Brass Rail JNL is a novelty font, with its name derived from two key components of the source material. It was modeled from examples of vintage small letters stamped out of brass with "rails" above and below each character to fit within a slot. The most likely use of these letters would have been for either decorative initials or small merchandising signs (similar examples of both have been seen in the past). From these few examples comes a typeface with numerals, punctuation and an extended character set.

Originally released in 2008, Churchward Newstype is a workhorse text family, designed by the late Joseph Churchward back in the early 2000’s. If you’re familiar with Churchward’s typefaces, you might know that he always brought a little something quirky to his designs. Churchward Newstype doesn’t disappoint. The exaggerated concave serifs make a statement that is subtle, yet gives the typeface a unique flavor. The proportions and scale of the letters lend themselves to very good legibility in text applications, and the Bold weights are strong enough for headlines. Churchward Newstype is good for text copy, and headlines, and at giant point sizes, great for adding emphasis to posters! The Churchward Newstype family has four weights, Light to Bold, with 13 degree slanted italics. Each font has a second set of tabular figures. In this updated release, each weight now has an extended character set that supports most Western and Eastern European languages.

A little-known design by Futura designer Paul Renner gets a long overdue update by Linda Hintz and Toshi Omagari, in this reliable and impactful industrial sans serif. Neue Plak offers more weights and widths than the original 1928 design, extending its use for branding, editorial, logos and UIs. The pair based their updated and extended version on the original Plak wood type, uncovering lost details and incorporating them as alternates – including the choice between open or strikethrough counters. Neue Plak's outwardly stubborn personality is counteracted by unexpected details, which make for an unusual juxtaposition of severe and playful. “It felt like we should pay Paul Renner more tribute,” says Hintz, who spent time researching the typeface in Hamburg's Museum der Arbeit. “The forms themselves are partly quirky, partly really fun, but with a German stiffness that makes for a strange mix.” Neue Plak offers 60 weights, including a new text version that pairs well with the display weights, and allows the design to function in print and digital environments, and for a wide range of uses. Neue Plak Text Variables are font files which are featuring one axis and have a preset instance from Thin to Black.

I loved this monster font the second I saw it - it reminded me of Franquins Idées Noires... Reworking it and adding the missing glyphs and diacritics was quite time-consuming - but a lot of fun! Lots of details. The Lupineless variant is Lupine with eyes, decorations and stray hairs removed - which leaves just a very usable fuzzy font for your monster-related headline. Kevin King says: "I love fantasy writing and my favorite author is Terry Pratchett. In Reaper man, my favorite book, there is a werewolf character called Lupine, I wanted to make a font for him and for Ludmilla... It's a long story, it's a hairy font." Bushing is a quick serif experiment going for open light display type. For years I have always stopped and really liked what I saw with fonts like the original Cushing from the turn of the 20th century. This time the desire for a font was stirred by Felici's article in CreativePro on fonts from the beginning of the 20th century, especially his captures of Cushing No. 2 and the version commissioned for Norwood press from ATF. I'm not interested in historically accurate reconstructions. My desire is for the general feel I get when I see a font. As a result, Bushing has little to do with Cushing (other than the last six letters). But it is a Serif font with small serifs and a huge x-height with a very open feel. I like it. I hope you do also. I made it into a limited display version of OpenType Pro. I added small caps and oldstyle figures, as I can hardly work without them. But ligatures seemed silly for this one.

The English typographer Robert Harling created Tea Chest in 1939 with the Stephenson Blake foundry. Today, this classic design is available in digital format from Linotype GmbH. Tea Chest is a bold stencil face. The font's narrow letters are all caps, and they sport small, slab serifs. Harling's design was most likely reminiscent of the old industrial lettering painted onto boxes and wooden crates that used to be shipped all over the world on the high seas. These letters had to be simple to reproduce, easy to read, and not take up too much space! Try out Tea Chest for large signage displays, on exotic product packaging, or in magazine or newsletter headlines.

Historical typography makes a comeback. A revival of one of the most popular of a number of rugged typefaces used around the turn of the century, Croft revives the creation of Lewis Buddy III, known as "Roycroft" in 1912 ATF catalogs. It also, according to ATF, was designed "partly" by Morris Benton, around 1898. The original typeface might be considered an early form of grunge fonts. This typestyle maintains historical flavor, while also being relevant today. It has been expanded to have more discretionary ligatures and numerals sets for versatility, and maintains the original stylistic alternates and standard ligatures. Lianhua is a handwritten font with a soft touch, given by a Chinese ink brush. There are lots of Chinese western fonts having a strong, sharp visual feeling, like the strokes of Chinese characters, so I decide to do the opposite: soft. Because except for Yang, there is also Yin in Chinese culture. The name 'Lianhua' means lotus in Chinese. This font is flexible and widely-used, it's suited for book titles, posters, brochures, flyers, even for menus of a Chinese restaurant. The total glyphs in this font is 351, including basic Latin letters and symbols, Latin-Expand A, 10 ligatures and 2 alternate letters, which are the letter g and letter y.

National Champion is an overly confident geometric slab that comes in four weights. He is best suited for those looking for a well colored, balanced and spaced font in the College genre. He's got a 3/4 cap lowercase, lots of language options, opentype fractions and meticulous hinting for web use.

The original version from this display sans-serif typeface was Van Condensed, published during 2004 (Latin, Greek and Cyrillic). Van Condensed Hebrew is the last script update, where the Hebrew characters follow the same design approach from the Latin characters (geometric structure, round corners). The only big difference between the Latin and Hebrew characters is the contrast, Hebrew letterforms contain reverse contrast.

Murbia was written with a glimmer-pen which has left the letters with a grungy look. What's even better is that the font comes with loads of ligatures for both double letters/numbers and the most common letter combinations...just to make the font look more like real scribbled handwriting! You will need to use OpenType supporting applications to use the autoligatures.

This is a monospace font for the Braille alphabet. The idea came while exploring new ways to display the regular braille glyph ( 3 rows of 2 dots ). The glyph design is inspired by "stackable multiple board" games like the famous Vulcan chess (from Star Trek series) and the Qubic (3D tic-tac-toe). The stack is made from 3 levels, each level is a 3x3 grid with 2 "playable" cells (South-West and North-East). Each cell can be either empty, filled by a white square token or a black square token. The 3D effect is obtained by means of the classic isometric perspective. Lowercase letters use black tokens, while uppercase letters use white tokens. Most special characters (e.g. digits, *$#@, []{}() etc.. ) are also provided for special usages like program source code (see poster 5).

I had a chat recently with a customer who is a big fan of lettering from the psychedelic poster era. The discussion got me thinking about poster lettering we hadn't yet made into fonts, and a particular sample from a Jimi Hendrix poster I had played around with but never finished making into a font. So I went back to the drawing board and the result is the new Hendrix font. Unlike many of our other Psychedelic fonts which are stripped down to their basic character forms, this font includes the outlines characteristic of a lot of poster lettering from that period. It also includes variant versions of a number of the characters

Font family Opticum is not just a set of fonts, it’s a maze construction kit that hides letters inside. Each inscription is a little brain-twister with variable difficulty, where the level is defined by the style. The third one is the most difficult. This font is an orphanage where all the beautiful details of classical grotesque typefaces from the early twentieth century are gathered, and thus living together, are forming a ‘new’, happy family. The aim was to collect my favorite characters in one font. The start was an eclectic collection orientated on British types from the Caslon Doric No. 4, the Monotype Grotesque, the Gill, the Franklin Gothic up to the Transport. In this amalgamation I avoided the narrow apertures in the ‘e’, ‘c’ and in the numerals ‘5’, ‘6’ and ‘9’ and enlarged the x-height dramatically. To the classical slanted form of the italics I added real italic forms for ‘a’, ‘e’ and ‘g’ in order to obtain a more distinguished italic style. DF-Dejavu Pro supports all Latin-based languages (Western, Central-European, Eastern-European, Baltic and Turkish) and includes small capitals, ligatures, inferior & superior numerals and letters, fractions, various numeral styles: proportional lining, tabular lining, proportional old-style, tabular old-style and last but not least a slashed zero.

RAN Reformed Typeface for Beginners by Georg Salden - 
a headstrong and courageous approach to an improved handling of handwriting. Diverse and sometimes irreconcilable theories exist about how beginners are supposed to learn writing and reading. This has led to fierce discussions among experts already. We don’t want to pour more oil on the fire, but hope to create a new awareness for this topic, which is important to everyone of us. For beginners the combination of single characters (sounds) to whole words is essential during the acquirement of reading and writing. In this process they develop the skill to recall entire terms from memory. Therefore, after current practice, every word shall be written in a single stroke without lifting the pen in between. Georg Salden contradicts this postulate and warns, that coercively holding the pen down within a word can easily lead to exaggerated loop formations and a general meandering of the written text. The intellectual process in connecting single sounds to words while writing would happen anyway and the prohibition to lift the pen would often lead to tensions. 
To still support the necessary connections in general and to simplify the connecting, he teaches to write all round letters like a, e, g, o with inclusion of the connecting stroke, so that the spacing and combining with the next character arise by themselves. By settling the stroke at certain points and with a clear and logical writing method, a conscious and careful contact with the various strokes arises. All this automatically leads, together with a certain deceleration, to an increase of beauty and readability in the handwriting. 
The repeatedly discussed topic »connected or unconnected« appears to be solved in the most comfortable way as, depending on the particular character combination, both solutions are possible.

We are very happy to announce the release of our first collaboration with master calligrapher, designer and illustrator Gabriel Martínez Meave from México. The first in the series of new designs is Wordless Script, an emotional calligraphic typeface published by Sudtipos. Speechless. Breathless. Wordless.
