Originally designed for American Type Founders, Goudy drew inspiration from the classical old style faces for Goudy Old Style. Round characters have a strong diagonal stress, ascenders are fairly long but descenders are very short. Goudy bold was introduced in 1920; this was designed by Morris Fuller Benton. This typeface has been particularly popular in America where it is extensively used in advertising, book jackets, for labels and packaging.

Robert Hunter Middleton drew the original design of Stellar for the Ludlow Typograph Company in Chicago. Work began in the late 1920s, when Middleton was asked to create a sans serif type family to compete with European imports of Futura and Kabel. Stellar was Middleton's attempt to raise the ante. Where Futura and Kabel were geometric in design and monotone in weight, Stellar was based on roman character proportions and stroke weighs were stressed. In the late 1990s, Dave Farey took on the task of reviving the Stellar design. While Ludlow cut Stellar in a full range of point sizes, the family was limited to just a roman and bold design. Farey's revival is twice as large a family. It ranges from a very light called Stellar Nova to a very bold called Zeta In between are Lyra and Epsilon.

A tessellation is a shape that can be used to completely fill the plane—simple examples are isosceles triangles, squares, and hexagons. Tessellation patterns are eye-catching and visually appealing, which is the reason that they have long been popular in a variety of decorative situations. These Tessie fonts have two family members, a solid style that must have different colors when used and an outline style. They can be used separately or they can be used in layers with the outline style on top of the solid style. For rows to align properly, leading must be the same as point size. D Sert—based on the Pirata typeface—is inspired by 70s Chilean constructivist design and the political propaganda posters artwork of La Unidad Popular (Chilean political coalition). D Sert is the result of the combination of the Chilean graphic art revival with new trends, such as the handmade movement and super font families. The super family comprises 47 weights and comes with two versions: D Sert and D Sert Alt, plus extras. Diagonal strokes are significantly different between the two versions: diagonals of the Alt version are much more logical than the diagonals of the normal version. Way back in the 1990s, the fatter the fast food generation got, the more condensed letters became. I figured when the taste in fonts started to mirror the contemporary bodily norm, Hunky Chunk should be there. Here it is.

Cut as a private version for the Nonesuch Press in the early 1930s, Monotype Bulmer was first released for general use in 1939. Based on types, cut by William Martin circa 1790, used by the Printer, William Bulmer, in a number of prestigious works, including Boydell's Shakespeare. Martins types combined beauty with functionality. Narrower and with a taller appearance than Baskerville, it anticipated the modern face of Bodoni but retained vital qualities from the old face style. This new digital version of the Bulmer font family was drawn by Monotype following extensive research into the previous hot metal versions and a study of Bulmer's printed works. Additional weights have been designed together with a wide range of Expert and alternative characters.

Think of Garamouche as Garamond's drunken cousin. This font replicates a long lost document ravaged by time and the elements (with a little sloppy printing for good measure.) Unlike the fake bolding option found in software programs, Garamouche Bold is a variant with more appropriate thick and thin features. The "dancing along the baseline" that has made Garamouche a favorite, is also a feature in Garamouche Bold, but the letters align and tilt in on their own terms. Alf R. Becker was a noted sign painter, designer and the creator of hundreds of unique alphabets which were published in the trade magazine Signs of the Times during the 1930s through the 1950s. Thanks to Tod Swormstedt of ST Media [and who is also the curator of the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati], Jeff Levine received some reference material on Becker's work. Becker displayed many of his type styles within decorative panels—a popular trend in the days when signs were hand-lettered. Using the reference material as a guide, Jeff has re-drawn twenty-six sign panels for adaptation to digital print work. While the designs in themselves are not thoroughly unique to Alf Becker, he has left behind some tangible examples of how sign painters embellished their lettering work. With the use of complementary colors and tones, these panels—joined with vintage lettering - classically recreate the warm and attractive advertising of years ago.

Altivo is a proper workhorse sans serif. Sixteen OpenType fonts in eight weights (with true Italics) range from Thin to Ultra. Meticulous care was taken to ensure high legibility in text sizes on the screen. The typeface is designed to have wide proportions, generous x-height, loose spacing, ink traps, large apertures and low stroke contrast. Altivo’s ink traps are not only a functional design feature, they also look interesting and lend character to the typeface in headlines. True Italics, small caps and multiple sets of figures, as well as a complete set of lowercase superscript were all included in the family to accommodate high typographic standards. If you need to pair it with a serif font, you can’t go wrong with Chiavettieri, since both typefaces were made with the same basic proportions, and their tabular figures are the same width.

Dixplay, a typeface based on a pixel grid, is available in two weights: regular and black. Inspired by video game aesthetics of the 80s, was originally intended for display applications, but it works fine on paper as well. The font has been conceived in 20 px size allowing more freedom to manipulate it and making a big difference with other fonts of its kind, this difference it’s more evident in Dixplay Black. As a result, it’s optimized for screen use at 20 px and its multiples. Spacing is one of the most outstanding aspects of Dixplay. While pixel fonts doesn't have kerning pairs, Dixplay offers more than 300 manually done that fit perfectly to the grid.
