ITC Tabula is meant to be read. The design grew out of a study to create a font to set film subtitles. According to Julien Janiszewski, the face's Paris-based designer, “I set parameters for the design whereby the letters had to be able to hold up at very small sizes when set on film and yet must be able to be enlarged 2000 times to be read on a theatre screen.” The subtitle font was not completed, but several months later Janiszewski revisited the design and made a discovery. “I realized that the constraints I had established for the subtitling font was not that far from those people could have in creating typographic signage. Many time this calls for a font that can be used easily in very large sizes for headlines on highway billboards and quite small for text copy.” Work proceeded for two more years before Janiszewski was satisfied with the results. The final design is a somewhat squared sans serif family of four weighs with corresponding italics. Janiszewski also wanted to create what he calls a “sensitive sans-one that is not restricted to geometric shapes but has a subtle calligraphic, foundation.” ITC Tabula is not only easy to read, it is also a distinctive and handsome design.

Emy Slab is a slab serif based on the classical proportions of Egyptian typefaces but with soft terminals that give the font a more friendly and modern look. Emy Slab consists of two subfamilies of 7 weights, ranging from Thin to Black with matching italics, resulting in a total of 28 fonts. Scala Jewels is a set of four highly decorative typefaces, based on the bold capitals of Scala. Whereas Crystal and Pearl are modelled on historic examples, Diamond and Saphyr are original designs. Scala Jewels offers the possibility to set decorated borders, designed in the style of each of the four variations. There are corners and different sorts of long and short elements. One of the best ways to use Scala Jewels is as a two- or three-line drop cap at the start of a chapter. The award-winning Scala family (1990-1993) is a worldwide bestseller and has established itself as a ‘classic’ among digital fonts.

Evergreen is Koziupa and Paul going all Zeitgeist after a few Malbec drinks. Two fonts praise nature from when the lights go out to the crack of dawn, and vice versa. That's 24/7/365 of wild leafy Kumbaya. Even butterflies and flowers were mystified so much they had to get in there. Evergreen is local, organic, and certified free trade. At some point we wrote down the name of the jungle where it originated, then lost the parchment in the hot springs a few hours later. But that's immaterial. Crank up your Deep Forest sound, prep your Earthtone and Foliage palettes, and get into the big herbal.

Taylor Hand is an elegant signature font. Drawn by hand and created to be a typeface for chic and modern work in a classy setting. Use { } [ ] < > anywhere in a word where you want a swash. Example: Tay[lor The font comes in two styles, Upright and Italic, and also includes a Swash style for decorative additions to your lettering. The last couple of years felt like I was living in a bad dream: I witnessed crazy leaders, climate change and now Covid. I usually name my fonts after things that affect me and this one is not different. Dreamworld is a font I made with a cheap marker pen I liberated from my kids’ pencil box (I will put it back, pinky promise…). It is a bit rough, but also very easy to read and distinctive enough to make your work stand out. Of course it comes with extensive language support (let me mention Vietnamese again…) and two sets of alternate glyphs, that cycle as you type.

Historism Border 2D is a collection of ornaments organized into four font files. The ornaments can be divided into two groups: Friezes (borders) and Rapports (patterns). All the ornaments attribute to the period of Historicism, which prevailed in art in the middle of the 19th century. The ornaments are based on elements of architectural decorations of Lviv buildings in Ukraine. The author personally collected the material and embodied it in the font. This makes the font exclusive and unique among other digital collections of ornaments. These patterns are perfectly suited to be used in the design of invitations, diplomas, certificates or other printed materials in classic-style design.

To design Mr Black, we used old ('70-'80) dry transfer lettering sheets that were used by my grandfather who was a military cartographer. We had only two almost used-up sheets. The letters didn't transfer so well but we liked the way they were damaged. All of the characters have a very high resolution so they can be used in a large scale. Mr Black doesn't have lowercases but has up to three alternate uppercase for each letter. Checkout Mr Tiger if your looking for lowercase letters with the same distortion effect. Gwen is a variable type system in 7 weights. The complete font family consists of two subfamilies: the highly characteristic Display Serif family which shows its full potential and beauty in big sizes and a more subtle Text variation appropriate for smaller sizes. The variable font combines the best of both worlds and provides unique flexibility to switch between all of the font weights and the text and display style at the same time. The font supports Extended Latin and Cyrillic scripts and its main purpose is to be used in editorials, although it may find good implications in headlines, impactful landing pages, posters, and packaging.

We use an old hand juicer at home: a cheap plastic one that we bought a long time ago at a Swedish home appliances and furniture giant. We haven never considered upgrading to an electronic one, as it still works, it doesn’t use electricity and we don’t really use it that often. This font is called Juicer. It was not named after our manual juicer, or any juicer in particular. It was just a word that seemed to fit the font nicely. Juicer font is a handwritten, script-ish kinda font that comes in two great styles and contains a set of double letter ligatures.

Kudryashev Display is a set of light and high-contrast faces based on Kudryashev text typeface . In addition to Kudryashev Display and Kudryashev Headline faces, the type family includes also two sans-serif faces of the same weight and contrast, with some alternates. The graceful nature of the typeface, along with carefully designed details, allows to use it in large point sizes, for example in magazine layouts, packaging design and in many other ways. The serif styles were designed by Olga Umpeleva in 2011, the sans styles were created by Isabella Chaeva in 2015 with the participation of Alexandra Korolkova. The typeface was released by ParaType in 2015.

Marit Otto about Picastro: The revolutionary typeface. Picastro is a fusion of Picasso and Castro. Don’t be alarmed by the second name! It is no political statement. Both characters represent different qualities in the typeface. The Picasso influence is the artistic, freestyle and frolic part. The Castro influence is the firm, square, perseverant look with a hint of propaganda to it. To combine two opposite inspirational sources (innovative versus persistent) makes the shape a bit edged. This typeface is very suitable for all kinds of graphic design (flyer, posters, CD covers and artworks) but also casual enough for (non academic) letter and text writing.

Bold as love, Grok is a hand-drawn typeface, assertive but soft. Showy and friendly. It's an all caps font with 2 choices for each letter, accessible via keyboard upper and lower case slots. For that handcrafted look, you know. Turn on the contextual alternates feature to automatically alternate these. Grok originally comes in two cuts: bold and… less-bold :) Later the outline style was added as a gift, a free font. And finally, there's yet a nifty picture font with dozens of dingbats to beautify your words every now and then. Perfectly suited for display uses: packaging, signage, web titlings, editorial design, book covers – and not-only-covers. Grok it?

This typeface family is developed with the designer in mind. WBP Nel is a narrow sans serif with lots of options. Perfect in its imperfection, Psychedelic Xylophones is a retro trippy hippie font that brings a hand-lettered groove to your text graphics. A flower became crushed in the door frame of the studio (a fancy shed at the end of an overgrown garden)... pretty pale yellow stamens scattered on the floor... I sprinkled some on the scanner and arranged them into a light and airy font for springtime. There are two alphabets, both uppercase, but one with doubled uprights for variety, and to provide a hint of extra weight. I didn't want to distort the natural shapes, or make up any of my own, so some letterforms are pretty quirky, and some characters just weren't possible... but there's a hidden bunch of flowery and grassy ornaments.

Once I set on the concept for this ‘Origami’ inspired font, I used an imaginary strip of folded paper as the basis for each character, the folded effect being realized fully by incorporating an incised line. Of course the folded paper aspect is just a two dimensional illusion but subconsciously, will automatically be interpreted three dimensionally. There are numerous options for creating alternative characters following this logic, as the centuries-old Origami tradition itself illustrates quite clearly, but I wanted to maintain an ordered sense of style and balance throughout the full character set, so avoided any unnecessary flourishes, staying true to the Japanese ethos and spirit.

Serial: a killer font takes influence from the Son of Sam letters. Depicting an unstable mind and ill motives, this font is as erratic and discomforting as its author. This font was created with inspiration from the wood blocks carved for chapbooks, posters, calendars or newspaper in the late 1500’s and early 1600’s. It has been conceived as an homage to the “Pilgrim fathers” landing in Plymouth Bay in 1620 and celebrating the first Thanksgiving with Native Indians in autumn, 1621. Work on Scene began some time after designer Sebastian Lester joined Monotype Imaging in 2000. Clean, calm, and highly legible — thus the design brief Lester set for himself. With Scene, he wanted to provide graphic designers and creative directors with a suite of fonts that would serve as a strong foundation for identity projects, incorporating what he had learned about on-screen and print legibility. Scene was developed during two years of after-hours and weekend work. The family comes in six weights with matching italics, there is a set of “semi-sans” characters to introduce more expressive word rhythms into headlines and blocks of copy.

Nauman Neue is a modern humanist sans serif typeface made for the screen. Broad open letter forms are combined with precise geometry to create a functional and legible font that’s ideal for web and on-screen applications. In 2021 Nauman was expanded to sixty styles, including two helpful widths condensed and semi-condensed. Included in the font are 900 characters per style, ten weights and three widths with matching italics. Opentype features consist of seven numerals variations, including inferiors, superiors, fractions, tabular, lining, and old style. It also has alternate lowercase a, e, I, M, small caps, arrows and language support covering Western, South, Central Europe and Vietnamese.

I started to work at the Bernhard Studio in 1952 to 1959 in New York. I helped with some type designs and many other projects, this two tiered signature was added on all of Bernhard’s art that was produced in the past and in his later years. In the 50’s I thought Bernhard’s Gothic face was quite a bit outdated but as you may know it has become one of todays most used faces. His signature is based on his Bernhard Gothic Font. With todays computer technology I have digitized the caps and added lower case glyphs with lower ascenders and other slight changes.
