According to Wikipedia, a "clip joint" is an establishment, usually a strip club or night club (often claiming to offer adult entertainment or bottle service) in which customers are tricked into paying excessive amounts of money, for surprisingly low-grade goods or services - or sometimes, nothing - in return. These establishments were rampant during the prohibition years. However, the inspiration for Clip Joint JNL comes from a more positive source - a WPA (Works Progress Administration) poster advertising "The Lure of the National Parks". A bold, classic Art Deco design, it typifies the modern and streamlined approach to lettering in the 1930s and 1940s.

SHE'S DEAD, FRANK It's the year 1991, BC (Before Comicraft) when REM were still making records and Frank Miller’s memorable run on Marvel Comics’ DAREDEVIL was just over ten years old. Comicraft’s Richard Starkings found himself working in Anaheim, California for Graphitti Designs. Graphitti had produced the first hardcover edition of Miller’s Batman tale, DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and was now putting together the sequel to Miller’s DAREDEVIL — ELEKTRA LIVES AGAIN! Richard was not engaged to letter this book, the pages of Frank’s incredible original art that came through Graphitti’s studio were already lettered by Marvel Stalwart, Jim Novak. However, there were some cover elements that needed to be added, based on the logo originally rendered by Frank’s brother, Steve. Starkings set about the task of creating an alphabet that could be used to develop Steve’s idea for the trade dress -- the cover elements, the back cover copy and credits on the interior pages. This was long before Macintosh computers and font programs made this work considerably easier, so Rich sat down with a pencil and a sheet of vellum and rendered an alphabet that could be used as the basis for the text that was needed... Those sketches have languished in a drawer for nearly thirty years, but now, finally, Comicraft’s John Roshell has dusted off those old letterforms and Elektrakuted a font based on those designs, a font we HAD to call ELEKTRAKUTION! As for Elektra; she’s dead, Frank. What started as an idea where the counters would be letters (3 scribbled glyphs on a piece of scrap paper), has grown into a mighty font family of eight stackable fonts. First came Megatropolis itself, a Deco font within a Deco font; Double Deco, you might say. In Illustrator, you can deconstruct it to make solid letters, outline letters or just the inset letters on their own, and you can stack them how you wish. Or you can get the whole Megatropolis family with Black , Outline , Inset , Smog , Shade and Shade with Inset and keep them all separate stackable, editable fonts. In addition, there’s Megatropolis Benday (available in TT only), with its fabulous stackable comic dots. Megatropolis is a typographer’s playground.

Lagos was created because of the lack of African-inspired fonts that are truly modern without being partly art-deco in origin. I wanted to make a vigorous, sharp-edged font that reflects the energy and dynamism of modern Africa. The lines of the font combine the sharp angularity of African rocks and mountains with the smooth fluidity of Africa's snake-black rivers. The font is supplied in two styles, Lagos Regular and Lagos Light. Lagos Light is not a simple, mechanical modification of Lagos Regular. The outlines and proportions have been subtly modified to accommodate the lighter weight. Lagos contains a full 256 character set (upper and lower case, punctuation, diacritical characters, special symbols and numerals), in which all characters have been fully kerned and letter-spaced.

Tenby is a series of modular geometric display sans serif fonts with a hint of Art Deco combined with a 1980s finish. The fonts' underlying grid is ten squares high. Their widths correspond to condensed (Tenby Four), normal (Tenby Five) semi-extended (Tenby Six), extended (Tenby Seven), and extra-extended (Tenby Eight). Each contains two weights, light and regular. Although smaller text sizes are still quite legible, the fonts work better at large sizes.
