The letters in TapedUp are constructed from straight pieces of what could be masking tape. The letters have a unsophisticated or unpolished quality to them. The typeface is caps-only but many of the shapes on the lower-case keys differ from those on the upper-case keys. It was formed with a template used for several letterbat fonts and also typefaces Rumpled and Tinkerer. He acquired an unusually large amount of typefaces for his shop, a place that included a wine bar and book store. This particular face is based on the Typ.8:170G GfT101 Gesamtkatalog der Wiegendrucke. He probably died in 1529 after passing his business on to his son-in-law Melchior Lotter.

This font, as indicated by its namesake, was designed and started by the late Bob Alonso. It represents the first of his unfinished work to be completed by friend and colleague John Bomparte, following Bob's passing in December of 2007. Treppenwitz (literally: ‘Staircase Wit’) is a German word describing a conversational remark that only occurs to someone after the opportunity to make it has passed. I love words like this: they can sum up a whole sentence or a complex train of thought. Treppenwitz font is hand brushed. It’s a little uneven, a little shaky, but will look good on product packaging and book covers. Comes with loads of diacritics and double letter ligatures as well.

Once upon a time (a.ka. 1984), there was a Goth band who called themselves "Hemingway's Shotgun." As a symbol of his commitment to this band, the bass player acquired a tattoo of a shotgun on his forearm. Unfortunately, this tattoo wasn't very well drawn: the barrel was much too short, and was much thinner at one end than the other. The tattoo rather resembled a small, cordless, rechargeable hand-held vacuum cleaner. Thus, the band "Hemingway's Dustbuster" was born.

Spotted for sale online, a partial set of antique tin stencils from France had a distinctively handmade look about them. Many of the characters were inconsistently wider than others, some characters were missing and one was damaged. Despite the obvious flaws, the image of these stencils served as the model for a digital font revival once the characters took on a more uniform appearance. French Stencil Serif JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

This family was created inspired from the two sets of rough initials fonts used by the famous William Caxton in Westminster (GB) in the late 1400’s. As it was normal for the time, there were not any differences between I and J, U and V. It is not a mistake. We have reconstructed the few other missing characters.
