A Trollkatt in Norwegian myth, is the cat associated with witches. The last few days a stray ginger cat seems to have adopted us - she comes into the house, lies down on the carpet and loves the cat food we bought her. We have posted some ‘found a cat’ messages online and hung op some flyers - just in case someone is missing a cat. Because of the stray, I decided that I should name this font something cattish, so Trollkatt is what popped up. The font is quite nice; I made it with my Chinese ink and a brush, from which I cut most of the hairs. This font won’t catch mice, but it will put some magic into your designs! And the stray cat… well, if she isn’t chipped and no one comes to fetch her, we will keep her. #happyending

I like orange juice. Come on, who doesn't? Orange juice is the drink of heroes; it's the elixir of life; it's the gods' own ambrosia. Suco De Laranja means orange juice in Portuguese and I named this font thus, just because I love the stuff! Suco De Laranja is a very narrow, very gentle typeface with a rough edge. It comes in a variety of languages and guess what? I have added Cyrillic as well. Just to be complete. So there you have it: a font named after a juice. Take a sip and enjoy! На здоровье!

Christy Marie likes fun fonts. This was the first font to meet with her approval. It's bouncy, teenage girl sort of font and would do well at parties or the mall.

FG Callie is a Calligraphy font, but it shouldn't be taken too seriously :) With curly ends on the descenders and her not so straight lines it's more of a fun font.

A sign of something better When designer Stuart de Rozario surveyed the fonts used in signage on London’s public transport systems, he reached a dead end. They seemed staid, sterile, lacking in personality, and ill-suited to use by modern brands. He was pointed in another direction entirely. ‘The driving force behind my thoughts was to design something more current and fresh without compromising legibility and clarity. A font with both personality and function, that’s versatile and large and small sizes, and effortless to read, but which also says something new.’ Speed reading Late for a meeting and can’t find your way? Trying to catch a flight? Lost in a hospital? Reading signs is a different business to reading a book or a newspaper. Text on signs needs to be deciphered quickly and effortlessly. So the legibility criteria for signage letterforms are different to those for normal reading, too. Throughout FS Millbank’s uppercase and lowercase alphabets, characters have been given features for extra definition, including: wide ink traps on the A, K, M, V, W, X and Y; a serifed i, accentuated spurs on the a, d, l u; and different x-height shapes on the b, g, p and q. Distinctive forms and generous, open internal shapes all help the quick reading of sign text, and wide, open terminals and counters allow similar letter shapes to be distinguished easily when viewed at different angles. Running down a corridor, maybe... Positive/negative Standard type tends to glow on the kind of dark backgrounds often used for signage, and look heavier than its true weight. To correct the imbalance caused by this optical trick, special weights of the typeface have to be drawn for these ‘negative’, light-on-dark applications. These are lighter than their comparable positive weights to overcome the ‘glow’ effect. After extensive tests of the negative weights, at all sizes, we achieved the right optical balance. Glowing, glowing, gone. Icons This wouldn’t be a signage typeface without its own set of icons, or symbols, to help people find what they’re looking for. So, to sit alongside the positive and negative fonts, we’ve created a comprehensive set of 172 icons, covering a wide range of applications from transport and user interface to information and directional. Designed within the typeface capital height, they sit on the baseline and are spaced centrally.

Bellissimo Display boasts an impressive range of handsome all caps ligatures that would make even Herb Lubalin jealous. Here is a wood type from Tubbs & Co., about 1900. Its lack of decoration reflects the changes that were rapidly occurring in the design of printed pieces at the beginning of the 1900s. There were several similar types in metal in the first decade of the 20th century.

It was our initial intention to develop a suitable lowercase for Les Usherwood's Elston typeface, based on a few characters from an old German typeface called Hermes Grotesque (Woellmer, Berlin). However, the new design quickly took on a life of its own, and we decided to call it ‘Creighton’.

Pitmaster was designed with summertime barbecue in mind, with its straight pointed spurs Pitmaster is sure to get attention for any project western and BBQ related. Patmos Sans is a carefuly hand crafted sans serif font, inspired by the art of the cyrillic calligraphy, as well as the script of the Greek Orthodox art. After inventing a new metal typecasting procedure that allowed for the production of more detailed typefaces, the famous German typefoundry D. Stempel AG developed Kuenstler Script in 1902 - 1903. Originally called Kunstlerschreibschrift (artistic handwriting), this design was based on English copperplate script styles from the late 1800s. In 1957, Hans Bohn added the heavy Kuenstler Script Black weight to the family. Like intricate handwriting put to paper with a feather and an inkwell, Kuenstler Script makes almost any text look distinguished and elegant. Kuenstler Script is a joining script; and because of its fine hairlines and small x-height, it is best used at sizes above 12 pt. The typeface works well in advertising work and on invitations, greetings cards, business cards, and certificates.

Fontology-E is an experimental font designed by Fabrizio Schiavi. It was created for the cover of the Fontology catalogue. Schiavi's need was to build an optical false modulation effect with versions of the logotype and typical rectangles of an empty font chart. The basic idea was to create a page that contained many rectangles in order to demonstrate the modulation. At the same time, it was important to understand that Schiavi inserted 8 versions of the same logotype each time the corresponding letter is digitized in e, a, d, f, g, h, c and b. The inside of the catalogue has the same layout and text, which is revealed by fanning the pages. Schiavi confess that Fontology-E is a highly experimental typefont.

Henry VII draws it's inspiration from an inscription in Westminster Abbey dedicated to the memory of His Late Majesty of the same appellation. However, it is also in large part in the best tradition of 19th and 20th century Tudor revival. The inscription consisted wholly and completely of Capital Letter forms and we have 'imagined' all the rest in similar style, so Henry VII is very much a Mock Tudor work. Never the less, we feel it is great fun and ideal for lending an aire of 'Olde England' to any piece of design. Best used with 'Greensleeves' playing ever so softly in the background!
