It took me 12 years to bring this extensive font family to completion. A lot has been changed, transformed, peeled and developed in all those years. For many of my projects I used it as my quarry and so it might have become something like a synthesis of all my imaginations and experiences. Roughmarker font consists of two handwritten scripts, a slant (regular) version and upright. This Script fonts are manually handwritten with quick and rough strokes. We write them on paper until we find a very proportioned form. Then we scanned and took the selected glyphs to be processed into a font. The biggest challenge in making textures fonts are the very many node points, many node points make the font processing performance a bit slow. At first we tried raising the node parameters to 2000-4000 points in one glyph. This is a big number, but if this number is lowered it will eliminate the impression of brush and natural look. We repeatedly look for gaps to minimize points so that the font capacity is not too large and comfortable when typed. This script font is equipped with ligature as well as several alternate according to handwriting habits, very effective in the sense of not too much but often used. This font is the great choice for contemporary brands, especially for businesses in fashion, urban style, websites, trends in architecture, cosmetics, and energetic lifestyle themes. An attractive typographic layout makes it also looks more premium in writing quotes.

Layal is an Arabetic type design with a calligraphic flavor. It follows the guidelines of the Mutamathil Taqlidi type style with one glyph for every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter, as defined in Unicode Standards version 5.1, and one additional, final-position, glyph for each Arabic letter that is normally connected with other letters from both sides in traditional cursive Arabic strings. Layal employs variable x-height values. It includes all required Lam-Alif ligatures and uses ligature substitutions and selected marks positioning but it does not use any other glyph substitutions or forming. Text strings composed using types of this family are non-cursive with stand-alone isolated glyphs. Tatweel (or Kashida) glyph is a zero width space. Keying it before any glyph will display that glyph isolated form. Keying Tatweel before Alif Lam Lam Ha will display the Allah ligature. The sans serif linear antiqua Maxima which was created in the beginning of the sixties by Prof. Gert Wunderlich for Typoart Dresden, was newly actualized in 2007 after more than 45 years. Many hands and heads were involved in the successful re-design of Maxima Now over a period of two years to assist the designers of the Elsner+Flake Design Studios in Hamburg, and the typeface family is now available. The re-design happened in close cooperation with Wunderlich who has given support to numerous projects in Elsner+Flake’s studio in Hamburg. A great deal of care was given to the necessary preliminary tasks such as the viewing of the original designs and print tests, the analysis of the digital Typoart data which had been in the possession of Elsner+Flake since 1985 and 1989, and a design conceptualization based on detail correlations, as well as the extension of the character complement. It had been Elsner+Flake’s goal to include as many of the existing Maxima cuts into the re-design program as possible. The result is an extended font family with 25 weights in EuropaPlus layout.

Built in the early 1960s, it advanced over the years and changing social developments to a trademark building of the capital. The lettering display on the roof was created by the graphic artist Klaus Wittkugel (October 17, 1910 – September 19, 1985). He had been Professor at the School for Applied Arts in Berlin, and, in addition to the creation of many posters, book covers and postage stamps, he was responsible for the signage of the Kino International as well as for the complete graphic treatment for the Palace of the Republik. The signage for the Café Moskau with the words »RESTAURANT«, »CAFÉ«, »KONZERT« and »MOCKBA« set in capital letters, becomes the basis for the Moskau Grotesk which was developed by Björn Gogalla in 2013. This face should not be seen as an imitation. A few shortcomings were »fixed«. In favor of maintaining the core characteristics some unique features were, however, not relinquished. Lower case letters and the missing capital letters were designed from scratch. It is not surprising that the plain, unassuming geometrical direction of the basic character style forms a bridge to the architecture of the 1960s. Inspired by the then favored, diverse possibilities inherent in the architectural example and wall reliefs, two complimentary pattern fonts emerged.
