Tangram is the famous Chinese puzzle, perhaps one of the oldest games in the world. It consists of seven pieces called Tans obtained from a square cut up in a certain way. These seven Tans (5 different-sized triangles, a square and a parallelogram) have to be used to form the figures. The Tangram collection represents 1772 different shapes spread in 15 fonts. Each font exists in 2 styles: plain & inline.

ITC Riptide is a work of British designer Timothy Donaldson. Abrupt changes in stroke, pointed stroke ends and changing slant direction characterize this very experimental alphabet. The temperamental figures are irrepressible and aggressive, the forms seem to have been chosen randomly, and these traits lend the font its informality and spontaneity. ITC Riptide is legible in point sizes of 14 and its fresh character is perfect for comics and cartoons.

I just love biscotti; they’re one of my favourite cookies! I thought they were all rock hard and half-moon shaped, but I found out that there’s a ‘soft’ variety as well, mainly aimed at young children who may have trouble munching on the hard cookies. Soft Biscotti is a handmade, all caps font. It comes with extensive language support and a set of alternates for the lower case letters.

Macbeth is a heavy, condensed Art Deco-style typeface from Linotype. Macbeth should be used for music-oriented applications, or anything that is both reminiscent of the early 20th Century and a bit spooky. The letters in Macbeth are quite similar to display style found on Frankenstein posters, and those of other early films.

Tombouctou is the French name for Timbuktu, a city in central Mali. I have been to Timbuktu several times; usually arriving after a three day boat trip up the Niger river. Timbuktu is a smallish city, literally in the middle of nowhere, with a treasure trove of UNESCO listed sights. Tombouctou font is a handmade brush font. It is nice and elegant and will give your designs an ‘oriental’ touch.

I have no particular love for pigeons, but I read an interesting article about war pigeons being used to send messages to an fro. One pigeon (called William of Orange) even saved more than 2000 soldiers during the Battle of Arnhem. Pigeon Post is a lovely cartoon and kids font. It comes in a sans and a serif style, so there’s really no excuse for not using it!

Pendleton JNL was created from some scant images found on military machinery housed at the Marine Corps Mechanized Museum at Camp Pendleton, California. The photos were provided by Brian Platzer, a volunteer at the base who specializes in equipment restoration. Having used other stencil fonts by Jeff Levine, Brian thought the design of these hand-crafted markings might make another addition to Jeff's vast library of vintage stencil alphabets.

Prof. G. Pott’s Ruling Script first appeared in 1992 with Linotype-Hell. The font is a part of the package Calligraphie for Print, which also contains Sho and Wiesbaden Swing. The typeface was designed after seeing a photocopy of some News Gothic text where the ink had faded on the bottom of each character. As character recognition is generally based on the top half of a character, readability was never compromised. Rather like Antique Olive the characters have a top heavy look when viewed straight on, however, as most type is read at an angle with the top further away than the bottom this top heavy look is diminished.

Louis is a faithful digital rendition and expansion of a design called Fanfare, originally drawn by Louis Oppenheim in 1927. Redrawn digitally by Rod MacDonald, and engineered in-house by Canada Type, Louis includes the many alternates that came with the original design, and then some. It was also expanded into three variations, including a soft-cornered style, and a rough woodcut one. And of course, the codepage support covers the majority of Latin-based languages.
