BMX Radical is inspired by the titles of the cult 1980s BMX movie "Rad". The characters R, A and D were designed after this, with the rest of the character set being completely made up. The font is uppercase only, but with two different alphabets. The inspiration source for Verre Monogram is an unusual hand-drawn letterset from a vintage embroidery publication which comes off more as a Drop Cap or Initial lettering style than monogram. Although its original intention is uncertain, it has many possibilities. This monogram design from the early 1900’s has been updated from a Capitals only to a Caps/Smallcaps set with decorative linking ornamentation. Günther Zainer, (or Zeyner or Zeiner), was the first printer to operate in the city of Augsburg. He was active from 1468 to his death in 1478. In that single decade he was responsible for printing 80 works. Most of these editions were for the clergy but he also printed the first Calendar and large-scale illustrated book intended for the wider public. This font is based on one of his more interesting and peculiar fonts. And it has been enlarged to include over a 1,000 defined glyphs for modern use and also for historical purposes many glyphs recommended by the Medieval Unicode Font Initiative organization have also been included.

Blacketor came about from hand lettering I had done for my own personal use several years ago. It remained unfinished until now. I was going for a more traditional serif font but in the process of play various versions came about while playing with the serifs, in an attempt to be slightly different. Many versions fell to the wayside as I learned more about what didn’t work than what did. What came about was a clean font with large open counters and short ascenders for an easy read. All caps works well for a bold but not shouty statement. A good font for Headlines and callouts as well as logotypes.

This font takes its name and the overall shape from modern bentwood furniture, namely Scandinavian designs since the 1940s. The curved corners of the letterforms are practically hyperbolic, to convey the tension and strength of the bent plywood. These curves are meant to appear more dynamic than circular or elliptical segments of traditional sans serif fonts. The letterforms are simplified, without extra corners, stems, connections or hooks, yet remain legible at any size. Now at version 2, Bentwood contains Central/Eastern European, Baltic and Turkish character sets and more ligatures with Open Type functionality. One of my favorites. Rundgotisch is a easy to read for eyes that are accustomed to roman letterforms, yet keeps in touch with its blackletter roots. It was released around 1900 by Schelter & Giesecke of Leipzig, Germany. Can be used to set short text passages and pairs easily with many different decorative initials of the period. A very useful typeface. Don't leave home without it. According to Bringhurst, Schelter & Giesecke was formed in 1819 by Johann Gottfied Schelter and Christian Friedrich Giesecke. This old German printing house was sucked up by state-owned Typoart in 1946, after Marshall Zhukov and the Red Army had established Soviet dominion over East Germany.
