Iza W and Intellecta Design are proud to announce Invitation Script, a modern and clean revival of the classic work of the Portuguese master penman Manuel de Andrade de Figueiredo, whose work can be seen in “Nova Escola para aprender a ler, escrever, e contar (...)'' (1722). Invitation Script is the third script superfamily published by Intellecta Design, after Penabico and Van den Velde Script. Invitation Script has original letters designed by Iza W. Creative direction and core programming were provided by Paulo W. Chyrllene K assisted with some work on unusual and archaic styles, resulting in a special font - Invitation Script Archaic (soon available). Invitation started out from Andrade’s script style and evolved into a voluptuous script font family. Amboy is a two-font family. Amboy Inline and Amboy Black. Amboy Black is a recent addition. It can be used alone, but it is carefully tailored to fit behind the Inline font to add color to the inline. There are alternate characters: A, M & N in the caps and lowercase key positions. Amboy is a square gothic style typical of Mid-20th Century Showcard Lettering. A lettering genre known as “Gaspipe.” Signage samples similar to this still exist on buildings in my home town, Oakland, California. I have designed over a half dozen variations of this form over the years. Including Golden Gate Initials, Matinee, Motel, Hotel and Fresno. Designed in 2001 by Jim Parkinson, Amboy has been refreshed, enhanced, and re-released.

DecorateTheTree is a festive novelty font family containing two styles designed to be used in layers. Each style has letters on Christmas-tree lights. The regular style has clear bulbs and the bold style has filled bulbs. Some characters are on standing bulbs and others on hanging bulbs and these two sets are made to alternate with the OpenType contextual alternatives (calt) feature. To use only one set of bulbs, this feature must be turned off and character spacing adjusted, though why anyone would want to use only one set is a mystery. These fonts are monospaced. One of the charming features of vintage wood type is the unusual interplay of stroke widths or letter shapes that can vary from character to character. In today's world of digital perfection, a set of letters, numbers and punctuation marks must conform to rigid standards of uniform lines, balanced curves and other form-and-function rules that has often removed the human feel from the overall type design. While this is fine when applied to most text fonts and some modern display faces, Old Wood JNL is a simple throwback to an earlier time when type design was an artistic, not engineering endeavor. Modeled in part from vintage source material, this wood type design retains that charming imperfection of a time long passed.

Hennigar is a Neo Grotesque sans serif especially useful for display text and headlines. Many of the rounded letters are based on the appearance of the letter O with very little variation in width. Because of it's condensed nature the apertures are narrow with extenders that dip well below the base line. Similarly many of the lowercase characters are based on the lowercase o. Terminals and tails always point east/west giving the entire alphabet a very uniform appearance. Basic Latin, extended Latin, diacritics, punctuation, math symbols, symbols,Greek, Cyrillic, ligatures, fractions, alternates, and kerning are included. Kerning support for Macedonian and Serbian is included via alternate substitutions along with proper italics for Russian. Use Hennigar for a poster, web graphics, or book title.

A reminder of the days of flower power, Satron is quite a bit different, slightly hippy and slightly grungy. Although it is not in any way an attempt to emulate the fonts used in that era, it evokes the mood of the time. There's two different shapes making up each character, with a grungy black one in front of a hippy white one. The combined effect however is quite novel and modern. There's also a jumbled version with the letters rotated and whacked around, in case you want it funky-flavored. There's all the main characters plus lots of extra accented letters as well. The package contains both OTF and TTF versions - install either OTF or TTF, not both versions on the same machine.

This historic revival font was created especially for use in the preservation and restoration of the 1916 silent film “The Good Bad Man,” starring Douglas Fairbanks. There is only one copy of the original film print in existence, and when the film was restored for a screening at the San Francisco Film Festival in 2014 the new font was created to best recreate the intent of the original lettering in the film. It is a smooth and pleasant vintage lettering style, originally designed for use on silver screens, now fully rendered in OpenType and ready for you to use in your designs or web pages today. I was inspired to create the Rainier type family during my summer back home in the Pacific Northwest. The concept behind it may be simple - a hand crafted font family - but what it delivers is quite complex! Santa Fe was created by British designer David Quay in 1983. Distinguishing are its script characters and the lower case e, which has the form of a capital E. The letters of this font emphasize the base line. Rounded corners pair with elegant forms to give Santa Fe a flowing, cheerful look. The figures are reminiscent of American advertisements of the 1960s with their light, carefree images. Like with most script fonts, the letters of Santa Fe should be set close enough together that they touch. An added bonus are the various alternative forms with which Quay provided Santa Fe and the many design possibilities which they offer.

Albia Nova is a bit of a new departure for Greater Albion-an unashamedly futuristic typeface. It was originally developed for a friend of ours-a set designer who needed some lettering on props for a science fiction play-the brief was to evolve conventional letter forms and speculate as to what they may look like in the future. As released Albia Nova is a more refined version of this idea, placing a bit more emphasis on readability (today) over evolution of the letterforms. The result is good for giving design projects a futuristic feel, but also has something of the 1970s and 1980s about it.

I wouldn't recommend that you use this font for massive text, or text written in CAPS ... but then again, go ahead and try - I even kerned all the capital letters ... just in case that you would do something so crazy! :) Dynamique is a kind of a "straight out of the highway" grid-font. But then again, not ... if you use the lowercase alone, you have this almost monospaced font - try starting every word with a capital letter, and let it end with the alternate ligature, your words suddenly got even more power! If you want to go lightspeed - then use the same technique, but only with the italic version!

While helping produce a trade magazine years ago, I admired the hand-lettering of the art director -- a woman named Marydale -- and suggested she let me model a font after her penmanship. She agreed and drew out the alphabet, and I launched an old copy of Fontographer and (to shorten a long story) ended up developing my very first digital typeface. Which has since, astonishingly, become famous worldwide. So now the real Marydale gets the mixed blessing of seeing her handwriting (and name) plastered all over the planet. RF Marshall was inspired by an 1883 tombstone, tucked away in a pioneer cemetery. The 4-sided marker is sparsely adorned with homespun carvings of a handprint, two tulip poplar leaves, and these words: "RF Marshall died 1883 Aged 72 years." The font faithfully reproduces the stone's hand-carved lettering and artwork, as well as artwork from other 18th and 19th century American headstones. It was drawn with calligraphy nibs dipped in walnut ink and delights in a range of end uses including period films, rustic decor, Halloween decorations, historical logos and branding, and on the pages of children's books.

At VetteLetters we like food but we also appreciate our drinks. Yes, of the non-alcoholic kind as well. Like milk. Contrary to what Arnold Schwartzenegger once said, Milk is not just for babies. It contains a whole lot of stuff that is genuinely good for you. Like proteins, carbohydrates, minerals (calcium a.o.) and many vitamins. One time visiting The Hague, Donald DBXL spotted a tile tableau on a brick wall, advertising a dairy factory called ‘De Sierkan’. Yellow sans serif letters on a bright blue background, dating back to the late 19th century, immediately grabbed DBXL’s attention. Especially because the tableau showed both regular and bold letters with some lovely peculiarities here and there. De Sierkan appeared to have been a milk factory solely operating in The Hague from 1879 until 1961. A number of these wall adverts are still to be seen in The Hague streets today. Photos were taken for later reference. Later is now, the lettering has been digitized, missing characters added, and VLNL Melk sees the light of day. VLNL Melk is an all-caps geometric display sans serif family of three weights, Regular, Bold and Black. The basic shape of the letters is a rectangle with rounded corners, leaving a sturdy no-nonsense look and feel. It has a distinct historic aura, but with both feet in this digital day and age. It can equally well be used for the logo of a hipster coffee place, as the cover of a historic novel. Actually, VLNL Melk kan be applied in a wide range of designs like logos, posters, flyers, book covers and magazine headlines.

DESCRIPTION With Skill I wanted to create something wild. Something that splashed the letters with life. To do this, I knew I'd have to break the barrier between analog and digital, so I took my best brush and started to play. Throughout the years as a type-designer I've met and become fan of many calligraphers. My belief that only a good calligrapher can make good typography (1) has become even stronger. I'm now absolutely sure that only practice improves the skill, especially in this field. So, with this in mind, I started a font which was a challenge for me because sometimes the gap between paper and screen can be gigantic. Skill is another of my attemps (2) to capture the spirit of the pointed brush, its expressiveness, the passions and fears of the artist. This font is about freedom. Freedom everywhere. Movement, velocity, passion. To achieve this, many alternates and ligatures per glyph were designed. Use it on magazines, posters, book covers, music albums, t-shirts, skates, tattoos. NOTES (1) This is mostly referred to script fonts, though text fonts made by designers with a deep calligraphic background have at least to me, an extra charm. (2) See my fonts Live and Indie. TIPS Thanks to Open-Type, the font gives the user the chance to play and get many wonderful results: In example, using the font with “discretionary ligatures” activated will give more life to the written word. Some letters will jump of the base, while others will ligate or not with the following (typical of gestural calligraphy). Adobe Illustrator is recommended. STYLES Skill is the most complete style. It has all the alternates and ligatures that can be seen in the posters and more! Skill Standard is a variant with no decorative glyphs. It has the basic alphabet and some ligatures for better legibility.

This family was inspired by the early Fraktur style font used circa 1530 by Jacob Otther, printer in Strasbourg (Alsace-France) for German language printed books. Although it is an early Fraktur pattern, it is easy to see the characteristic differences with the Schwabacher style (look at 1538 Schwabacher), like in the small d, o or y... and the capitals (look at the H, K, T...). Frequently, Schwabacher and Fraktur were used together in the same book : Fraktur style for the main and Schwabacher for marginalia and comments. This font contains standard ligatures and German historical ligatures (German double s, long s, ts...) and diacritics (special ummlaut "e superscript" and "∞" instead of dieresis with letters a, o and u,) naturally, we have added numerous letters lacking in the original to permit a contemporary use of the font.
