In the early 1960s, the Duro Decal Company of Chicago, Illinois added to its line of water-applied decal lettering a retail sign cabinet of die-cut, pressure sensitive vinyl letters and numbers. Four of the six sizes offered for sale were cut from white plastic with a black outline and a secondary gold inline for a tri-color effect. Sign Stickers JNL emulates as closely as possible the look of these nostalgic pieces, complete with the slight shifts in line weight due to hand-cut silk screens and the printing process. Rioma is a geometric typeface inspired by a legend of type design: Antique Olive. As a font family, Rioma ships in two different formats. There are very few Western-style stencil digital fonts available, hence Overland Stage JNL. In the days when stage coaches, wagon trains, the Pony Express and the first transcontinental railroad crossed the landscape of this country, merchants shipped their goods any way possible to the growing territories and states. Picture wooden cases filled with dry goods, hardware or foodstuffs marked in hand-cut stencil lettering and nailed shut for their cross-country journey. Companion fonts to complement this design are Frontiersman JNL (Western lettering with an inline engraving) and Frontiersman Black JNL.

A long lost Art Nouveau wood type from the Hamilton Museum Collection evokes the excesses of Victorian design and the equally quirky 1960s Psychedelic era revival of the Victorian type styles. Free flowing organic designs that flourished with Art Nouveau in the late 1800s were directly referenced and further distorted with with phototype in the late 1960s. This design, known as Arabesque, was produced by the Morgans & Wilcox Co. and the Wm. Page Co. as almost identical designs. Both manufacturers were acquired by Hamilton and offered briefly by Hamilton as design #618. This curious wood type defies most of the basic tenets of type design and what comes to mind when one thinks "wood type". Many characters have a lively eccentricity that were all left true to the original design. Additional characters were designed to fill out the standard range of characters found in digital fonts. HWT Brylski is a typeface by Nick Sherman, named for retired wood type cutter Norb Brylski and designed to be cut as wood type at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum. This font is the digital counterpart to the wood type made as part of the Hamilton Legacy Project . It incorporates several themes that were common in 19th-century type design, including split tuscan serifs with angled mansard-style sides, heavy weight placement at the top and bottom of letters (traditionally referred to as French or Italian/Italienne, regardless of any actual relation to those countries), and an extended overall width. This digital version contains over 400 glyphs for full European language coverage.

Neverland is my attemp of a lettering font. I was inspired by the letters in displays of retaurants. It will work great in posters, shirts, magazines and displays because it has a charming feel. I received a lot of help from my good friend Maximiliano Sproviero (Lián Types). The name is based on the tale of Peter Pan from James Matthew Barrie.

Monem is the word for the smallest significance-carrying part of a language. I thought that was a good name for a clean, straightforward Sans typeface. Bikini is a display-font that offers designers a variety of opportunities to create a lively and sophisticated typography. The font contains swash-capitals and roman capitals as well as two different forms of lowercase letters for endless combinations. Furthermore, a set of more than 60 ligatures is included. Bikini gets its charm by mixing up constructivist and handmade origination concepts. Although the letters show partially very expressive and overhanging details, the creation is strictly based on a matrix of circles and arcs (see drawing). In spite of its static and geometric basic elements Bikini seems to come to life and to break the rules of the grid, thus it looks somewhat psychedelic.
