In 1905 Berthold released an engraved blackletter font called Prinzess Kupferstichschrift. Based on an old printed remnant, I revived this beautiful open-face fraktur and enriched it with several OpenType features. As usual in my blackletter fonts, the round ‘s’ lies on the number sign key, and a traditional number sign can be accessed via the Discretionary Ligature feature and typing 'N-r-period'. In this font you have also the possibility to turn I, V, X, L, C, D, and M into Roman numerals by activating the Stylistic Alternates feature. And last but not least, various useful ligatures polish up this font.

The origin of Quirky lay in the Duke Ellington number It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. For some time I had wanted to create a font from expanded stroked lines. I wanted to produce a light-hearted font, but with some classic touches. One day, whilst doodling in Adobe Illustrator, Quirky’s letterforms just appeared on screen as if from nowhere. First I drew the test word ‘hamburgefonts’ and then just kept going, unable to stop. Character after character appeared as if by magic. From the start, Quirky had a life of its own. The letterforms are rather more sophisticated than merely outlined stroked lines. Subtle adjustments to compensate for optical effects have been been incorporated. For example, horizontal stems have thicknesses slightly less than vertical stems and where stems join together, the thickening effect has been reduced by cutting into the joint. Being almost monoline, Quirky works well reversed out of a solid background and for TV credits. The Quirky fonts are fun fonts, so set, laugh and enjoy! I hope Quirky will give you as much pleasure in using it as I got in creating it! A renovation/excavation at a downtown urban construction site reveals the old ad on exterior brick. Barn Owl provides the headline in your project with the ultimate in aged retro visualization. It is a basic minimal font set which includes only uppercase letterforms. It is a headline font best used above 36 points in size. The first of our “Trifonictype” (Tin Sign is the 2nd) there are three components to the font, Barn Owl Outline, Barn Owl Fill and Barn Owl Shadow. Tripper is a rock-hard display font family. The six styles – from Light to Black – of this robust stencil typeface will assure your text grabs all the attention it can get. Instead of settings large amount of texts, just use this font for a small amount of words. Or even better: just one word. But most importantly: make it really, really, really big. The lightest weight is pretty condensed, and slowly expands when the weight increases. The bridges – essential to a stencil font – have the same width across all styles, so you can safely apply all styles in the same size without the risk of stencils falling apart. Due to the absence of curves throughout the whole family, Tripper is suitable for more limited, industrial applications too. Tripper comes in several flavours. A few bold caps drawn by Albert Du Bois for the 1906 Henderson Sign Painter book started me in the direction of looking at how sign painters approached slabs after the industrial revolution. The usual happened from there. My exercise in the early lettering roots of what eventually became the definition of geometric typography ended up having a life of its own. The majuscules led to minuscules, one idiosyncratic bold weight led to six more, and uprights led to italics. What was kind-of-interesting in the early twentieth century persuaded me to make it interesting enough a century later. This of course meant alternates, swashes, the standard baggage that keeps calling my name. Henderson Slab is a family of seven weights plus italics, all full of open features and extended Latin language support. Part of this family’s appeal is its coverage of nearly the entire of the slab serif through the last 100 years — the basis is the manual, humanist origins, the swashed forms come right out of the phototypesetting era, and the alternates and mostly modern constructs of contemporary ideas. The result is a set with the ability to function in modern spaces, from corporate to editorial, in text or display, while both winking and nodding at the roots of what is now considered a geometric endeavor. (Basic version do not include alternates, swashes, etc).

We cannot imagine anyone not liking beer. Especially on a warm summer night there is simply little that can top an ice cold brewski. And with the current wave of home-brewed ales and lagers, Vette Letters decided to not stay behind and brew its own brand. Just so we can design our own beer bottle label using our own font. VLNL Thueringer comes from the drawing board of Jacques Le Bailly (a.k.a. Baron von Fonthausen), the German-French specialist in the fields of both beer and type design. One day Jacques got inspired by Albrecht Dürers 15th century Fraktur (blackletter) alphabet, and decided to design a contemporary rounded version of it. Although the historic context is clearly visible, Thueringer definitely stands its own ground. It's a modern techno-style blackletter with a (beer)truckload of interesting design details. Thueringer contains a number of ligatures and an alternate set of numbers. Apart from the regular uses like logos, posters, flyers and headlines we definitely would like to see our Thueringer used on beer bottle labels and crates, but also cafés and hipster bars would do well with this modern-day blackletter.
