If you were you looking for something delicious, a font that covers a really wide range of uses and always looks amazing, Fabiola should be your choice. Although it may look as another of my scripts with juicy swashes, this time I explored in depth the pairing and interaction with capital letters for more unique results. Why? We are going through some crazy days where the number of people interested in letters is only growing. We see lettering everywhere: I can say that finally our field is shouting out loud; letters are THE protagonist more than ever. Hence the need of combining and pairing different styles is booming. Fabiola Script and Fabiola Caps were done in a way that they seem to need each other. There's nothing better than the above images to prove this. But, how does it work? The big swashes of the Script style were designed so they can surround, wrap and mingle with the Caps styles. The smaller swashes are meant to be used when the Script is alone. Simple, right? The Richie™ typeface grew out of a lettering experiment inspired by the work of Czech type designer Oldrich Menhart (1897-1962). Menhart’s typefaces were primarily text designs with a strong personal calligraphic influence. Monotype Studio designer, Jim Ford, wondered what a display typeface from Menhart might look like, and began drawing bold script characters with a broad-tipped chisel marker. “It was a familiar but laborious exercise,” explains Ford, “I tried to achieve an authentic – yet controlled – randomness that would serve as the foundation of a typeface.” Ford first drew a large suite of characters using the marker. All the drawings were then carefully adjusted, and scanned. Ford then pieced together a typeface from the best versions of letters, and refined those further. The result is a rugged, somewhat eccentric and playful script built on an obvious hand-drawn foundation. In a world of smooth scripts, the Richie design is heavy, chunky and rough. Its hand-made feel and vigorous rhythm put the power of raw brush lettering into the typographer’s hands. Once upon a time (a.ka. 1984), there was a Goth band who called themselves "Hemingway's Shotgun." As a symbol of his commitment to this band, the bass player acquired a tattoo of a shotgun on his forearm. Unfortunately, this tattoo wasn't very well drawn: the barrel was much too short, and was much thinner at one end than the other. The tattoo rather resembled a small, cordless, rechargeable hand-held vacuum cleaner. Thus, the band "Hemingway's Dustbuster" was born.

The Swedish designer/typographer Anders Bodebeck designed the Bodebeck type family in 2002. The family, which includes five different styles, is primarily intended for use as a titling, or display face, and belongs to the neo-transitional style of typefaces. Transitional style type first appeared in England during the late 1750s, when John Baskerville released his first sets of type. Bodeck bears similarities to another, later transitional style typeface as well - Eric Gill's Perpetua (originally released by the British Monotype Corporation in 1928). Like these two previous English stonecutters turned masters of typography, Anders Bodebeck has given us a modern re-interpretation of classic letterforms. Bodebeck, which is fitted with old style figures, is available in the following styles: Regular, Italic, Bold, Bold Italic, and Extra Bold."
