Goudy Sans Bold was originally designed by Fredric Goudy in 1922 as a less formal "gothic" and finished in 1929. The light was designed in 1930 and the Light Italic in 1931. Alternate letterforms are included in these three Goudy designs which are digitized true to their original design. In 2006, designer Colin Kahn drew "LTC Goudy Sans Regular" which is a medium weight version intended for text purposes. Kahn has also designed an experimental "LTC Goudy Sans Hairline" which has a skeletal almost mono-width stroke and results in a surprisingly elegant display face.

The Tang family came to be, when I started studying fonts made for use in very small point sizes, like Bell Gothic. I studied the use of ink traps and went to town with them. Instead of just using them for their purpose: trapping ink to prevent the type getting blotted; I used them as a design feature. With those features Tang works very well in both headline and text use. I use it as a house type, and I've already seen it in a beer and cider labels.

Poplar is an Adobe Originals typeface designed by Barbara Lind in 1990 for the Adobe Wood Type series. Poplar, a Gothic condensed, was designed from photographs taken by Rob Roy Kelly of the one surviving copy of an 1830 William Leavenworth type specimen book. Leavenworth possessed unusual artistic abilities, and his treatment of the letterform counters as narrow slits made it the only wood type of its kind displayed during the nineteenth century. Poplar is an excellent display face, its simplicity making it useful for a broad range of work.

"Triole 21" is the name of a gothic script font designed by Bertram Kaiser. The forms of this so called "Rotunda" script are based on the manuscripts of italian calligraphers of the late 14th century. Inspiration for this project also comes from the calligrapher Lisa Beck. The glyphs were first written with a broad-nib and then digitized. The Open-Type font is equiped with multilingual (Latin-based) alternates, ligatures and oldstyle figures for various typographical purposes. Hollander is a refined, yet sturdy text typeface designed by Gerard Unger. The name stems from the font’s similarity to the types attributed to van Dijk and Voskens, two Dutch punchcutters from the seventeenth century. Like those earlier Dutch types, Hollander has generous proportions, a tall x-height, and high contrast between thick and thin strokes. It was designed to work in the early arenas of digital technology, when letters were generated as coarse pixels with a cathode ray tube in the typesetters of the 1970s, and then as finer pixels with a laser beam in the machines of the 1980s. Fortezza is a family of fonts inspired by the great masters who have created the Modern Roman style: Firmin Didot (1764 -1836) and Giambattista Bodoni (1740 -1813) Both typefaces can be similar, but a trained and close vision, show clear differences in the final result, like its weight and the degree of transition of the strokes. The type of Didot suggests greater warmth and elegance, they are characterized by extreme contrast in thick strokes and thin strokes, by the use of serifs very thin and by the vertical stress of the letters. while the Bodoni type conveys a greater robustness and hardness. Fortezza brings together the elegance and spirit of both types, but proposes a contemporary vision, establishing a distance with certain features typical of the baroque that was manifested at that time.

Originally made for a health food store chain we cannot name, Pipa is the embodiment of organic display typography. Although it draws inspiration from some cold type ideas, like the uncredited Atlantis from VGC and a couple of older photo-lettering faces, its overall expression is right in line with what has become today's vernacular in integrity organic display packaging. Pipa's construct approaches the thick-and-thin idea from a rarely used perspective, where the flow in form contrast naturally seeps out from within each stroke, while minimizing the amount of strokes helps the totality of the setting come positively alive. This is bead and lava lamp psychedelia for the 21st century. Pipa comes with plenty of alternates, including some very cool unicase variations, and extended Latin language support.

Liebling (in English: Sweetheart) was developed according to the sans serif font Mein Schatz with the purpose of having two typefaces which match perfectly. The contrast between thicks and thins was set very low. Just enough to contrast with same-weight Mein Schatz. One of the typeface’s characteristic features, also like its partner, is the availability of ligatures within an expert set. Liebling offers the characters sh, sp, st, ty among others and alternative letters for v and w. The majuscules of the expert set have curved elements allowing the designer to put the typeface to a highly individualistic use for displays and headlines. Another feature of the typeface are two different figure systems. In addition to the old style figures for use in continuous text, Liebling offers regular table figures within the expert set.

Froga font is designed to create minimalistic logos, wordmarks, titles, taglines. The place of lowercase letters is taken by usual sans serif letters, in place of uppercase letters there are unusual letters. New York to London via Europe The hardworking FS Koopman is a crossbred workhorse which draws inspiration from Swiss and Germanic grotesks, American gothics and early British grotesques, but refuses to fit neatly into any of these categories. Its neither one nor the other, but all of the above. Fontsmith designers Andy Lethbridge and Stuart de Rozario decided to take the characteristics they admired from each category and distill them down into one functional family. Neo meets Neue FS Koopman aims to swim against the tide of Helvetica-ish derivatives by bringing some personality and soul to a genre that all too often ends up feeling bland and sterile. FS Koopman subtly embraces the quirkiness and charm often seen in early twentieth century designs but pairs this with the functionality of later pioneers of the genre. It’s a grotesque isn’t it? The term grotesque surfaced around the early 1800s and refers to the early sans serif designs that many initially believed were strange or ‘grotesque’ due to their lack of elegant serifs. Later variations became known as neo-grotesques and this moniker stuck around even after they gained mass popularity. Some American variants became known as gothics. FS Koopman takes cues from all three categories and blends them into one cohesive design.

Hiragino Sans Rounded (Maru Gothic) is derived from the basic design of the Hiragino Sans (Kaku Gothic) with its wide counters and comfortable appearance. It features gentle typeface that provides graceful roundedness to the tips of all the strokes of a character. On the flip side of this gentle impression is the fact that every single element in the Hiragino Sans upon which this typeface is based has been carefully polished down in every respect in pursuit of an elegant roundness that makes it possible to handle carefully executed typesetting. That approach is clearly different from the general rounded typeface that makes full use of the body, and makes it possible to respond the requirement of professional typesetting. It is never-uninteresting design whose letterform is rooted in the traditions of traditional printing type. It is a font that of course can be used on its own and easily formatted just like Hiragino Sans while adding splendid coloring to the page. Furthermore, when used with other Hiragino fonts such as Hiragino Sans or Hiragino Serif (Mincho), the fact that all their designs are oriented on the same vector creates a multiplier effect. The user may be surprised at the sense of unity that cannot be experienced when combining it with other typefaces.

Acarau is a 6 fonts display typeface with high reverse contrast—since from Roman capitals and calligraphy, usually Latin alphabet letters have thiner horizontal steams and thicker verticals, these features being optical or visual—quite adequate for logos, headlines and posters. Moreover, the style of the typeface is inspired by Italics form factor: lowercase letters having less strokes to make their shapes; A has one story; E has one stroke shape, such as K, G, Y and Z; F has a descent. To give it more calligraphic feeling, there is contrast for uppercases as well, this is very perceived by the diagonal letters like A, K, M, N, V, W, X, Y and Z. J also has a descent. Q and R have natural swashes, but they have alternates in case the costumer want to go for more usual forms—including accent marked letters. Acarau is a 12 months project, the contrast for uppercases were increasing as the process was made. In the middle it is found suitable blend the letter shapes with the history of Brazilian music from the 70’s and 80’s, since the font has a tropical, warm, spicy and nostalgic feeling. Songs from bands and singers that emerged on Rio de Janeiro like Paralamas do Sucesso, Cazuza, Lulu Santos and Kid Abelha bring the beach accent and rhythm that this font has.
