Aphrosine is a font based on pointed pen script. A huge lot of alternatives and smart OpenType features allow it to look almost indistinguishable from real live handwriting. Aphrosine is something between handwriting and calligraphy: it took too much effort for being “just handwriting” but lacks seriousness and regularity comparing to true calligraphic fonts. That’s why it was called after a peculiar character from a children’s book: a witch who was very fond of dressing, makeup and writing letters. Aphrosine has three faces. But unlike most other type families, the glyphs from one face do not match exactly the glyphs from another one. The faces are based on writing with different nibs but by the same hand. The type is designed by Alexandra Korolkova and Alexander Lubovenko and released by ParaType in 2015.

I recently walked part of the South West Coast Path in the UK. A couple of days in the hike, I came across a small cafe and I decided to have an oat latte (I am lactose intolerant). Since it was early in the morning, the breakfast menu was out and one of the items I noticed was ‘Overnight Oats’. I normally cook my oats with some lactose free milk and water, but apparently you can soak them overnight, add fruit and nuts and eat it like that. I tried it, it’s ok, but I think I prefer the cooked version. Overnight Oats is a bit of an odd font: it is very higgledy piggledy, yet legible and unique. If you want something out of the ordinary, then this may be your font!

Insider is a warm & legible grotesque. It’s custom made for Insider Consulting in Düsseldorf, Germany. It’s highly legible in small sizes because of the basic proportions and the balanced inner forms. It’s optimized for setting longer texts, but also works very well in headlines and leads. The fonts contain loads of OpenType features to spice up your design. The matching Stencil font is very suited for creative designs. The Stencil Regular has the same dimensions as the Insider Regular, so you can mix them without hassle. The font family has real italics and not just mathematically slanted romans. The Gabriela project is of great importance to us since it is the first font published by Latinotype México which is our brand-new sister foundry in Mexico. Utily Sans emerges from the question: "What would the world be like if Paul Renner had had greater inclination towards humanism rather than geometry?" In 2006 the art director of Emotion, a women’s psychology magazine, asked me to design a copy typeface for them. Before I actually got the job I started to work on a serif. I wanted it to be feminine but still clear and modern. On one hand there are the floral round elements and on the other hand the angular serifs. In the composition I wanted the two extremes to work together. All the other elements had to be harmonized. The proportions needed to match the magazine’s requirements. The ascenders and descenders are short enough to work in narrow columns but long enough to work in small sizes. As you can imagine, the emotion-job never happened. In copy you should not get heavier than Heavy. Extrabold and Ultrabold work best in display.

Monstro is a carefully hand-crafted typeface with different lettershapes on upper- and lowercase slots, although being an all-caps font. When working in OpenType savvy applications, the contextual alternates feature can take care of alternating the glyphs, preventing double letters from showing the same lettershape while bringing more spontaneity to your designs. Years ago, by happenstance, designers Nancy Mazzei and Brian Kelly found an old decrepit typewriter in an abandoned lot with tall grass in Brooklyn. They kept it around their apartment for two years. Then one day they decided that it was time to move and they planned to throw the old typewriter away. But it was so beautiful they wanted to keep at least a part of it. So they decided on keeping the keys. They kept the keys in a brown bag until one fine day the keys were introduced to a camera. It was a match made in heaven that resulted in some beautiful quirky images of typewriter keys. These images were the inspiration for Backspacer. They were scanned, traced and turned into a working typeface by Zuzana Licko.

Sharik Sans (named after the brave and smart dog-hero from my favorite TV series) has a warm and gentle personality. It does not shout; it does not stand out. Sharik serves his master in everyday work. Although it is a sans serif, you can feel a calligrapher’s touch in its subtle details and endings. They shine out, especially at display sizes. The family consists of nine weights plus matching italics. It meets most of the needs designers deal with on a daily basis, including web usage. It is stuffed up with various OpenType features such as small capitals, a wide set of numerals, fractions, ordinals, alternates, and, of course, ligatures. And it perfectly harmonises with my other serif-like typeface family Clavo. NB: This font is NOT style linked by weight!

Geometric sans serif is one of my favorite fonts because it's so, simple, clean and modern, and a long time I've been dreaming of making this type, inspired by many media and especially "Futura, 1927" ( by Early Bauer) I created "Magnify" Geometric sans. The structure and element shape of Magnify is not really perfectly circle, but slightly oval it can be seen in the uppercase letters O, G, C, Q and in the lowercase letters o, a, c, e. Gianluca is a typeface of glyphic serif, or “flare” inspired by Aldo Novarese’s fonts from the 70s, with a fresh and modern touch. It is a type family that can be elegant in its normal version, or very playful, to compose from extensive texts to flashy headlines in books, magazines, labels, posters, branding and more. It has many discretionary ligatures in capital letters (with its diacritics) to play with the text, 5 stylistic sets: among them medieval style or references to Herb Lubalin, and some special letters. Loft is a typeface family of extremes: from the extra compressed Hairline to the extra wide Mammoth. Paris-based designer Julien Janiszewski’s aim was to create a type family based on a strict hierarchy — a suite that would provide graphic designers with a tool to create systematic solutions. Its design was inspired by 19th-century wood type as well as the sign saying “DÉFENSE D'AFFICHER” (Post No Bills) that is ubiquitous in France. Loft comes in seven weights with matching italics.
