In 1995, David Berlow cut Moderno FB for Esquire Gentleman and Reforma from a TrueType pole of Giza. In 1996 he cut new styles with Richard Lipton for El Norte. In 1997, Roger Black ordered new weights for Tages Anzeiger. A redesign of the Baltimore Sun, with Ionic FB as text, required further growth. Diorite is modern face built on classical letterforms -- but left with a bit of residual roughness. Some might call Diorite forthright, others brutal. (It reminded the designer of the dark, hard igneous rock of the same name, treasured by the ancient Egyptians for statuary.) The typeface has a relatively chunky, four-style family; the italics are true cancellaresca corsiva, also writ heavy. "The cancellaresca is of course a Gothic design," notes the designer. "Just use a broader pen, and you'll see!" Has four styles: regular, bold, cursive, and cursive bold.

Viva Maria could have been used for that famous, hilarious movie by Louis Malle staring Brigitte Bardot and Jeanne Moreau. Maybe in a remake someone will use this very lively script in the credits and advertising material. Olé!

Cocosignum takes inspiration from the typography of the italian thirties. The imperial uppercase with its propaganda deco overtones is softened by a cursive lowercase geometric script in the Corsivo Italico version. It comes in two styles and five weights, covering over forty languages using latin alphabet, as well as Greek and Cyrillic.

This is Solotype's alternative sans serif version of the once popular caps-only font Atlanta issued by the Central Type Foundry in St. Louis in 1885. As we often do, we have created a lowercase, adding to its versatility.

Central Type Foundry of St. Louis issued this quirky little gem under the name of Quaint Roman around the turn of the twentieth century. This version is a little less gnarly than the original, but retains all of its eccentric charm.

The Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum staff is honored to partner with New York-based graphic designer Louise Fili on her first font release project. The new font, “Mardell,” is named for Hamilton retiree and wood type cutter Mardell Doubek. This is the fourth font to be cut for the museum as part of the Wood Type Legacy Project. "The bold, lively angularity of Italian futurist letterforms made it a natural choice for wood type.” says Fili. This digital version presents Fili’s wood type design for use in web and print applications.

This roly-poly, rollicking display font is based on a design from the 1946 book Blue print text book of sign and show card lettering by Charles Louis Henry Wagner, who seems to have had an aversion to combination words (like blueprint, textbook and showcard).

Variations on a theme by Nicholas J. Werner for St. Louis' Inland Type Foundry provided the pattern for this happy family, released in 1895 and 1899. Both flavors of this font feature the 1252 Latin, 1250 Central European, 1254 Turkish and 1257 Baltic character sets.
