The other day I was at a market with my kids and they had this really retro kind of circus thing. The signs and posters there, were designed in a really sloppy and poor manner - but they all had a lot of naive charm! First of all, let me get one thing straight: With Janky Action, I didn’t make any attempt on making a beautiful or good looking font! Janky Action is my humble attempt to recreate a sign I saw at a flea market. The sign was obviously made by someone who didn’t give a darn about the width of strokes, height of letters, and other “rules” when making a sign. I fell in love with the naive approach on how to make a sign. In order to create some randomness, I have added 4 different versions of each lowercase letter. I hope you find this font as enjoyable as I did while making it! :)

Pantoufle is French for slipper. Not the flipflop variety (or thongs if you’re from Australia), but the one you wear indoors when it’s cold. I have some too; Spanish ones, made from recycled PET bottles. Here in Holland, we call them ‘Pantoffels’ and you don’t have to be a language expert to see the resemblance between the French and the Dutch word. That is because the French are probably more savvy when it comes to keeping your feet warm and the Dutch just borrowed the word, pronunciation and all! Pantoufle is a font I made with a big fat marker pen. My kids had used it to decorate some gifts for Sinterklaas (if you want to know what Sinterklaas is, look it up). We started to do a little research to see the trends of this type of font. Here are some of our notes; 1. Texts are usually in the form of relaxed, non-connected handwriting. 2. Originating from some turn of the century letters to a defunct blinds and shutters company in Gloversville, NY, what began as a limited reference of Capitals, lowercase, numbers and punctuation was expanded to a full typeface with an expanded language glyph set. Mystery Shot is not your every day all-caps comic font. It is handdrawn with a permanent marker, which explains the sometimes rough edges. I've made 2 versions that mixes for great results. The stroke of the outline version is designed to fall slightly off here and there, and that was done on purpuse to enhance the handmade look of the regular version. What's more is that I added 5 slightly different versions of each letter, and the font has multilingual support!

Fady Lingers is a mispronunciation of that famous Italian cookie - nevertheless, there is nothing awkward or wrong with the font! It is handmade using a thin marker, leaving an uneven edge. I did spend some time cleaning up each letter, but was carefully observant to keep the original handmade and organic look. I've added 4 slightly different versions of each lowercase letter. and they automatically changes as you type - a really great way to make your design stand out as organic and lively!
