Anca typeface started as a comission work for Fest Anca, an international animation festival. They needed something to complement the corporate identity of the festival. Inspiration came from a sketch made by my friend long time ago, which had a tremendous potential. As letters were digitized and the basic alphabet was completed, a very practical and universal typeface resulted. The whole type family has a playful and simple look with rounded stroke endings as well as long ascenders. The construction skeleton uses the minimum number of strokes and as a consequence, some original letter shapes (Q, w, j, &, A, §) were produced. Despite the fact that most letter shapes are based on geometry, some strokes are intentionally irregular, which creates a very natural feeling. Anca is appropriate for setting short paragraphs, headings and big inscriptions.

In Amaboxi the upper-case letters are all placed upon a background inspired by the cardboard boxes that many people in Africa use to carry their possessions. The box takes its shape from the character and conversely, the character is influenced by the shape of the box. All characters except the six "fractions" are included in Amaboxi. It includes all upper and lower case letters as well as all numerals, punctuation, accented and special characters. All characters have been letter-spaced and kerned in terms of the box (not the character). This improves legibility, however, the inter-character spacing has been minimized so that there is often a very slight overlap between the boxes of adjacent characters. This generates an exciting and variable "white space" around the characters.

After release of Wood Bonnet Antique No.7 some of my clients asked for a sans serif version. So I printed my second batch of old wood type. Typoskript AR is based on a metal type which was produced in 1968 by VEB Typoart, Dresden, from a design of the German calligrapher and lettering artist Hildegard Korger. It bears all the qualities of the artist’s inimitable style which will be immediately recognizable to anyone who’s familiar with her Handbook of Type and Lettering (Lund Humphries, 1992) (Schrift und Schreiben, Leipzig, Fachbuchverlag, 1971). The ARTypes transcription retains the roughness of the artist’s pen on paper as it was featured in the original type, as well as the letterfit, ch, ck and f-ligatures. ARTypes have supplied the font with all the standard accents, monetary signs, etc. The original qu logotype is provided as an alternative letter. Willard T. Sniffin deserves the credit for this charming little stationery and greeting card typeface developed for American Type Founders in 1930. Capital letters show an occasional hint of ornamentation and lowercase letters are of the linking variety. The original set of exquisite alternate characters (A,B,G,T,V, W, o, s) has been included in this digital version. Adonis Old Style is ideal where a 1920s or 30s script-like lettering look is required. Adonis Old Style with Alternates is also available in the OpenType Std format. The Dragon Quill family is the 3rd reincarnation of earlier (yet to be released) dragon fonts. A simple 'Dragon Round' grew to become 'Dragon Flare', then evolved to become 'Dragon Quill'. Within the Dragon Quill family, 1 'Subtle Goth' is the most basic, followed by 2 'Goth' and 3 'Gothic'. 4 'Tribal Tattoo' is the most complex font in the family, adding hooks, spikes, holes and extra shapes around and between letters. Because of the complexity of level 4 'Tribal Tattoo', occasionally inserting letters into existing text may cause some unusual effects between the letters. If you find this distracting, a workaround can be to convert it into one of the other fonts (like Subtle Goth), while editing, then to turn it back into 'Tribal Tattoo' when finished.

Cowhand is a display typeface designed by Toshi Omagari to keep words at one specific width. Words of one letter will have one very wide character, words of two letters will have characters of half that width and so forth. At the maximum of 20-letter words, characters become very tightly compressed. The design of the Cowhand typeface is inspired by western style block printing with reverse stress that is characterised by chunky slab serifs. This Lite version of the typeface was designed as part of a font marathon over the course of 3.5 days in Monotype’s NY office. Please Note: these "Lite" fonts are offered with a limited character set. Monotype is proud to support Room to Read’s work in literacy and girls’ education through our font marathon initiative.

It is still a mystery to us why Martin Wilke's 1968 Konzept design was ignored by the digital age. It certainly has the elements of attractive yet realistic handwriting, as well as a few very distinctive letters that make it very unique in its class. So here it comes digitally under another feline name from Canada Type. We named it Cougar because the top of the C gives off just that impression. Ditto the G's casual descender, and the gorgeous a and g. With casual letters like these, a handwriting font cannot get any more realistic. Cougar is ideal for handwritten notes, both long letters and friendly short sentences. It's also great for use in scrawl design, titling, or any environment where friendly and casual appearance is of importance.

The Klutz AOE Pro Family was inspired by the plethora of naive hand drawn lettering becoming commonplace in modern advertising. What I hadn't seen was a family of hand drawn typefaces, in a range of widths and weights, with both alternate capitals as well as small caps character sets...and so Klutz Pro was born. The letterforms started with a few letters my daughter had drawn which I expanded on from there. Madison Antiqua was original released as a metal typeface for hand-setting in 1965. The letters were produced by D. Stempel AG in Frankfurt, Germany. Their design was based heavily on an earlier German typeface named Amts-Antiqua, which had also been produced by Stempel. Amts-Antiqua is credited to Henrich Hoffmeister, and he developed it between 1909 and 1919. Madison Antiqua is an excellent selection for body text in magazines and newspapers. The typeface features a characteristic x-height, and attention-grabbing serifs.
