Ramkoers means ‘Collision Course’ in Dutch. I made this font with a bit of salvaged plastic and thick black paint. I carved a wedge out of the plastic and used it as a spatula to apply the paint to the paper. Ramkoers is a bit of a rough & ready grunge font with some jagged edges and wobbly stems. Comes with an abundance of diacritics.

Some vintage 1960s-era packaging for dive gear (masks, swim fins, etc.) manufactured by the Voit division of AMF had various merchandise boxes hand-lettered [with some variation of design] in an interesting sans stencil. One of the classic designs of the wood type era is Hamilton Gothic Bold [from the Hamilton Wood Type Foundry circa 1889]. Clean and timeless, it even had found a resurgence during the rock and roll posters of the 1960s, where vintage wood types and Art Nouveau influences merged with the “Hippie Counterculture”. Wood Gothic JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Sheldrake JNL is the second in a series of display fonts modeled from actual water-applied decals that were manufactured by the Duro Decal Company of Chicago (now Duro Art Industries). The font's name derives from the actual phone exchange for Duro, back in the days when a telephone listing had a name-number assignment for recognition. In this case, their number began as "SH(eldrake)-3".

Bugleboy started as a digitized version of "Wood Grotesk," a 1970s film typeface by LetterGraphics. DF A Bit is made for screen display which is the final form of a lot of information nowadays. But there is more in this BIT... in display sizes it unfolds it’s skin, a beautiful ink on paper structure caused by the letterpress printing of copper lines. Analogue BITS indeed. With all the wealth of the ‘non perfect’, to please the eye and to satisfy the mind.

I made Cut Along by stealing some red cardboard from my kids (red, because they didn’t have any black…) and cutting out the glyphs one by one with a pair of scissors. I then pasted the shapes onto white paper, scanned them and turned them into a font. Cut Along is a very nice font for ads, book covers, packaging and children’s books. Enjoy!

For the font design project, I had decided to make a typeface which would reflect the style architectural of Zaha Hadid. My purpose was the presentation of a font to her as Zaha Hadid was alive during my project process. But nearly at the end of the project we unfortunately received the death news of her. Her life wasn't long enough to see the project completed.

African Patchwork was inspired by my observation that many traditional African patterns have strong similarities to the patterns of the American quilting tradition. I chose one of the patterns from the African Pattern Font 04 - Mali (based on traditional bogolan mud cloth designs) that reminded me of quilting patterns and superimposed it onto the Zim Black characters, to create a fusion of African and American design.
