Conrad X. 'Cobb' Shinn (Sept. 4, 1887- Jan. 28, 1951) was a Fillmore, Indiana-born post card illustrator who sold a series of successful novelty postcard lines which included (among others) Charlie Chaplin, automobiles and the Dutch culture in the beginning years of the 20th Century. After serving in World War I, Shinn found the market for novelty postcards dwindling, and he also lent his artistic skills to cartoon features and illustrating many children's books [including his own, under the nickname 'Uncle Cobb'] which taught easy step-by-step drawing methods. Some time in the 1920s, he eventually migrated into the field of supplying electrotypes and stereotypes of 'stock cuts' of photos and line art to the printing trade. In the days of letterpress printing, this was the forerunner of paper clip art and its successor, electronic clip art. Purchasing many of his designs from 'journeyman' artists of the time, the diversity of Cobb Shinn's stock cuts library grew with the passing years, reflecting changing times, styles and topics. Some of the illustrators whose signed works were presented in Shinn's 'CUTalogs' [as he called his stock cuts catalogs] include Mary Clemmitt, Louis H. Hippe, E.C. Klinge, Nelson White, Harvey Fuller, Bess Livings, Lois Head, Harvey Peake and Van Tuyl. Upon his passing in 1951, it's not known how long the Indianapolis-based company existed before finally closing its doors. One of the more popular series of cartoons were the line illustrations of men and women affectionately called 'little big head guys' by many modern fans of these cuts because the heads of the characters were drawn somewhat larger than the rest of their bodies. Back in 2006 when we first released our Happy Holidays font, we thought the War on Christmas was over! We'd taken down our Menorahs, our Christmas trees, reclining Buddhas and red, black and green Kwanzaa decorations, and were prepared to sprinkle nothing more than a little Season's Greetings over our end of year celebrations. When we saw our friends and neighbors at department stores, we'd greet them with a simple, cordial, non-denominational “Happy Holidays.” But the font showed up at our company party this year having learned over 200 new languages (and, it must be said, a little bit loaded on Stylistic Alternates) in a mood to celebrate EVERYTHING. It was wishing people happy Bodhi Day, Solstice, Festivus, you name it! It even brought (count 'em) THREE new outfits based on the colors of Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. So may the designs on the cups of the hot beverages that take you through the long dark coffee break of the soul that stretches from Halloween to Thanksgiving to New Year's Day be a little more festive this year with the refreshed, Remastered, all-inclusive spirit of Happy Holidays!

Linotype Maral is based on an historic Armenian typeface which was originally designed by Henrik Mnatsakanyan. Hrant Papazian has revieved and digitized this four weight type family . Armenian keyboard drivers for Mac OS 9 (and under) as well as for Windows are included when any of the Linotype Maral fonts are purchased. These drivers must be installed before the fonts may be used properly. Linotype Maral will not function properly under Mac OS X, unless you are using the OpenType-format version, which does not work under OS 9! Milk Drops is a semi-casual-feeling cross between a didone and slab serif display font. Elegant, flourishy, whimsical and bold, as much as one font can be any or all of those things! It has highly contrasting weights, but not so much to take itself too seriously or risk legibility. Playfully, it entertains the teardrop motif wherever it can – in expected areas like the descender of a "y" and the ascender of an "f", but also in some whimsical flourishes. Many of the uses of the teardrop motif are implemented on the terminals and ears where many old prints may have suffered from bleed of ink – answering a "what if" question like "what if those accidental bleeds were designed on purpose?" or "what if a font were designed as though it was already seen through blurry eyes?" Milk Drops also features stencil-like open counters and lots of ligatures (32). Note also, it has some super-nerdy additions like symbols for Bitcoin, Pilcrow, Interrobang and Irony Mark. Language Support Milk Drops is highly versatile – with an impressive count of 470 glyphs, it can accommodate up to 78 latin-based languages.
