A personal handwriting done in pencil. Conté Script is a computer font but has the extraordinary look of handwriting. The typeface is exceedingly lively, diversified and distinct thanks to more than 300 different ligatures, i.e. letter combinations. In addition to the letter combinations in Conté Script, there are also double letters and figures included (aa, ff, AA, MM, 22, 66…) as ligatures with stylistic alternates. Type set in Conté Script appears remarkably similar to a text actually handwritten with a pencil. The typical style of the pencil — crumbliness where pressure lessens and the deep darkness where the pressure of the graphite in it's fullest denseness smudges — is another earmark of Conté Script. It was originally inspired by my winter scarf knitting exploits. I discovered that making wool scarves was generating beautiful patterns and I wanted them to become a source of inspiration for a style. I made a few collages, and they became letters. Other characters came up with ease. It is readable, but long essays are not its main purpose. It is decorative and will look casual and very attractive on any ad as a title or a short phrase. It also demonstrates very good performance in automatic 3D generators, like Xara 3D maker, used in making examples of how this font can be utilised. It was designed to be thin, soft, with the capacity to cover empty space and to create a vibrant environment. Small characters are different from capital letters, they are stylistic alternates. Some letters are slightly ominous or dynamic, others create a soothing feeling. Using several colors make it shine, but it is complex, it looks good in monochromatic compositions as well.

I made the first sketches for Brocha when I first visited Easter Island in 2011. I took inspiration from pre-Columbian art for such sketches, but I must say that they were kind of rough and clumsy; it was an experimental and limited-use typeface. It took a long time, but thanks to my learning about type design gained over the years, I have finally been able to complete my project. I have made sure to preserve the Latin American spirit of my original designs in order to give my final typeface an expressively handmade, highly humanist look. Brocha is a display sans with friendly design ideal for high-impact headlines, logotypes or use on cookies packaging designs. Brocha consists of 2 subfamilies: one basic and one alternative. Each subfamily comes in 8 weights plus italics. The Alt version is highly recommended for those art directors who look for more varied fonts when designing.

As a practicing graphic designer there have been numerous occasions when I have needed a font that didn’t exist. More often than not the style I was looking for was described as an extra-condensed sans-serif with a contemporary look that was available in a variety of weights. Small caps would be useful, so would a range of numeral styles. And matching italics too, of course. The proportions would consider viewing on hand-held devices, cell phones, remote controllers. And not forgetting that the font would be used in situations which required stacking the lines close. So the overshoots needed to be eliminated – the exaggeration of extremities that are intended to avoid round characters appearing smaller than their more squarish counterparts, often colliding when linespacing is tight. As I refined the design, I tested it on several works-in-progress providing a valuable testing ground and proving popular with my clients.

To start with one personal fact: I really like to listen Rahsaan Roland Kirk. He was a multi-instrumentalist, real grandmaster and unique jazz virtuoso. The way he improvised and walked through variety of different music influences are admiring. One of things he liked is to modify instruments, so he modified soprano saxophone and got an instrument called manzello. When I was looking for good name for this typeface, it came on my mind that Manzello could be the perfect one. It has the symbolic background from the instrument and theoretically in my head, it's imagined as typeface that rely on stable classic examples, but graphically designed and modified to match modern standards. Manzello contains a dose of characteristics of display typefaces with terminals that aren't perfectly rounded, high contrast between stems and good balanced Italics with elements of fine calligraphy. It's a small font family, something what I was always looking for to have as first text solution in my web and graphic projects.

“Röijer” was born from a branding exercise done with “high care”, graphically developed thanks to the valuable help of designers Marcela Aguilera & Pedro Gonzalez, each letterform and every type design process was worked as a typographic jewel, as a strong bond between classical and fresh concepts (with a Lombardic and Art Nouveau touch). Röijer puts a dual capital model in your hands; a classic Roman and a fresh contemporary alternative, on each letter: the first located in a lowercase box looks formal and sober, while the uppercase box shows a glamorous and more daring look, ideal to being use at specific moments only. Röijer combine elegance and audacity in a very magistral way. It has 2 variants with 541 glyphs each one; a normal and a volumetric one, all with an ornaments set and a decorative objects set. CA Recape is a weird and beautiful vintage script family with two styles. It’s an excellent choice for creating logotypes, headlines, signs, poster and any design that requires a custom-made feeling. Zombie Apocalypse is way more versatile as its name would suggest. It might be used as a horror font (red color tones in horror games, movie covers) or in ads for an Offroad Experience Tour (or wherever it comes to dirt, mud and spatters in combination with brown tones). When used with light blue/red/yellow/orange colors, the font can express creativity and freedom (on fashion, inspirational art and advertising) because it is not bound to classic straight-lined fonts. In various shades of gray or in black, it can be used to support a "worn out" look. We used to have a composite worktop in our 'old' kitchen. It was cheap and the kitchen-guy warned us not to put any hot pans on the worktop, as it could crack due to Thermal Shock. Duh... When we installed our new kitchen, we opted for a ceramic worktop, which can handle hot pans being placed on it! Thermal Shock font is a very nice, handmade brush font. If you ever bought any brush fonts of mine, you will know that I almost always use Chinese ink and cheap brushes to create 'the look'. It is always a bit of a surprise how a Chinese ink brush font turns out: I created one the other day and it looked horrible, so it was banned.. Thermal Shock turned out to be a looker. Thermal Shock comes with one set of alternate glyphs, extensive language support (including Greek and Vietnamese) and a guarantee it won't crack in super hot designs.

ITC Johann Sparkling is the work of Austrian designer Viktor Solt, a perfect imitation of the handwriting of an educated person of the 18th century. ITC Johann Sparkling is intended to close the gap between highly formal copperplate scripts and the scribbled look of 'true' handwriting," says Solt. "I am not very interested in highly formal and perfect calligraphy, but rather in quick, personal-looking scripts. Usually I start with some historical samples in mind, but I do not try to copy these sources. Instead, I incorporate them into my own handwriting. It takes up to two weeks, and many sheet of paper, before the respective script becomes my own. Of course, this would not be an economic approach for individual lettering jobs, but I can conserve the custom script for future use by digitizing it." Inspired in the world of the fast-food, my aim with Burger was to achieve a sexy slab serif font. Since it's not very common to see slabs with swashes I consider this project as an experiment with interesting results. In order to mantain an even weight on the written word, all the glyphs including the swashy ones had to look like compact blocks: This makes the font work much better used with almost no leading, as seen in posters above. Despite the formal look of its genre, this slab serif is also very playful and unique. (Maybe unhealthy food deserves better fonts already, right?) Taste Burger, come on, give it a try! On a more personal note: Why I made this font? Some months ago I started the gym and with it, an strict diet to see some results faster... Maybe my temptation is being, in Lacanian terms, "sublimated" by making delicious and unhealthy fonts.

HS Albadr is an Arabic display typeface. The company desires to follow the geometrical shape with uniform and equal dimensions in both vertical and horizontal storks; where some parts of the letters are to be cut at a slanting angle of 45 degree to give the impression of a coherent geometrical nature for this font. The typeface HS Albadr is considered as a chain of geometric fonts series designed for engineering companies.
