The lower case letterforms and numerals were then created in sympathy, taking their proportions from the incised letters of local gravestones. Its name honours not only the area where the original alphabet was conceived and drawn, but also the people responsible for fostering my initial interest in letters. Vallassina is named after Vallassina, a village in the valley of the upper tract of the river Lambro in northern Italy. The most important settlement in the area is the town of Asso, from which the valley takes its name. Spasell is a slang of Insubric language, spoken until 19th century by inhabitants of Vallassina, when they used to go out from the valley for business and they didn't want to be understood by the people. What makes this valley unique is that the locals use a unique whistle language to communicate to each other. Vallasina is confidently irreverent yet curiously attractive. Royalbrick is a contemporary display unicase typeface. It is a part of upcoming type family — light and condensed style. The font was inspired by factory stamps’ typography on bricks made in 19-20 century on Russian manufactures — this kind of bricks was also called “royal bricks”. It has a unique image with “squashed” stems and dynamic expanding strokes, and there are also some kind of ancient Cyrillic’s vibes in it’s letterforms. It is an excellent example of combining national character with modern trends and expressive graphics. Back to 1880-1900 when a number of events were coming together, the country was evolving from a local market economy to mass merchandising, rail systems were being built and color lithography was becoming more affordable. The first rail cars full of oranges were being shipped from Southern California to the East - what a treat during a cold winter’s day. Labels were pasted on every fruit crate and these labels had large images of oranges and orange groves. With technological advances in soldered cans, canneries popped up all over the country. In order to market their products many California Canneries pooled their resources to form the California Fruit Canners Assn. in 1899. This font was inspired from that era. Loaded with alternates, swashes, stylistic and multilingual support.

Inscriptions dedicating offerings to Reitia are one of the chief sources of knowledge of the Venetic language

ITC Vino Bianco was created by German designer Jochen Schuss. He drew his inspiration from the handwriting of the waiter in his favorite local pub, especially the form of the capital Q. Based on this one character Schuss developed the entire alphabet. The figures are sketchy and generous and look as though they were written on paper with a ball point pen. Vino Bianco is an alphabet of capital letters, each of which also has an alternative form, making it very flexible and true to the tendency of true handwriting. In spite of its fine strokes, the overall look is open and light due to the large amount of space each character occupies. The Killegar family is inspired by one of the great houses of Ireland...Killegar—which is on the grand Estate of Killegar. I lived there for many years. It is a quiet and peaceful place surrounded by lakes and trees and is inspirational in so many ways. All of my creative talents were boosted by this amazing two hundred year old building with all of it's secrets and heritage. Time stood still in Killegar....except for me and my modern day computers, cell phones and fax machines. This twist of fate, with me living both a rural and hi-tech life, living in an environment of the early 18th century, with the friendliest local people on the Earth, played it's part in the origin of the Killegar family of fonts. Kobely is a reproduction of a local broadcaster's real handwriting. My daughter thought her boss's handwriting was so neat and uniform, it would make a great font and asked if I would be willing to create it. I agreed. She had him write out all the basic characters, which he gladly did with both a standard ink pen and a Sharpie¨ marker. I then turned it into a three weight family, perfect for use on post-it notes, shopping and to-do lists - anywhere you need the natural feel of real handwriting. I created it in various weights to spare you from adding a stroke to make it bolder. Adding a stroke can often compromise the small details of a font. Kobely is designed to be readable in even the boldest weight!

Italian poet and author, Francesco Pastonchi was commissioned to produce a new edition of the Italian Classics but was unable to find types which satisfied his needs. He decided to embark on designing a new typeface, assisted by Professor Eduardo Cotti at the Royal School of Typography in Torino. Early printed works, manuscripts and inscriptions were carefully studied before drawings were presented to Monotype for matrix production. A process of careful refinement of the design was carried out in the Monotype Type Drawing Office before the typeface was ready for manufacture. Pastonchi is a Venetian style face with a fresh, almost exotic appearance, ideally suited to classical works such as poetry and short stories. The Pastonchi font family has beautiful character shapes that also make excellent display and advertising copy.

Franko Luin, Odense's designer, on this typeface: With Odense I entered the field where Optima reigns in royal majesty. The first question I received was, in fact, why I designed another Optima. Look closely: Odense has as much in common with Optima as Garamond with Baskerville. Am I right? Odense Neon is a special variant that can be used for logos or single words. I had the idea for it when I noticed that the neon tubes in a sign over a store only partially followed the characters. The name comes from the Danish town Odense, the town of the famous storyteller Hans Christian Andersen, author of, e.g., 'The Little Mermaid.' Odense is also the place where the first book in the Nordic countries was printed, the 'Breviarium Ottoniense', in 1482.

Inspired by the diverse and dynamic neighborhoods around their studio, kapitza’s most recent work is about observing and recording the transient nature of inner-city populations. This visual research results in vibrant sets of silhouettes with site-specific names like ‘Liverpool Street’, ‘Victoria Park’ and ‘Brick Lane’. This ongoing project charts the visual component of local transformation, managing to reflect something that is deeper, invisible and beyond the surface. These fresh, creative typologies make sense of sensory overload. Though stark and simple, these silhouettes make the increasingly complex connections between people (s) and place(s). Somehow identities are represented in the absence of context and locations are curiously referenced without surroundings. By focusing on an area’s inhabitants, their work highlights distinct subtleties regarding the interplay time and place.

Harri Text is more than an extension of Harri. It shares its origin, a certain flavour and a great deal of its idiosyncrasies, but while Harri is an uppercase-only typeface intended for display uses, Harri Text is conceived as a text type family, including a new extra-light weight, italics, small caps and other additions that make it suitable for editorial purposes. As its predecessor Harri Text addresses several concerns regarding the dualism neutrality vs. idiosyncrasy, or in other words, how local features meet global design in the context of a modern society (as is the case in the Basque Country in recent times). The origin of Harri Text —vernacular Basque lettering for the most part— is full of idiosyncrasies and peculiarities that, while giving them its special character, may hinder readability in some cases. The default set in Harri Text tones its essence down a little bit. It is still present, although less obstrusive. Stylistic sets 1, 2 and 3 are a chance to recover gradually this essence modifying some characters —specially the characteristic design of letter A– for those who seek a more local flavour. Stylistic set 4, on the other hand, does the opposite job, this is, removes asymmetrical serifs and other small details in order to create a more neutral atmosphere. Any traces to its origin are this way diluted resulting in a crisp and clean incise variant. Stylistic set 6 is available in the italic styles. It provides a more fluid and cursive flavour to some letters in case a calligraphic mood is desired. Harri Text comes with 1054 glyphs in its character set (1078 in the italics) with support for more than 220 languages.

Jemgonza is a Sans-serif font started on January 26, 2022. This font with hyper-extended character sets allow for usage for billboard signs, logos, and even professional documents and essays. It contains localized forms for certain languages that write them differently. For example: Л and л shaped like upside-down V's, д shaped like a lowercase g, и shaped like a lowercase u, and more for Bulgarian; б shaped like the Greek lowercase letter delta for Macedonian and Serbian. Dubrove has several stylistic sets, historical forms, localized forms of several languages, interest contextual ligatures and many other delicacies. In the Dubrove typeface several stylistic sets of Slavonic lowercase letters are made. In addition to font basic style (in fact it is close to the natural lowercase character) is a traditional [ss02] set (postpreliminary, the Soviet Union, when most copy lowercase letters are uppercase) and lowercase the natural character [ss03], the style of which, in particular, is often used in the Bulgarian script.

Patzcuaro is a summer resort by a lake of the same name. It is situated 370 km west of Ciudad de Mexico and a visitor from Europe, on seeing it, will be reminded of the Austrian Rust or the South Bohemian Trebon. The town's colonial architecture is protected as a historical monument, the reddish-brown tint of the footings of the buildings, their white facades and even the type of lettering with red initials is prescribed - and these regulations are also complied with as far as cars are concerned. This colour scheme is splendid in combination with the rich gamut of greys of the stone window jambs, vaults, lintels and pillars. Joking apart, even the local petrol station is 16th-century in appearance. Patzcuaro Regular is a cosy, welcoming type face which is good for use on labels.

Xunga is a cheerful display typeface. My goal was to design a font able to fit any layout with boldness and playfulness, mixing a sign painter taste in the uppercase and some of my crappy calligraphic reverse contrast explorations with the flat brush for the lowercase. I designed several of widths to fit the page, and though about a different way of expanding the family shifting the horizontal stress axis to move the letter weight in different heights, making a 15 fonts family, suitable for making bold layouts. Xunga has an extended character set for European languages as well as Vietnamese, and shows all its potential with OpenType-savvy applications. Every font includes ligatures, catchwords in discretional ligatures, contextual alternates to avoid conflictive glyph pairs and localized forms to avoid problems with several glyphs and languages.
