This family was created from the set of font faces used in Lima (Peru) by Antonio Ricardo in 1584 for the first publication ever printed in Southern America: a four-page leaflet in Spanish entitled "Pragm·tica sanciÛn" with information about the new Georgian calendar of 1582 which had not yet been communicated to the colonies. In our two styles (Regular & Italic), font faces, kernings and spacing are as close as possible to the original. Bristol and Bristol Adornado (also known as Greco) was first released by Fundición Richard Gans of Madrid, Spain, in 1925. The Richard Gans Foundry is a defunct Spanish foundry which existed from 1888-1975. Throughout its existence, types were designed by a number of people including José Ausejo Matute (d. 1998), Antonio Bilbao (who created Escorial in 1960), the son Ricardo Gans, and Carl Winkow. Darmhagh Underwood is a “rough” monowidth font based on the face used on the old Underwood manual typewriter. Darmhagh Underwood was first digitized in 1999 by Michael Everson and originally used the MacGaelic character set on the Macintosh platform, and ISO/IEC 8859-14 on the PC. In 2008 Darmhagh Underwood version 3 was released in OpenType format, completely compliant with Unicode encoding and with an extended character set. The particular Underwood typewriter from which samples were taken to design Darmhagh Underwood is on display in the National Library of Ireland. It belonged to Conradh na Gaeilge and was used to draft armistice documentation which led to the end of the Irish War of Independence in 1921. Darmhagh is pronounced [ˈdaɾuː].

Royalbrick is a contemporary display unicase typeface. It is a part of upcoming type family — light and condensed style. The font was inspired by factory stamps’ typography on bricks made in 19-20 century on Russian manufactures — this kind of bricks was also called “royal bricks”. Released on the occasion of the 2012 London Olympics, Olympukes 2012 was a new set of pictograms telling the ‘real’ story of the Olympics and extending the unofficial project that began in 2004. The occasion of the London games provided an opportunity to revisit the complex contradictions of the modern Olympics and to acknowledge the geopolitical shifts of the intervening eight years. The 2012 games arrived at a time of great economic and political uncertainty for the nation and Europe. Greece – the host of the 2004 games – was now located at Ground Zero of a disintegrating Eurozone and the United Kingdom was two years into a programme of austerity enacted by the coalition government of Conservatives and Liberal Democrats. Given that the previous London Olympics had been held in 1948, in a climate of recovery and austerity after a devastating World War (1948’s Olympiad was dubbed the ‘Austerity Games’) there was a sick irony to the 2012 games' arrival. The suppression of human rights in order to deliver the perfect games for PRoC’s Beijing games shocked no-one and yet, in London, the security measures seemed grossly excessive. Then again, in a country with an estimated 1.8 million cctv cameras, perhaps we shouldn’t have been so surprised. Another aspect of the Olympics that returned for 2012 was the unfettered commercialism – if you think the Games are about pure sport, about noble human endeavour, think again. The Face2Face (F2F) series was inspired by the sound of 1990s music, personal computers, and new font creation software. For years, Alexander Branczyk and his friends formed a unique type design collective, which churned out a substantial amount of fresh, new fonts, none of which complied with the traditional rules of typography. Many of these typefaces were used to create layouts for the leading German techno magazine of the 1990s, Frontpage. The typeface F2F OCRAlexczyk is one of the Face2Face fonts in Linotype's Take Type Library. It is based on the popular computer font OCR A, which was developed by the American National Standards Institute in 1966 as a system of letters that both humans and machines could easily read. Alexander Branczyk made a more 1990s/techno version, which later became this font.

We produce original printing press letter fonts, for example from the journal Southern Literary Messenger (circa 1830 - 1870). The only one in the world. What makes our fonts so attractive to the eye, are the myriad imperfections. It's not an approximation to the printing-press letters--- these are the actual letters, complete with all their manifold differences. If you look closely you will notice that the letter 'e' say, each time it is printed, is slightly different. These differences arise from the mechanical action of the inked-wooden press on the paper, and cannot be faked by artificial means. The eye subconsciously picks up this text as the actual printing press letters. Edgar Allan Poe published many of his great works in the Southern Literary Messenger, as did many other great nineteenth century writers, ie. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Nathaniel Hawthorne &c.

Poliphilus is a facsimile of the text of the 'Hypnerotomachia Poliphili', after which it is named, published by Aldus Manutius in Venice in 1499, using a type that had been cut by Francesco Griffo. As a design, Poliphilus is related to Bembo, but whereas Bembo was redrawn, with the intention of making a new face based on an old design, Poliphilus is an exact copy of fifteenth century printing on hand made paper. So exact in fact that even the original ink spread is reproduced. This may not seem like a very sound idea for a typeface, but the letterforms are good and the design is functionally successful. Blado, the italic for use with Poliphilus, was used by Antonio Blado in 1539, and designed by the calligrapher Ludovico degli Arrighi. The Poliphilus type is used mainly for book and text work."

More Printing Helpers JNL gathers another assortment of vintage printing embellishments and ornaments from the late 1800s. Within the standard twenty-six alphabet keys are pointing hands, corner pieces, border elements and decorative center and end pieces. On the lower case, certain elements have been flipped or inverted for matching effects. Some additional positions are available on the 1 through 9 keys and on the colon and semicolon. A bonus to this font: three expandable panels. the first (with decorative end caps) is attained by typing the left parenthesis for the left side, the hyphen for the center lines and the right parenthesis for the right side.
