When designing a typeface, one has to be conscious of superfluous details. Although I am always tempted to add little personal touches, experience taught me that the phrase -less is more- is totally true. In Model, the letters (like models do) participated of a contest: An event in which models engage in competition against each other, often for a prize or similar incentive. The prize was staying in the font! yay! Tall, delicate, refined, the right amount of elegancy: These were some of the aspects to be chosen. Typographically speaking, these things were achieved thanks to a tall x-height (which leaded the font to be somehow condensed), a subtle contrast between thicks and thins, and just the right amount of decorative swirls. The result is a nice script that can be used in magazines, invitations, posters, book-covers and works very well when used over photographs. Get Model and let it be the star of the catwalk. STYLES Model Pro and Model Small Pro are the most complete styles of the font. Both have all the ligatures and decorative glyphs seen in posters above (OT programmed). Model Std One, Std Two and Std Three are reduced versions of Pro. This means they have less glyphs inside. Originally, Viktor Solt-Bittner developed Attorney as a custom font for a law firm, hence its name. Attorney shows a systematic, yet unconventional placing of its serifs, hard corners and a clean design. The typeface was produced by Schriftlabor’s type director, Lisa Schultz. Attorney consists of 7 weights, from Light to Black, each of them accompanied by an italic, totaling in 14 styles. Basilio Calafati (1800–1878) worked as a magician under the name of Salamucci in the Wiener Prater. Later he obtained the license for a roundabout and other amusement facilities in the Wiener Prater. Calafati typeface family is characterised by little contrast and strong emphasis on the horizontals. It is a robust font that has many applications. Its character shapes are simple and relatively unembellished. With regard to metrics and proportions it combines perfectly with the Wien Pro and the Liebelei Pro. Calafati is available in weights light, regular, medium, bold and black. In 2022, Calafati received a major update. The recent family, Calafati Soft, is an 100% offspring of sharp-edged Original Calafati.

I named this font after one of my favorite songs by Soundgarden: "Rusty Cage". The font is a mishmash of letters, which were hand-drawn and given a photoshop overhaul to make them look grungy and grotesque. I mixed upper and lower case letters, added a whole bunch of alternate letters, spooned in some Salt and Calt and added a pinch of Liga as well. The result is a weird concoction, which looks good on posters, in ads and possibly even tattoos. I dare you!

Viktor Solt-Bittner drew logo sketches for an insurance company. Luckily for Schriftlabor, they rejected the design, and he turned the sketches into a font family. Years later, Plantago was expanded, developed and completed by Schriftlabor’s type directors Franziska Hubmann and Lisa Schultz. Plantago shows delicate leaf-like stroke endings and subtle curvings and offers condensed and wide variants.
