Once upon a time, Mestre Patau, the «Black» magician, concerned about children´s typefaces historical ugliness, decided to settle the matter and using his vector powers, made letters embellished to be used in that stories so that they were according with the great genius all children have inside. Well done face but happy, goodness is not incompatible with joy. A solid construction, smooth, rounded, vibrant, generous curves and even more generous x-height and general proportions, give to the letter the vitality and freshness needed for use in projects where formality is not a requirement. Naughty but welldone, although not heeding the overshoots or the formal alignments, no symmetry in the horns is, despite this, or because of it, a fresh, cheerful but perfectly legible type. Mairy font family is a modern sans serif font family. Featuring 9 separate weights each followed by own true italics Mairy is positioned somewhere between rounded sans with humanist touch. In fact the humanist presence in Mairy is a little bit more than the usual doze adding more calligraphic elements mostly noticeable in italic weights but also very important in regulars. This symbiosis of Grotesk geometry with handwriting is well balanced regarding contrast and legibility so that at the end we have a highly usable font family. Light weights are very tender and elegant while the old and blacks are soft, friendly and full of vitality. The mid weights are just perfect with their medium contrast and excellent legibility. Mairy is very fresh font family and is surprisingly flexible when it comes to screen or print use – it is optimized for both even if the conditions are poor. Mariner is based on hand lettering originally done by Willy Pogany for his illustrated edition of Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner. It's a variation of classic medieval lettering with decorative elements and alternative versions of almost every character.

Marin, a name that is associated with water and ships, looks very confident and follows the ideas of Eurostile, but in a stencil design. Marin was designed for the URW++ FontForum.

Originally designed in 2003, TitanText now becomes TitanTextOT and it's available in Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic. Includes plenty of OpenType features, like SmallCaps, Alternates, Ligatures and Swashes.

A new font in the style of a dot matrix/needle-printer. I have used some slightly smaller dots when designing the diacritics - this makes them easier to separate from the main letters. I have also used variable letter widths (and kerning), as opposed to the technology's original monospaced design - this to make the text more readable. Matrise Text Pro features a more "oldstyle" look with spurs and notches, while Matrise Pro has a more modern/streamlined design. This typeface takes most of its design cues from Isonorm, developed by the International Standards Organisation in Switzerland in 1980. In this version, the overall design has been homogenized to eliminate some of the anomalous forms in the original. Suitable for both text and headlines with a cutting edge vibe. All versions contain the complete Latin 1252, Central European 1250, Turkish 1254 and Baltic 1257 character sets, with several language-specific localizations.

An antiquated modern display typeface.

Most uppercase letters of these constructivist fonts are made to look like cyrillic letters, so by carefully interspersing those you can set your text and headlines with it and make it look Russian! To a native Russian this of course looks very silly indeed, so to make amends for toying with their letters I have also included a full proper and genuine cyrillic character set. So these are the first CheapProFonts fonts to support languages using the cyrillic script in addition to the usual 65 latin-based languages. This is a classic early 20th century Yiddish font. This has all the new modern Nikud like: Qamats Katan, ShevaNa, Dagesh Hazak and Holam Chaser.

Based on script handwriting and engraving used in formal announcements and invitations, the Flemish Script font lends itself to typesetting in which an elegant mood is desired. Flemish Script, Citadel, Florentine Script, and Old Fashion Script have similar lowercase letters but unique flourished capitals. Flemish Script makes a very decorative choice for labels and packaging, greeting cards and invitations.

Since the release of the first Andrea Handwriting in 2008, requests have come in for additional weights of the four variants in the font family. Andrea Handwriting II includes 16 fonts featuring four weights of the four original styles in the first release which have been improved for a more polished look, but still with a personal and casual feel. Sixteen styles – what’s your type?

Informed by classic grotesk proportions and principles within musical theory, II Increments Sans results in a rhythmic and composed sans-serif. Developed over several years by the late Otl Aicher and first released in the late 1980s, the Rotis® typeface has become a timeless classic. ROTIS II SANS HISTORY Aicher was a renowned German designer and corporate image consultant. He created the four basic designs of Rotis – sans serif, semi sans, semi seif and serif – within an extended typeface family concept, wherein all designs share a common cap height, lowercase x-height, basic stem weight and general proportions. While each version is part of the large, integrated family, each was also designed to function on its own as a distinctive typestyle. The result is that all members of the Rotis family combine smoothly with each other. Aicher, however, did not design the Rotis family with the weights and proportions normal for more contemporary releases. Rotis Sans Serif, for example, was drawn with just six weights and only two italics. Starting in 2010, Robin Nicholas, senior designer for Monotype Imaging in the UK, and freelance designer Alice Savoie collaborated to bring Rotis Sans Serif up to current standards. The result is Rotis II Sans, a completely new addition to the Rotis family. “We devised our approach together,” recalls Savoie, “deciding which weights to start with, what kind of alterations to make to the original Rotis, etc. I went to work on the typefaces, regularly submitting proofs to Robin. We would then decide in tandem on the next steps to take.” Nicholas elaborates, “We revisited the range of weights and added matching italics so that the new additions to the family offer increased versatility. We optimized the outlines, corrected the weight of several letters and re-examined overall spacing and kerning. In addition to a new set of numerals, with a height similar to the capitals, we also drew case-sensitive punctuation.” ROTIS II SANS USAGE The new Rotis II Sans suite comprises 14 typefaces: seven weights, ranging from extra light to black, each with a companion italic. The designs are available as OpenType® Pro fonts, allowing for automatic insertion of ligatures and fractions. Pro fonts also offer an extended character set supporting most Central European and many Eastern European languages. Aicher’s original Rotis designs were widely used for branding and advertising. With the addition of Rotis II Sans, the family is again poised to become a powerful communicator.

Letters that occur more often for example vowels have two or more different versions stored in the font. (➶ Figure 4) These alternative forms are exchanged automatically by the font as you type, and create a vivid look that comes close to actual handwriting. The font avoids that two identical letters are placed next to each other like, for example the two “o” in the word “look”. ➸ What Historic Sources is the Font based on? Two historic documents were used to base the font on. The notes Luther took before giving his speech in Worms in 1521 and a 6 page letter he wrote immediately after to Emperor Charles V., summarising his speech (➶ Figure 2). Both documents have been added to the UNESCO “Memory of the World” and can be seen at the Google Arts and Culture website. ➸ The Creation of a Handwriting Font The creation of a handwriting font is very different from the creation of a regular font. Harald Geisler has specialised in recreating handwriting in preceding projects with Albert Einstein’s, Sigmund Freud’s and his own handwriting. His experience working with Archives and Museums has gone into this project. First Geisler analyses the movement in the writing to understand how each letter is drawn. This involves partially learning how to write like a person. In this process not the outlines of the sample are reproduced but the original movement path of the handwriting (➶ Figure 3). In a second step width and contrast is added to reproduce Martin Luther’s characteristic impetus and the writing tools used at the time. Some Glyphs can not be found in 500 year old manuscripts, for example the @-sign. Towards the end of the creation one collects a profund amount of details about how a writer moves on paper and addresses certain tasks moving the pen. Keeping this knowledge in mind an improvisation can be based on similar letter forms. Yes, it is a clear reference to one of my all-time favourite movies: “The Wedding Singer”, but it is also a handmade, rough, organic looking ALL CAPS font. The letters are simple and legible, but vary in roughness and because of the Contextual Alternates, you get 5 different versions of each letter - leaving the text more lively and organic!

Martin Crantz (or sometimes Krantz) of the three, including Ulrich Gering and Michael Friburger, that set up a press at the Sorbonne in 1470 was likely the fellow who had the technical know how how to cast the type itself, hence the name of this new face that is based on his work. This font has been expanded to meet the demands of modern day use but it also contains a number of specialized glyphs that allow for the recreation of text in the manner of his day with such characters as the -rum abbreviation and other handy Renaissance oddities. Since this face was designed prior to 1501 there is no italic variant in keeping with the spirit of historical accuracy.
