Northeast Railway is a product of argentine typographic archeology project called "Tipografía Histórica Ferroviaria" (Fabio Ares & Octavio Osores, since 2012). Is about the signboards of the stations of the line of the Argentine North Eastern Railway Company Limited (1987-1948). The letter of this signboards can be described as display type, with elementary geometric shapes and without line modulation. The principal font of the resultant family is the bold. The family is completed with complementary fonts of different styles. The proceeds from the sale of the fonts will be used to finance the project.

Staehle Graphia Script was designed by Professor Walter Stähle in the 1960s. It is a very vertical font in the style of the printing on private correspondence in the 19th century. The elegant and sweeping capitals of Linotype Staehle Graphia Script are particularly well-suited to the beginning of passages or lines while the capitals of Linotype Staehle Graphia are better for longer texts. Both should be used with a relatively small line width. The lyricism and liveliness displayed by the font makes it the perfect choice for artistic texts such as poems.

Griffo Classico™ was produced by Franko Luin in 1993. It is a revival inspired by the types cut by Francesco Griffo for the Venetian printer Aldus Manutius at the end of the fifteenth century. The roman is based on the type Griffo cut in 1496 for Bembo's de Aetna," and the italic on a type he cut in 1501 for an edition of Virgil. Griffo did not make separate italic caps, so Luin designed his own for Griffo Classico. This is a serviceable family with five weights, including small caps.

One of the odder things I remember from high school (50+ years ago) is the tile floor of hexagons in the bathroom. There is something fascinating with the way hexagons fill the plane. BakerHalfDozen is made of white letters that fit on black, hexagonal tiles. BakerHalfWhite switches the letters to black on white tiles, and BakerHalfBare eliminates the tiles. There are no true lower-case letters, but some letters have alternate shapes. To make the tiles line up right, alternate lines must be indented half a space. Use the {} characters (brackets) to do this.

The extravagant Odin was designed by Bob Newman in 1972. Its figures display constructed basic forms and when set into words, the typeface builds closely set lines. The strong serifs catch the reader's eye and draws it horizontally across the page. The forms of the capital letters are particularly distinctive. In the upper third, the stroke beginnings seem to form a roof over the body of the letter, fragmented by a fine white line that lends them independence and dominance. A meeting of Byzantine and Art Deco forms, Aphasia began as a series of handwritten captions to accompany drawings in the early 1990s. The drawings were abandoned to allow the lettering to become the real composition. Playfully set in blocks of verse with each line shaped through free-association, the only visual rule was that all the lines of capitals be of equal length. The challenge of the game required extensive abbreviations, ligatures, small caps, and superiors. With the advent of Letraset’s FontStudio program, the project moved into the typographic realm.

The upper-case letters of Lentzers fit into the shape of a convex lens and the lower-case letters fit into the shape of a concave lens. The typeface was designed to have concave shapes alternate with convex shapes so the letters snuggle together. The OpenType contextual alternatives (calt) feature will automatically make this happen if your word processor supports it. (To get only concave or convex shapes, one must turn off the contextual alternatives feature. With only concave shapes the spaces between letters form thin convex lenses and with only convex shapes the spaces between letters form thin concave lenses. The name of the family was inspired by these lens shapes and also by the name of distant ancestors.) Lentzers is caps only. It comes in three weights: light, regular, and bold. It is eye-catching for posters and titles and poorly suited for text.

Filistique is gracious, flexible, and stylish. In the first sketches of this typeface, the one-line drawing principle was the rule. This principal had to perish soon when more complex characters came up. But still the one-line rule was kept in tradition to maintain the behavior of the natural course of the drawing line. Once writing, the characters joined fluidly into words and slipped easily into sentences like they had always belonged there. They have these natural features maybe somewhat familiar on the first sight. Filistique approaches handwriting but likes to be straight up as well. Please, no Christmas card writing with this character! She is best in shape for finger licking good menus of classy restaurants, lyrics on an album cover of a renowned and utterly cool artist, for a letter to your precious loved one and of course for making a hell of an impression anyway!
