Here is a decorative condensed antique design that is sure to fit a variety of contemporary situations. The Bruce Type Foundry (later acquired by V. B. Munson) developed this wonderfully shaded Tuscan in the 1880s - or possibly earlier. It was known back then as Style No. 1050 and carried a pronounced three-dimensional look with a thin hairline at the bottom and right of each stroke. It is best to use Frisco Antique in large display sizes because it is easy to lose these delicate hairlines. A lowercase and several alternate characters have been provided for your convenience. Frisco Antique Display is also available in the OpenType Std format. Some new characters have been added to this OpenType version. Dignus was inspired in two clever and famous typefaces: Bank Gothic and Microgramma. Bank Gothic designed by Morris Fuller Benton for ATF in 1930. Microgramma typeface designed by Alessandro Butti and Aldo Novarese for Nebiolo in 1952. Those typefaces were based on a stable rectangular shape with rounded corners, denoting the constructivist heritage and technological spirit of '50. The Clearface types were originally designed by Morris Fuller Benton in 1907. Their forms expressed the Zeitgeist of the turn of the 20th century; typical and distinguishing characteristics are the forms of the a" and the "k." The ATF version did not include an accompanying Italic. In 1978, ITC's Victor Caruso was licensed by ATF to develop a new serif typeface and matching italic based on the forms of Clearface. The result was ITC Clearface, a serif typeface with marked stroke contrast and italic weights. The teardrop-formed endings of the lowercase a, c and f (also found in Caslon) define the character of the face. The type's design is also distinguished by its small -- almost slab -- serifs, a large x-height, and little stroke contrast. ITC Clearface, with its historical touch, is good for both texts and headlines, but its slightly condensed nature performs at its best when it is allowed its space.

In each font they're grouped in fours - the same basic spiral in 4 different orientations (N S E W almost), and Spiraltwists has solid lines making up the spirals, Spiraltwists Antique has dotted lines making up the spirals, giving them an antique or rustic appearance. Spiraltwists has heavier spirals on Upper Case, lighter spirals on lower case; plus a group of spirals with a straightened outer end and connecting lines so you get two spiral scrolls joined together by a long line at the top or bottom.
