The Belgian native became famous in France, where he painted floral watercolors for both Marie Antoinnette and Empress Josephine. Analogia is a digital interpretation of types used in the mid-18th century in books printed at Leuven by Martin van Overbeke. It is intended primarily for use in running text. The roman is businesslike, yet with a distinct personality; it has a generous x-height and is slightly condensed, though without appearing cramped. It is complemented by a more lively italic, which retains some irregularities in the angle of slant that are characteristic of the original. Analogia provides wide support for west, central, and east European languages that use the roman alphabet. Raclette grills are an ingenious Swiss invention. This tabletop grill is used to cook raclette cheese, a unique sort of cheese produced by the happy cows of Valais. Swiss designer Michael Parson created a typeface in 2002 that speaks endearingly to his hearty homeland tradition - endearingly enough, he named it Raclette. Raclette most likely started out as a bold, condensed sans serif. But then, just as one pulls little trays off of a raclette grill, Parsons quickly removed many rectilinear bits from the edges of each letter. Text set in Raclette looks like an old brick wall, or perhaps like a raclette party for several hundred people, that ended an hour ago! Raclette is one of ten of Michael Parson's experiments in type design featured in the Take Type 5 collection from Linotype GmbH."

Sabon was designed by Jan Tschichold and released in 1967. Sabon was created in response to the specific needs of a group of German printers who wanted a typeface that would be identical in form when produced by three different metal-casting technologies. Named after Jacques Sabon, a sixteenth century typefounder whose widow married another typefounder, Konrad Berner, who is credited with issuing the first typefounder's specimen sheet. Several types on the sheet were attributed to Claude Garamond, and one of these served Tschichold as the source for Sabon roman. The italic was based on another face on Berner's sheet, cut by Robert Granjon. Tschichold's skillful adaptation of these old style faces has produced an elegant and workmanlike book face. It is still a mystery to us why Martin Wilke's 1968 Konzept design was ignored by the digital age. It certainly has the elements of attractive yet realistic handwriting, as well as a few very distinctive letters that make it very unique in its class. So here it comes digitally under another feline name from Canada Type. We named it Cougar because the top of the C gives off just that impression. Ditto the G's casual descender, and the gorgeous a and g. With casual letters like these, a handwriting font cannot get any more realistic. Cougar is ideal for handwritten notes, both long letters and friendly short sentences. It's also great for use in scrawl design, titling, or any environment where friendly and casual appearance is of importance.

Anyone old enough to remember either the radio or television version of “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet” pictures Ozzie Nelson as the easygoing father figure who never seemed to have a real job – he was always hanging around the house. In truth, the handsome young Ozzie was a bandleader in the 1930s and 1940s and ended up marrying his ‘girl singer’, Harriet Hilliard. A piece of sheet music from 1933 for “You Have Taken My Heart” was one of the songs Nelson featured with his Columbia Broadcasting System Orchestra. The title was hand lettered in what can only be described as a slightly eccentric Art Deco Sans serif. Redrawn and cleaned up to reflect more uniform stroke weights, Bandshell JNL is now available in both regular and oblique versions.

Before 1959, in pre-Castro Havana, Cuba, the preeminent nightclub was the Tropicana. During the regime of Fulgencio Batista, Cuba was resplendent with nightclubs and gambling casinos catering to [mostly] the North American tourists; which brought it the title of the Monte Carlo of the Americas. Although Cuba (and the world as a whole) has changed vastly over the decades, the hand-lettered logo of the Tropicana Night Club has survived, and has been reproduced as a complete digital font called Tropicano JNL (a slight twist to the club's name). At first the font seems to be awkward, crude and amateurish, but in taking a second look, there's a playful charm to it. The multi award-winning Seria (1996) is Martin Majoor’s second comprehensive typeface family and the successor to his popular text letter Scala. Seria explores the proportions of classical text typefaces.
