Capitolina is a family of 10 typefaces with a contemporary design style, based on different historical models. The original shape of serifs was a reference to 19th century’s Clarendon types though this inspiration remains as a subtle feature of the final design. Even subtler are the calligraphic influences, better noticed in the italics. The result is a set of typefaces that look more ‘constructed’ than ‘written’, referring to a rationalist style. However, it has a distinct approach to the aesthetic treatment of typographic forms that resembles the humanist tradition. Available in five weights of roman and italic types, Capitolina has a wide glyph palette that contains 800 glyphs in each font. Besides supporting basic Latin, western, central, and southeastern European sets, it has several OpenType features, such as case-sensitive forms, small capitals, ligatures, localized forms, number forms, fractions and more. Here's what I said about the original Ginza: Sometimes you get an idea stuck in your head and the only way to get rid of that demon is to put something down on paper. A year later the doodles became a skeleton, and then the skeleton had a body, then the body had a name, then the name got a personality. What was left was a clean set of fonts that encompass a very simple skeleton with a lot of visual appeal. And now with Ginza Narrow: Once Ginza was released, I immediately wanted to commit the time to create a narrower version—if for nothing else but to add additional versatility to the skeleton, but my schedule just would not allow it until a client recently asked me to. There was no need to ask twice as I had already started and then shelved the initial builds. I also had the opportunity to expand the localization of the fonts by adding Cyrillic.

I have just returned from a trip to Malaysia, Java and Bali with my family: my wife had some family business there, so we turned it into a holiday. The last time I visited these places was 26 years ago and I knew things would have changed, but I wasn’t prepared for the ugly truth. Malaysia’s interior has been converted into one big oil palm plantation, Java is choked in plastic and Bali is one endless string of concrete hotels, restaurants and cheap tattoo parlours. Plastic Fantastic is not an ode to the many uses of plastic. It is a wake up call: we really need to stop using disposable plastic! Yoko is a straightforward font with a straightforward message, and an interesting finish. Yoko wants you to enjoy life, live to your fullest and be happy. Yoko understands that it doesn’t look easy, but it can be, and you can achieve it. Straight lines and perfect corners make Yoko’s messages come across simply and openly. There’s no fancy flourishes in what you say with this font, just a goal and a solution. That’s not to say it’s dull though, because the textured finish gives Yoko a depth that carries its own form of weight. The Filosofia Regular family is designed for text applications. It is somewhat rugged with reduced contrast to withstand the reduction to text sizes. The Filosofia Grand family is intended for display applications and is therefore more delicate and refined. An additional variant, included in the Grand package, is a Unicase version which uses a single height for characters that are otherwise separated into upper and lower case. This is similar to Bradbury Thompson’s Alphabet 26, except that Thompson’s goal was to create a text alphabet free of such redundancies as the two different forms which represent the character “a” or “A”, whereas Filosofia Unicase does have stylistic variants to provide flexibility for headline use.

From the depths of an antique civilization is born "Nahual" inspired by my ancestral Prehispanic Culture, with traits that allows it to mimetize itself, hours of painstaking dirty work with the only goal to show all it knows we want to see, to finally give the Jaguar "Serifclaw" attack. This is a display fontface, it comes in two types, "Claw" basically the text font, and "Copete" that are the construction pieces for every single glyph of the entire font, this last also has the negative spaces of some glyphs (a, e, o, A, B, O, for example) I include them but I prefer the font without them. dT Jakob started as a revival by Gustavo Soares for Paul van der Laan’s class at the Type and Media Masters, in The Hague, NL – back in 2007. There are quite a few excellent geometric sans typefaces available, but we did want to make our contribution and have a fine geometric face to offer. dT Jakob was born out of Erbar, by Jakob Erbar, one of the very first geometric sans, released in metal around 1926. Our goal was to make a versatile typeface, that handles display and text typography beautifully. The Handel Gothic? typeface has been a mainstay of graphic communication for over 40 years - all the while looking as current as tomorrow. Designed by Don Handel in the mid-1960s, and used in the 1973 United Airlines logo developed by Saul Bass, Handel Gothic was an instant success when released to the graphic design community. Its generous lowercase x-height, full-bodied counters and square proportions make the design highly readable at a wide range of sizes. Handel Gothic's slightly idiosyncratic character shapes gave the face a futuristic look 40 years ago that retains its power today. In addition, its Uncial-like lowercase is instantly identifiable - and unique among sans serif typestyles. Award-winning type designer Rod McDonald was attracted to the simple, decisive forms of the original, but he felt the design needed to be refined and updated. ?One of my goals was to bring a modern typographic discipline to what was really an old phototypesetting font.? To achieve his goal, McDonald re-proportioned every character and balanced the delicate relationship between the curves and the straight strokes. He also added a number of alternate characters to extend the range of the design. ?I wanted to give designers a large enough character set so they wouldn't feel constrained in what they could do. I want them to be able to play with the fonts, not just set words.? McDonald enlarged the family from the single-weight original to five weights, each with a full suite of alternate characters.In 2015 Nadine Chahine designed matching arabic weights to this family.

The astype series Accolades A offers the designer a fine balanced set of calligraphic swashes, swirls and floral ornaments. The shapes are in systematic order and harmonize in contrast and detail. The shapes can be combined easily and the advanced designer can build hundreds of sophisticated compositions. Accolades A and A2 share the same base set of ornaments but differ in some of the major shapes. Despite these differences, the total width of the shapes will be always the same. Note: To look perfect, adjust the size of the ornament font to fit in contrast the design of the companion font. So if you use a Bodoni font as companion, try to match the thickness of the thinnest part of a upper case Bodoni letter with the thinnest part of a shape from the ornament. The inspiration source for MFC Botanical Borders is a collection of border treatments from the 1886 “Spécimens de caractères d'imprimerie” by E. Houpied a Paris. This collection of elegant floral and foliage borders has been put together with their original decorated rules, as well as alternate matching precision rules for added versatility. You can start with a new document or work on a new layer within an existing document. Select MFC Botanical Borders from the font menu. (Some users may have font previewing enabled in the font menu which will cause the font name to appear as border elements, disable this option in order to choose the name) Make certain that the point size of the font is the same as the leading being applied to the font so the borders will meet up properly. While we’ve adjusted this within the font, your program may override these settings. For instance a 12 point font should have 12 points of leading. As soon as my taxi driver took the bustling street Entre Ríos, it was clear that the city and I were going to be good friends. Many of the independently owned businesses on Entre Ríos are adorned with handmade signage. These signs are painted in a style called Fileteado which is a century-old Argentinian type of lettering and floral ornamentation. Nowadays, Fileteado is still a prominent part of the city’s landscape, coloring the façades of restaurants, bars and coffee shops. Calaveras and Diablitos are two new typefaces that were inspired by Fileteado. Stylistically, the fonts are a return to a rhythmic and playful sensibility reminiscent of Vitrina and Cuba, two fonts that I designed in 1996. Along with dynamism and dance, these new fonts incorporate a rigor and functionality essential to labelling any font a ‘workhorse.’ The names Calaveras and Diablitos, came from the name of a song by the infamous Buenos Aires rock band, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. —Pablo A. Bakery Script is the Argentine duo's nod to the high spirits of the 1970s. Angel Koziupa used his ever popular wild brush to draw the outline version, and Alejandro Paul refined it, expanded it, then extrapolated the solid version. While the outline version makes the letters seem like they're growing out of each other's shadows, the solid version presents a wilder version of the casual dancing letters Koziupa's brush has entertained us with during recent years. Naïve is a serif handwritten font designed by Fanny Coulez and Julien Saurin in Paris. Our goal was to draw a font with finely irregular lines that give a human and whimsical feeling. Typeface designer and Letraset type director Colin Brignall created the font Romic. The character of the strokes as well as the serif forms give the font its calligraphic look. The placement of the serifs, on the upper left and lower right of a character, also distinguishes this typeface and allows the figures to be set very close to one another. The dots on the i and j do not hang in the air, rather, they are connected to the rest of the letter with a light, serif-like stroke. The elegant and lively Romic font is legible even in smaller point sizes. It is best used in middle length texts and headlines and wherever an individual and sophisticated image is the goal.
