This typeface appears to be straight out of a science fiction movie thriller. Mingo is a slightly condensed, somewhat vain gothic with thick vertical strokes proudly tapering downward. Capitals which are normally completely round are now square inside with curving outside corners. Lowercase letters carry the same design traits. And, in the capital A and H, crossbars extend on both sides helping give the face a pronounced retro look. Mingo Gothic is a close cousin to Raleigh Gothic and is an excellent choice for book covers and large display settings. Obsession has taken me completely in its spell. I could go on forever creating new forms for this script. But I have other fonts to do, so this is as far as my obsession goes for the moment. There are six different cuts and all letters can be mixed.

I love learning new words. I stumbled upon the term Gingerline after I named an older font Gamboge. Like Gamboge, Gingerline is a name for a shade of orange - the color of ripe kumquats to be precise. Didn’t know that! Gingerline font is a handmade calligraphy font; nice and even, thick and thin and quite elegant if I may say so. Comes with an abundance of diacritics as well.

Vacui Inspired by the Latin phrase "Horror Vacui", translating to "fear of empty space", the Vacui typeface ironically portrays the meaning from a different perspective. Originally intended to fill an entire surface, this typeface playfully illustrates an alternate reality, embracing space in a new minimal form. The modern aesthetic utilises white space to suggest the shapes and curves of letters that we are familiar with, connecting the dots on a subconscious level while introducing new breathing room to the flow of characters and phrases.

Around 1931, the Los Angeles Times (in partnership with the Richfield Oil Company) installed on its building a moving message board similar to the one at the New York Times in New York City which they dubbed an “electric newspaper”. The style of characters used on this electronic sign were the basis for the namesake font Electric Newspaper JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.
