The reason that the Zulu and Ndebele patterns have been grouped together is that the true tribal areas are contiguous and the there has been much artistic cross-fertilization between the two cultures. Hollywood Revue JNL gets its design inspiration and name from a vintage movie poster for "The Hollywood Revue of 1929". The letter style shows early Art Deco influences, yet the hand lettering was done in the late 1920s toward the end of the Art Nouveau period. MGM produced this early "talkie" all-star musical with a cast that included Jack Benny, John Gilbert, Conrad Nagel, Laurel and Hardy, Buster Keaton, Joan Crawford, Norma Shearer, Polly Moran and many others. This is the motion picture where Cliff ("Ukelele Ike") Edwards introduced "Singin' in the Rain" (composed by Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown). Years later, Freed was a producer at MGM and gathered up many of the songs he and Brown wrote during the 1920s to form the musical core of the 1952 Gene Kelly-Debbie Reynolds-Donald O'Conner musical "Singin' in the Rain".

My pet peeve for many years has been with the 'rn' in small texts, especially with my smart phone. I felt that perhaps others may have the same peeve. I decided to try and fix that with Atlantica. As you can see in poster No. 4. "With the combination of 'rn' in small text it tends to appear as 'm'. Therefore it may be read as 's t e m' instead of 's t e r n'. Altalntica has an alternate 'rn'. By invoking the < Contextual-Alternate > feature. Atlantica will replace each 'rn' - or you may individually change them if you desire". Also note the deep cuts to help legibility for smaller texts. This combination apparently does not appear in many words, but when it does it can suggest a different word as in; eastern, stern, tarnish, Tornado, Turn and in some names as well.

For me it’s one typeface with different versions with deliberate and visible differences according to the propose to which each version was created. Pendleton JNL was created from some scant images found on military machinery housed at the Marine Corps Mechanized Museum at Camp Pendleton, California. The photos were provided by Brian Platzer, a volunteer at the base who specializes in equipment restoration. Having used other stencil fonts by Jeff Levine, Brian thought the design of these hand-crafted markings might make another addition to Jeff's vast library of vintage stencil alphabets.

The 1920 song “Noah’s Wife Lived a Wonderful Life (‘Cause Noah Had to Stay Home)” is another example of one of those overly-worded song titles from early 20th Century composers. What’s more important for type enthusiasts is that the title was hand lettered with a round nib pen in a slightly ragged Art Nouveau style.
