Madromit(ma-do-ro-mi) is a somewhat nostalgic display font. Do you remember computer advertisements in the 80s and 90s? Yes, it is the most excited period in the history of computer. We call the design in this period Primitive Digital Design. Madromit is, so to speak, the revival or reconstruction of the primitive digital type in the period. The structure and elements of this font are very simple and the key features are geometric shape and simple griddy design with rounded corners, oval bowls, and right‐angled joints which we used to see in the primitive period. In addition to this, Madromit has one more characteristic feature — classic engraving font —. It is called Open Style. Open style is one of the classic method to decorate and emphasize the font. Our aim is the synergy by the mixture of primitive digital design and classic engraving method. This mixture makes new impression we have never seen before. The Typist Code SansSerif is part of a big family, the Typist Family. The family consists of a monospaced, a Slab Serif and a SansSerif version. The idea behind this family originated from the research into the design of typewriter typestyles, which is also the reason why the monospaced version was released first. Since it was decided from the start to make a SlabSerif and a SansSerif version of these monospaced fonts, it was also a logical consequence that the proportional variants also became available in these versions. The monospaced SansSerif fonts have been given the name 'Code' since they are designed to be used while writing code for a software program, for example. The proportional variants with each 6 weights of the Typist Slab Serif and Code (SansSerif) are now available. Although the name may seem a bit strange, it is a logical consequence from the monospaced variant. The SansSerif variant therefore has Typist Code Prop, written in full the Typist Code Proportional. Wedge’ is the outcome of a search for the essence of a formal alphabet for text — for 26 letters of the simplest form consistent with ease of reading.. Noted New Zealand architect Bruce Rotherham (1926–2004) was inspired by Herbert Bayer’s ‘universal alphabet’ created at the Bauhaus in 1927. While he admired Bayer’s pure geometry, Rotherham felt it was ‘virtually unreadable’. The Bauhaus-inspired inclination for architectural publications to use sans serif faces provoked Rotherham to consider how a readable Roman book face might be approached using some of Bayer’s same principles of simplification, but also retracing the evolution and use of the Roman form in an analytic manner. The Wedge alphabet was started in 1947 when Rotherham was an architecture student at the University of Auckland. It was worked on and refined over several decades but never commercially released, until now. Over sixty years after it was first conceived, Wedge is available from P22.

The Latin, or Roman, alphabet was originally adapted from the Etruscan alphabet during the 7th century BC to write Latin. Since then it has had many different forms, and been adapted to write many other languages. According to Roman legend, the Cimmerian Sibyl, Carmenta, created the Latin alphabet by adapting the Greek alphabet used in the Greek colony of Cumae in southern Italy. This was introduced to Latium by Evander, her son. 60 years after the Trojan war. There is no historical evidence to support this story, which comes from the Roman author, Gaius Julius Hyginus (64BC - 17AD). The earliest known inscriptions in the Latin alphabet date from the 6th century BC. It was adapted from the Etruscan alphabet during the 7th century BC. The letters Y and Z were taken from the Greek alphabet to write Greek loan words. Other letters were added from time to time as the Latin alphabet was adapted for other languages.

This font is the younger sister of HexBraille with which it may be combined to create new patterns. This also explains why their introductory text are similar. Introduction The purpose of this monospace font is to display braille in an original and "steganographic" way. The Kernig prefix means "Robust" in German, this is because of the crank shapes . The core of the glyph design is a flat hexagon which can be read as 3 rows of 2 dots (i.e. regular braille glyph grid). Even if within a glyph, braille dots ("square dots" indeed) are placed on the vertices of a flat hexagon, the difference with HexBraille is that edges connecting vertices are not straight lines but "crank shapes" instead. This can be summarized by saying that the whole glyph is a Hexcrank (a flat hexagon where vertice pairs are connected by a crank shape) NB: The initial design is illustrated by glyphs 'ç' (no dot) and 'û' (6 dots) as shown by poster 6. A. "Kernig Lattice" In KernigBraille, glyphs are connected to each other, thus for each Hexcrank glyph there are 6 connections: 2 on left/right and 4 on top/bottom. In the final design some cranks were removed for esthetical reason (i.e. leave empty space for allowing patterns diversity). In summary, a text using this font won't display a honeycomb but a lattice instead. NB: Please notice that in order to obtain the lattice without vertical gaps, you must set the interline to 0. The lattice is made from 3 kind of shapes: a.1. Hexcrank a.2. Square a.3. Irregular cross (mostly unclosed) The design favored squares over crosses. The whole slightly resembling a PCB. B. The Englishman William Caslon (1672-1766) first cut his typeface Caslon in 1725. His major influences were the Dutch designers Christoffel van Dijcks and Dirck Voskens. The Caslon font was long known as the script of kings, although on the other side of the political spectrum, the Americans used it as well for their Declaration of Independence. The characteristics of the earlier Renaissance typefaces are only barely detectable. The serifs are finer and the axis of the curvature is almost or completely vertical. The overall impression which Caslon makes is serious, elegant and linear. Next to Baskerville, Caslon font is known as the embodiment of the English Baroque-Antiqua and has gone through numerous new interpretations, meaning that every Caslon is slightly different. ITC Caslon 224 was designed by Edward Benguiat and appeared with ITC in 1982. It is the text font which expanded upon the title font ITC Caslon 223. The alterations in the proportions of the letters make this Caslon 224 a noticeable departure from the original, but make the font overall more legible.

Switched On and Switched Off where two fonts developed by placing points on a pre-defined square grid template. The experiment was to explore all the variations possible by just using straight connecting lines on a grid. I stumbled on the final concept, almost accidentally, and was amazed by the numerous possibilities. Both designs where created to work together. By adjusting the stroke and inline proportions between the two fonts, I was able to achieve a good overall color balance between 'Switched On' (dark letters on a light background), and the 'Switched Off' design as a knockout treatment (light letters on a dark background). Used in this way, both fonts visually appear similar in overall weight and proportion. They harmonize well together. Used separately, they make for some interesting visual effects and headline treatments. The fonts are best used at large point sizes, but they are still legible in a variety of smaller sizes. I think that by experimenting with these two fonts one can achieve some stunning visual effects. Explore and have fun.

The Slatz Font Family is Vertical. It has a slender, consistent weight that is best used in limited, left to Right, space limitations as to maximize font height. Slatz font variations all have extremely clean edges and even the serif versions are crisply defined with a flat-pointed serif for an added unique character. The designed intent was for a tight kern, however evenly letterspacing these family members give a distinct personality and continues to command the negative space just as in tight kerned examples. The compatible relationship of these font family members, serif to sans serif, and regular to italic is seamless and the overall design coloring of words as sentences is well balanced and extremely legible. The Slatz Family fonts are matching members glyph to glyph yet there is a noticeable difference between the serif and sans serif members. The sans serif works in contemporary and vintage settings. The serif members work particularly well in vintage, period applications. The Bold and Drop versions of Slatz also fit the above descriptions and also work on their own.

The Quarantinus font was created during the 2020 covid 19 lock-down. Tranquility being all around, the JOEBOB graphics studio almost felt like a monastery, and as a result my style of writing and my choice of pen had to fit. Broadveau is retro typeface that embodies the feel of both Broadway and Art Nouveau.
