A June 18, 1929 issue of the Hollywood trade paper “The Film Daily” ran an ad for a film called “The Power House”. The film’s title was hand lettered in an extra bold sans serif design with strong Art Deco influences. This is now available digitally as Deco Power JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Silent Echo - the name just popped up! I didn’t hear and echo, nor is it very silent here (with three kids running around). Silent Echo is a handmade all caps font. Quite neat, very legible and full of swashes!

A vintage lettering stencil manufactured by the E-Z Letter Stencil Company of Baltimore, Maryland was the model for Schoolyard Stencil JNL, available in both regular and oblique versions. Re-drawn digitally and following the actual bend of the steel rule dies used to cut the stencils, this typeface has not been cleaned up from its original design. Upon close examination, you will find straight angles and slight curves in the most unusual places. This was representative of the difficult work involved in bending steel cutting rule material and fitting it into small areas. For many years, E-Z Letter was the main competitor to the Stenso Lettering Company; the originator of the oil board stencil lettering guide complete with automatic spacing holes. Anyone over 40 will well-remember lettering their science fair posters, report covers and ring binders with these stencils.

1977 was a good year for soccer. Attendance for the North American Soccer League (NASL) grew 33%, to 13,000 per game. Brazillian soccer legend Pelé played his final match, kicking for both the New York Cosmos and Santos of Brazil. And a soccerboy named Charlie was crowned with the nickname Chanky. In honor of his soccer hero Pelé, Charlie insisted the neighbor kids call him Chelé. They laughed at him and called him Chanky after Spanky from the Little Rascals. As he grew into his manhood, he became Chank the internationally renowned font designer. Chank created this font Soccerboy, as filtered through the artistic eyes of his 1977 childhood. It's a tri-line font, hand-drawn in Chank's signature cartoon whimsy. Soccerboy encourages play with color and alternate characters. New Orleans, June 25, 1895 My dear Edmond, I found upon my return home to dinner yesterday, your letter informing me of your affection for Annie and asking that we confide her future happiness to your keeping... This excerpt was taken from a letter written by designer Kathryn Podorsky’s great-great-grandfather, Lucien Doize, in response to Edmond’s request to marry his daughter, Annie. The letter was not only beautiful contextually, but exquisitely penned and epitomized the delightful charm of the New Orleans people of the time. Vena Amoris, or “Vein of Love” refers to a phrase coined by Henry Swinburne in his A Treatise of Espousal published in 1686. Vena Amoris also refers to the fourth finger on the left hand which was traditionally believed to contain a vein running directly to the heart, hence “the ring finger.” As a digital font, Vena Amoris boasts an extensive Latin-based character set that supports 51 languages. Also included are stylistic and contextual alternates, ligatures, swash variants, oldstyle figures, and roman numerals and calligraphic words that will undoubtedly bring a dynamic quality to any setting. Dvarlin Staves is a collection of 512 rune glyph's divided into six font family's. As well as a Italic and a Slant style for the purpose of adjusting letters on a curved line. This design was inspired by a laser printout of a corrupt font. I designed the entire character set from a strain of seven infected letters. Virus is surprisingly legible in spite of its distortions so let your imagination run loose with this one.

Rudolf typeface was designed on the basis of medals made by author's grandfather, the sculptor Rudolf Rogatty. He used lettering that was very typical of monuments, medals and commemorative plaques during communist times in Poland, which can still be seen today in any Polish city. These letters are beautiful for their imperfection and they have very strictly defined rules governing their structure.

Royal Street is a sleek, condensed sans family of six typefaces, from ExtraLight to ExtraBold, designed and built to be big and brash. The Srostky font is willful and stubborn. It is rude, but it is as natural as a country boy. The characters of this font were inspired by an image of the Russian countryside. The letters look as if they were felled with an ax. It is named after the village in Altai region. This font is suitable for short sayings and titles.

Amundsen is an all-caps stencil-like face with a unique look due to several originally shaped glyphs and overlapping letters. The font is equipped with automatic discretionary ligatures and it comes with a fine-tuned kerning. As the ligatures combine light letters, the overall look remains balanced even with wider display oriented spacing. Amundsen supports West as well as Central European languages.

Valkyrie was designed following the idea to have realy strong letters taking a lot of room. This results in a heavy appearance and gives Valkyrie its special look. It is possible to give it an even more uniform look by using the alternate characters. What can a strong font be used for? Valkyrie hopes to break rules. Use its power.

Mother Hen is an offbeat comic latin typestyle full of quirkiness and bounce. Inspired by the 1965 Looney Tunes cartoon titled “Highway Runnery”, this typeface has all of the spunk of its source. The end result, a lively tribute to its origin, easy to read and fun to look at, a perfect typeface for childrens' books, advertisements, and playful designs!

Based loosely on Clarendon, Turpentine Kisses breaks all the rules of the classic serif fonts. It's jumpy and bouncy with a clear handmade look. It's playful yet legible, and full of personality. Pardon me boy, is that the Chattanooga Choo-choo? Well, not quite, but "Pardon Me Boy!" is a set of silhouette based ornaments capturing railway locomotives and rolling stock from around the world. Use it to form up trains to make suitable themed rules and borders, or just for fun anywhere a bit of locomotive power will add life and movement!

'HU Retroround' is a font that captures the feel of the retro typefaces used on signboards during Korea's modernization era. This font has a variable function, allowing users to fine-tune the thickness they want. (Available only in Adobe programs.) Six basic weights are provided so that they can be used even in programs that do not apply the variable function.

Designed by Jure Stojan, JY Saj is a typeface family that successfully balances the artistic and the conventional.
