs and they have no curves. It is a harsh, cruel typeface that will make your eyes water if you use it at small point sizes for text.

Vowels produce 'end-characters'. These are used whenever a string of symbols start or end. Consonants make 'middle-characters'. Numerals are zero-width characters. these can be used whenever you feel like it, they will float above and below the string of symbols. Puncuation adds extra spice. American Uncial™ was designed by Victor Hammer in 1943. Uncial typefaces consist of letter forms of the Capitalis Monumentalis and the majescule cursive. The origins of Uncial faces date back to the 5th century. In 1953, American Uncial was expanded to include some new figures, also designed by Hammer, and was rereleased by Klingspor with the name Neue Hammer Unziale. The forms are based on old scripts in books of antiquity and the early Middle Ages and the font is a new variation of a classic. Neue Hammer Unziale font has been a favorite for certificates and diplomas and is recommended for headlines and shorter texts in a point size of 12 or larger.

Zagore (zɑːgɔːrɛ) is the name of a beautiful place in Bulgaria. There is no contrast between horizontal and vertical stems, typical for geometric fonts. The typeface is built under strict rules and logic, by using the stroke as skeleton for each glyph. Although the structure of the font remains the same, there is a noticeable visual diversity throughout different styles. Middle weights suggest paragraph use, while the ones at the extremes are more suited for display text. The typeface offers support for Basic Latin, Latin-1 Supplement, Latin Extended-A, Greek and Coptic, Cyrillic, and Cyrillic Supplement Unicode ranges. Included OpenType features are localized forms, to suit multi-language designs, tabular and proportional lining, basic ligatures, and extra symbols.

A “latin” alphabet modelled on the ethiopian Ge'ez script - an experiment that works. Amhara was created by transferring the typical forms of the Ethiopian Amharic script to the west European alphabet. Because Amharic is traditionally written with an expanded pen tip, it shows the typical ductus also characteristic of the uncial scripts of late antiquity and the early Middle Ages. So this font »Amhara« has a somewhat sacramental effect. And, although the individual forms look foreign, the overall picture is strangely familiar. The two styles of »Amhara« include a number of ligatures which dispose of many non-attractive letter combinations. Stylistic alternates are available for some letters, too. Typeface designer and Letraset type director Colin Brignall created the font Romic. The character of the strokes as well as the serif forms give the font its calligraphic look. The placement of the serifs, on the upper left and lower right of a character, also distinguishes this typeface and allows the figures to be set very close to one another. The dots on the i and j do not hang in the air, rather, they are connected to the rest of the letter with a light, serif-like stroke.
