A vintage lettering stencil manufactured by the E-Z Letter Stencil Company of Baltimore, Maryland was the model for Schoolyard Stencil JNL, available in both regular and oblique versions. Re-drawn digitally and following the actual bend of the steel rule dies used to cut the stencils, this typeface has not been cleaned up from its original design. Upon close examination, you will find straight angles and slight curves in the most unusual places. This was representative of the difficult work involved in bending steel cutting rule material and fitting it into small areas. For many years, E-Z Letter was the main competitor to the Stenso Lettering Company; the originator of the oil board stencil lettering guide complete with automatic spacing holes. Anyone over 40 will well-remember lettering their science fair posters, report covers and ring binders with these stencils.

Bayer Sans, is based on the typography of the Austrian-born artist Herbert Bayer. Bayer worked as a teacher and graphic designer at the Bauhaus, a revolutionary German art school, during the 20's. His specialty was commercial art and he had many "radical" views on typography and its interaction with society. Bayer felt that written language should be merely a graphic version of spoken language. Thus, he advocated a single alphabet without majuscules and miniscules. Bayer's designs are simple, geometric letterforms that lend themselves to lowercase form. This font, based on the typography of Bayer and his students at the Bauhaus Werkstatt (studio), was digitally modeled by Noah Rothschild. Gothiks Round Compressed is the rounded version of Gothiks Compressed. It is a 6-weight display sans-serif influenced by Texturas. This kind of morphology was chosen because it accepts condensation in a very natural way, giving to this sans-serif a very unique personality. PODIUM Sharp is Extended version of DUDU typeface designed in 2012. After many years I’ve decided to rebuild and develop this typeface by adding new masters and weights. Finally PODIUM Sharp consist of 234 styles: from ultra compressed hairline to extra expanded heavy. Main purpose of this project was idea to make hybrid between different modular and geometric woodtypes that I found in old polish specimens: Rex, Blok, Bacarat etc. Thanks to big range of different styles, PODIUM will be perfect choice for visual identities, posters and display usage. For better comfort of using PODIUM I’ve prepared new idea of styles naming based on Frutigres’s Universe and Climbing evaluation. First digit means width and the second weights of style. (So for example style 1.1 is ultra compressed hairline, 6.5 is something like regular and 9.13 is ultra expanded heavy.

Schlange is a rich typeface with rounded terminals. The family includes five sans serifs and five slab serifs in weights from ultra liight to bold. Schlange’s personality is determined by an open aperture and quite large lower case characters in comparison with the upper case set. Schlange’s personality is open and friendly, giving a text it’s used for a soft, warm appeal. Schlange will work well as a display type (think titles, short magazine call-outs, ad banners, and such), but it’s not a good choice for extensive bodies of academic text. Available in numerous weights, the typeface provides rich opportunities for mixing and matching and is great for typographic compositions. These qualities make Schlange a dream type for a packaging designer. It will feel at home in design for cosmetics or sweets, postcards, children’s books and menus.

Unpredictable cuts in a letters “a” and “s”, or a double “g” in combination with a delicate contrast, makes Alergia Grotesk a good choice for many purposes from headlines to short flowing texts. A big range of width varieties allows to versatile use and can give a nice effect while mixing extreme varieties with each other in one project. To be independent or to be dependent? The formula “one plus one is one” is here essential for this to work. The different cases, upper and lower is dependent on one another. To give us clarity they have to work together, to be like one the upper and lower cases must work together. Expedition One works best in InDesign or equivalent software. How to use it: write your text in lower case, copy the text frame and ”Paste in Place”, change your lower case text to upper case (you do that under top menu->type->change case). Change colour if you want to and maybe change the blending mode in the effects window to “multiply” makes it even more sparkling. On numbers and ampersand for example, you have to use the glyph window in InDesign to find their second half.

Shandy is a cheerful, free-spirited font that dances jauntily along an undulating baseline. »Supra Demiserif« is the demi serif addition to the Supra family. I am no fan of slab serif fonts, so I designed this one with half serifs, that makes the serifs less important. Then I found, that the italic does not look nice with slab serifs, so I did only one italic cut for the normal weight. The light and normal weights and the dominant x-height with its high ascenders make for easy reading of long copy. The heavy and x-light weights are great for elegant headlines. Supra is an OpenType family for professional typography with an extended character set of over 700 glyphs. It supports more than 40 Central- and Eastern-European as well as many Western languages. Ligatures, different figures, fractions, currency symbols and smallcaps can be found in all cuts. with each other.

Mamute is a block rockin' family with a cool letterpress look. Its upper- and lower-case slots hold glyphs with slightly different textures for a natural look. I've been working on a usable sans serif for body copy since the mid-1990s (though I certainly did not know it at the time). This one works well. It started life back in the mists of time as a scan of an old German font by Carl Fahrenwaldt. It was developed fully as a synergized serif with strong traditional roots and released as Bergsland Pro. Now it finally makes it to where I was headed all along as a sans text font. This is a well modulated humanist, sans serif font family with many OpenType features and over 600 characters: Caps, lower case, small caps, ligatures, swashes, small cap figures, old style figures, numerators, denominators, accents characters, ordinal numbers, and so on. It is designed for text use in body copy. But it also works very well for elegantly stylized display.

The 1990s was a time of creativity, experimentation and exploration into the world of digital typography by amateur and professional alike. Ray Larabie [through his Larabie Fonts] offered dozens upon dozens of wide-ranging (and often most unusual) freeware fonts. Ray was the driving force of encouragement and a behind-the-scenes “mentor” who helped Jeff Levine Fonts get underway in January of 2006. As his focus changed to high-quality commercial type with the launch of Typodermic, Inc., many of Ray’s “less than perfect” font experiments were withdrawn. He eventually turned those typefaces into a bundled zip archive released into the public domain through Creative Commons. “Webster World” resembles a fusion of Techno and Western styles. With Ray's permission, the original characters have been cleaned up and re-made as Space Traveler JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.
