  2. FS Truman by Fontsmith, $80.00
Beyond broadcast Like Truman Burbank, the star of The Truman Show, FS Truman was born for TV. You’ll know it from Sky One’s on-screen trails and announcements, but it’s just as at home in other media. Its starting point was the skeleton of a highly legible, space-saving, corporate font with some of FS Dillon’s geometric discipline built in. Its distinctive tone of voice and “ownability” are in its boxy but friendly shapes, and characters with hybrid features. FS Truman’s weights and widths were honed to work at TV screen resolutions. A face for TV it may have been, but this is a font that works on every level, on screen, in print, in headlines, in listings, in longer text, in tight corners and open spaces. The space-saver Compact, condensed but crystal clear, FS Truman comes into its own where a lot needs to be said in not a lot of space. Its letter spacing allows the type room to breathe, even at small sizes, while its fulsome x-height and diminutive descenders pave the way for tighter leading. A natural for headlines and titles over three or four lines. “Hybrid” features With every font, Fontsmith look for crafty new ways to imbue letterforms with a consistent character. The idea with FS Truman was to introduce “hybrid” features. In open letters such as “c” and “s”, for example, the top terminals have straight, vertical cuts while their lower terminals have a more angular, cursive finish. Boxy, spacious forms with unusual curves and angles create not just highly legible and efficient letters but strongly distinctive ones, too.

  4. Simplo by Durotype, $49.00
Simplo: the ‘Italian Futura’. Simplo is a geometric sans serif typeface, built in sixteen styles. It is a tribute to the 1930s typeface Semplicità, designed by Nebiolo’s Alessandro Butti. Although many details of Simplo differ from Semplicità, it preserves the spirit of the original. Simplo is ideal for use in display sizes. It is also quite legible in text, and is well suited for graphic design and corporate identity design. Simplo has sixteen styles, extensive language support, eight different kinds of figures, sophisticated OpenType features — so it’s ready for advanced typographic projects. The most notable characteristics of this typeface are the ‘t’ and the ‘f’. The ‘t’ is the culmination of simplicity: a vertical line with just a simple right-side crossbar. The ‘f’ also has just a right-side crossbar, and is really tall: it reaches both the highest and lowest vertical position of the typeface. The top of the distinctive ‘s’, is much narrower than its bottom. The ‘a’, ‘b’, ‘d’, ‘g’, ‘p’, ‘q’, and ‘u’ are spurless, and show a family resemblance with Hans Reichel’s 1990s typeface Dax. However, these letters are rounder and more geometric than Dax’s counterparts, because of Dax’s higher x-height and narrower design. In Paul Shaw’s Imprint article about typefaces that have been overlooked and/or underappreciated, “Overlooked Typefaces”, he concluded his discussion of Semplicità as follows: “These idiosyncrasies suggest that Semplicità might find a warm reception today, given the current love affair with Gotham, Neutraface and Proxima—and the resurgence of ITC Avant-Garde Gothic.” Free demo font available. For more information about Simplo, download the PDF Specimen Manual.

But it’s not just beautiful; in OpenType savvy applications, Hedgerow’s capricious character pairs will surprise and delight you, taking your words to the next level. 6. Skullbats by Canada Type, $24.95
Patrick Griffin's sister is a really annoying individual sometimes. Not only is she into theater, but she thinks everyone else in the universe is into it as well. So once in a while tickets to local or provincial Shakespearean plays get delivered to the mailbox or dropped off on the living room's table. And once in a while the tickets just cannot be "lost" or ignored. Three or four times a year, Patrick must be subjected to Olde Englishe Speake, umbrella dresses and squeezetops, featherhats and men in leggings, rhyme and treason, mortality and immorality, drama inflicted by some mama, and it never ends. Last June it was Hamlet. Again. Someone's (wink wink) idea of a good time. There he goes, the Prince of Denmark, holding that skull with the tips of his fingers like it's an alien egg. Alas, poor Yorick! Yadda yadda boop-bop-a-loo-bop. And so the idea of a font made of skulls was born. And what can we possibly be but conduits for such abhorring ideas? Where be our gibes, our songs, our flashes of merriment? Skullbats has more skulls than you'll ever see in your lifetime. At least we hope so. Scary skulls, funny skulls, evil skulls, strange skulls, pixel skulls, fiery skulls, surprised skulls, happy skulls, sad skulls, cow skulls, sketched skulls, profiled skulls, light bulb skulls, cartoon skulls, techno skulls, alien skulls, expressionist skulls, pirate skulls, horned skulls, and skulls with whacky headgear. You name it, it's there. There's even a disco skull there for you. We lost count at 90 skulls, but there's a few more in there. For a complete showing of the skulls in the font, consult the image in the MyFonts gallery. Patrick's sister didn't turn out to be so bad after all. After making this font, he couldn't help but notice that her skull was a bit small compared to his. So now he takes every opportunity to remind her that the size of the cranium is relative to what it houses. Her upcoming halloween present will be a shirt with guess-what on it. Shirts, now there's putting Skullbats to good use!
  7. Rainier by Kimmy Design, $10.00
I was inspired to create the Rainier type family during my summer back home in the Pacific Northwest. The concept behind it may be simple - a hand crafted font family - but what it delivers is quite complex! Here is a breakdown of everything you get: FONT FAMILIES: Two sub-families with unique styles - Rainier North and Rainier West WEIGHTS: 4 weights per family, broken down numerically - 100 (light), 300 (regular), 500 (bold), 700 (black) OPENTYPE: In each family, there are tons of OpenType options, offering lots of customizable opportunities (in order to access all these goodies, you must be using Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign or Publisher). Because Rainier is 100% handmade, contextual alternatives allow each letter has three subtle variations, this way it keeps that authentic hand-drawn look. Additionally, a full alphabet with special descending swashes, as well as start and end swashes for capitals and small caps. Titling alternatives offer a full character set just to help with readability! Meant for captions or smaller text, these letterforms are easy on the eye and a great complement to the regular alphabet. Stylistic Alternatives add a little fun, providing a unified cap height, no matter what case you are using (all caps, small caps or lowercase.) Discretionary Ligatures are created only for capitals, and takes specific letter pairs and creates a unique ligature between them To get a better understanding of everything, please check out the quicker user guide (http://bit.ly/1W0Bfma) and print if you so desire (http://bit.ly/23W9ZV6) that helps you navigate your way around and get the most out of Rainier! Unfortunately those links aren't working right now and soon I will have them fixed. So sorry! ORNAMENTS: In addition to the font, you get a set of awesomely rustic ornaments designed and drawn to go specifically with Rainier! - Rustic Northwest Illustrations - Banners & Flags - Frames - Flourishes - Lines & Line Breaks - Arrows There are a lot of extras packed in this set, so make sure you check out the Ornaments User Guide to get the most out of it! Check it out here: http://bit.ly/1rRVJRx And that’s all folks! Hope you enjoy Rainier!

  9. Aphrosine by ParaType, $30.00
Aphrosine is a font based on pointed pen script. A huge lot of alternatives and smart OpenType features allow it to look almost indistinguishable from real live handwriting. Aphrosine is something between handwriting and calligraphy: it took too much effort for being “just handwriting” but lacks seriousness and regularity comparing to true calligraphic fonts. That’s why it was called after a peculiar character from a children’s book: a witch who was very fond of dressing, makeup and writing letters. Aphrosine has three faces. But unlike most other type families, the glyphs from one face do not match exactly the glyphs from another one. The faces are based on writing with different nibs but by the same hand. The type is designed by Alexandra Korolkova and Alexander Lubovenko and released by ParaType in 2015.
  10. Virginia by Type Associates, $31.95
Virginia has a proven track-record. Unashamedly geometric, starkly simple with a touch of art deco/bauhaus/rococo about her, she was the most popular headline face around, at least in my home town in the year of her release circa 1970. That was the year my five-weight design won the inaugural (and only) Lettergraphics International Alphabet design competition and shut out 5000 competitors. Alas, Lettergraphics ceased to trade from its LA studios after the mid-80s and Virginia's two-inch film fonts were left to collect dust on the cutting room floor. Until my recent decision to revive her along with some subtle tweaking, a few additional glyphs and Opentype features, supported by an abundance of kern pairs making Virginia suitable for text or the largest display type.
  11. Klapt Arabic by SevenType, $29.99
Klapt Arabic is a geometric sans serif family that is soft on the outside and sharp on the inside. It is based in the Arabic Kufic style. Klapt Arabic can be bold or very elegant and is well suited for designs ranging from branding and corporate identity to editorial design or web design. It has a timeless style and is great for display purposes, especially for headlines, posters, magazines, book covers, logos... you name it! This font family of four weights includes an extended character set supporting most Latin languages and extended Arabic, including Persian and Urdu. Feel free to share your designs using Klapt Arabic or just get in touch via email to hi@seventype.com. Klapt Arabic is the extension of Klapt https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/seventype/klapt/.
  12. Raclette by Linotype, $29.99
Raclette grills are an ingenious Swiss invention. This tabletop grill is used to cook raclette cheese, a unique sort of cheese produced by the happy cows of Valais. Swiss designer Michael Parson created a typeface in 2002 that speaks endearingly to his hearty homeland tradition - endearingly enough, he named it Raclette. Raclette most likely started out as a bold, condensed sans serif. But then, just as one pulls little trays off of a raclette grill, Parsons quickly removed many rectilinear bits from the edges of each letter. Text set in Raclette looks like an old brick wall, or perhaps like a raclette party for several hundred people, that ended an hour ago! Raclette is one of ten of Michael Parson's experiments in type design featured in the Take Type 5 collection from Linotype GmbH."
  13. Soprani Variable by insigne, $129.99
"Step into a world where the 1920s meet the future with Soprani—a typeface that seamlessly blends vintage charm and modern sophistication. Drawing inspiration from a distinctive plaque unearthed in New Zealand, Soprani showcases serifs that flare and shimmer, capturing the essence of art nouveau and arts & crafts in a contemporary light. Dive into its rich OpenType features, granting designers unparalleled flexibility to bring their visions to life. Its condensed yet elegant letterforms are the perfect fit for everything from artful table books and stylish menus to dynamic media showcases in TV and film. Spanning from the graceful subtlety of its thin variant to the undeniable boldness of the black, Soprani is diverse and dynamic. Soprani isn't just a typeface—it's a revolution in design. Production assistance by Lucas Azevedo and ikern.
  14. Wild Pen by Corradine Fonts, $14.95
Wild Pen is a handwritten typeface created through an experimental pen that’s made from recycled plastic bottle. Its spontaneous strokes are very free and allow presence of drops and blots of ink. The complete family consists of five different fonts, which have the same feeling, and allow mixing them to obtain a lifelike, handwritten text. OpenType users may choose Wild Pen OT, which includes not just the five basic sets but also contains many additional alternative characters and some discretionary ligatures. Wild Pen OT is discreetly programmed to mix the five basic sets, randomly, and improve texts with the additional alternative characters—which have, in some cases, more than ten additional letters for each character. Wild Pen contains almost 1200 glyphs to cover many Latin languages (Western and Central European).
  15. Grit Sans by Baseline Fonts, $39.00
Grit Sans is a font balanced enough to stand strong on the tippy-toes of its pointed "t" ascenders. Even all caps communicates calm. Dashes of whimsy in the proportionately plump X-Heights tell of the accountant drinking too much sherry at the office Christmas party, but thick, consistent strokes never lets you forget his job title. Ascenders and descenders consistently reach the same heights and depths, further attesting to the reliability of this typeface, at even very small sizes. Available in both regular and bold face, Grit Sans is a faithful complement to thin fonts with a pinch of frivolity such as Heirloom Artcraft. It is ideal in use for titles, subheadings, menus, playbills, custom stamps, logos - anywhere a solid font can speak at a volume just above all others.

  17. Insider by Characters Font Foundry, $25.00
Insider is a warm & legible grotesque. It’s custom made for Insider Consulting in Düsseldorf, Germany. It’s highly legible in small sizes because of the basic proportions and the balanced inner forms. It’s optimized for setting longer texts, but also works very well in headlines and leads. The fonts contain loads of OpenType features to spice up your design. The matching Stencil font is very suited for creative designs. The Stencil Regular has the same dimensions as the Insider Regular, so you can mix them without hassle. The font family has real italics and not just mathematically slanted romans. The dynamic cursive shapes root in handwriting. With 9 styles (5 weights + 4 italics), the family is very versatile and can be used for designs with a complex typographical hierarchy.
  18. Envoy by Tim Rolands, $20.00
Envoy is a serif type inspired primarily by Garalde oldstyle types like those of Claude Garamond. As such, it is particularly well suited for book and magazine text. Characteristic details more typical of Venetian oldstyle faces serve to give Envoy just a bit more personality. The base family includes regular, italic, bold, bold italic and small capitals. Expert sets add ligatures and alternate letterforms. Display sets include letterforms customized for titling. Originally designed in 1995 and 1996, for the 1996 Morisawa International Typeface Design Competition, Envoy was later revived, completed and publicly released in 1998. During the initial design, the family was known as Truman in honor of Northeast Missouri State University becoming Truman State University, but the name was changed to Envoy prior to entry in the competition.

  20. VLNL Bleek by VetteLetters, $35.00
Bleek started its life as a logo for a rock band with the same name. This makes sense as it has distinct roots in classic rock logo design. Any rock band name set in VLNL Bleek looks instantly cool – profi logo quality! Of coarse Bleek will serve an awesome purpose as a headline font as well. Or gig flyers and posters. Or band backdrops. Just turn it up to 11! DBXL expanded the original logo into the full Heavy weight and added Light and Medium cuts. VLNL Bleek is an all caps font with uppercase and lowercase variations for maximum effect. It has a number of Open type features, like and alternate F, mirrored A and O and a TT ligature to spice up your designs. VetteLetters says: Rock on!
  21. Modesto Initials by Parkinson, $20.00
Modesto Initials had existed as a single font for several years. I recently added a fill font to put color in the Inlines. The Inline font still works by itself. The Fill font works alone too, as an ultra Modesto on steroids. They work best together. Modesto is a loose-knit family based on a signpainters lettering style popular in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. It evolved from the lettering I used for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Logo. The Modesto family was not planned. It just happened, a few fonts at a time over about fifteen years. In 2014 seven new Italic fonts and two Chromatic families were added. There is a downloadable MODESTO USER MANUAL PDF in the Gallery section for this family.

  23. Naive Deco Sans by S&C Type, $8.00
Naïve Deco Sans is a layered sans serif handwritten font designed by Fanny Coulez and Julien Saurin in Paris. Our goal was to draw a font with finely irregular lines that give a human and whimsical feeling. It is available in two versions: double or triple lines. The font is also decomposed in three different parts that you can use to improve your designs with multiple colors, giving to the font a deco touch. To do so, you can simply superimpose the parts with a compatible software like Photoshop and choose a color for each. This font is part of our Naïve superfamily that contains lot of variations: Line, Inline, Serif, Sans Serif... Just click on our foundry name to see them all! We hope you will enjoy our work. Merci beaucoup!
  24. Daft Script by Hanoded, $15.00
I really like creating script fonts. Why, I hear you say? Well, creating script fonts lets me be me. I am not trying to create classy, connected fonts for you to write love letters with: there are already too many of those available and quite frankly, I just don't like them. I prefer the messy script fonts - uneven, no real baseline and with a bit of splatter or rough edges for good measure. Daft script is one of these messy script fonts: it was handmade and it comes with two alternates for the lower case glyphs that cycle as you type. This is an all-caps font, so that means you have 4 options per letter! I also love languages (I speak 6), so Daft Script comes with fantastic language support, including Vietnamese and Sami.
  25. Acolyte by Altered Ego, $45.00
An elegantly refined typeface with a subtle wedge serif, the character shapes of Acolyte STF set a rhythm of light and dark like windows in a cathedral. Standing tall (as in condensed!) and respectful, Acolyte STF is aptly named as a companion to any design, packaging and advertising. Acolyte will illuminate your designs with a display typeface reminiscent of European 20th century letterforms. Its distinctive letterforms are slightly chiseled and angular with curves in just the right places. Wrapped in an aura of mystery, Acolyte's origins are from condensed typefaces, with an understated gothic feel. Available for Macintosh and Windows, Acolyte will set an edgy tone for all of your design needs. Complete with an Adobe-standard character set, this font also includes the Euro and is cross-platform compatible.
  26. Capellina by Outras Fontes, $35.00
Capellina is a responsive type family comprised of four styles – two script fonts and two small caps romans – built to work together in typographic compositions intended to catch the eye. The fonts will work in your app as you can see in the presentation above. They can be seen as some kind of lettering machines programed to take advantage of swashes (specially at the beginning and and at the end of text lines) and to avoid stroke collisions. Because of the Contextual Alternates feature, the letters will change while you’re writing. Just use any OpenType-compatible software, keep this feature activated and the font’s algorithm will do the rest. In Capellina Script and Capellina Rough you can also use the stylistic alternates / stylistic sets feature if you want to explore some extra letterforms.

  32. Mr Happy by Hipopotam Studio, $22.00
Hand drawn narrow typeface designed for one of our books. You can layer different styles over the background style to achieve lots of colorful effects. Use just one style to get a single color letter or set the shadow and fill over the background style to get a full, three color mode. Mr Happy has upper and lowercase characters with up to three alternate glyphs. Build in OpenType Contextual Alternates feature will automatically set alternate glyphs depending on frequency of appearance of the same character (even in web font but only in HTML5 browsers). The script doesn’t throw random glyphs. For example in the word “HIPPOPOTAMUS” you will automatically get three different “P” glyphs and two “O” glyphs. It really works great but of course you can always fine tune it by hand.
  33. Kappa Vol. 2 by W Type Foundry, $25.00

Moreover, due to its serif Kappa Vol.2’s level of legibility is more accurate, so when you use it alongside Kappa sans the results will be extremely effective. Designed with powerful OpenType features in mind. Each weight includes alternate characters, ligatures, fractions, special numbers, arrows, extended language support, small caps and many more… Perfectly suited for graphic design and any display / text use. The 36 fonts are part of the larger Kappa super family. Learn about upcoming releases, work in progress and get to know us better! On Instagram W Foundry On facebook W Foundry wtypefoundry.com
  34. Polyspring by PintassilgoPrints, $29.00
Polyspring is a handcrafted serif display font, with a cool flowery flair. It was hand-drawn based on Italia Condensed typeface from Keystone Foundry from circa 1906. Loaded with stylish ornaments and flourishing alternates for all its letters and numbers, this font is a terrific toolbox for display purposes. Yet, it has the superpower of changing the first and last letters in words to its germinated alternates at the click of a button, thanks to the smart OpenType programming. Please note that this feature will only work in OpenType savvy applications. Check it performing live on the sample text below: just click on the Advanced Typography option, located next to the sample colors options (look for an icon showing “ff”), and check the option “swash”. Very cool, isn't it? Happy blooming!
  35. Monstro by PintassilgoPrints, $24.00
Monstro is a carefully hand-crafted typeface with different lettershapes on upper- and lowercase slots, although being an all-caps font. When working in OpenType savvy applications, the contextual alternates feature can take care of alternating the glyphs, preventing double letters from showing the same lettershape while bringing more spontaneity to your designs. There is also a set of stylistic alternates for added amusement: just turn on the stylistic alternates feature or pick the glyphs manually. Monstro comes in 2 versions: sketchy and solid, both hand-drawn. And yet there is the matching picture font that brings a big bunch of irresistible monsters and other very cool graphic elements. Sans-serif and bold, useful and friendly, these fonts are quite perfect for a monsterful of purposes. I can tell that you are gonna be friends!

  40. Bodoni Classic Ad by Wiescher Design, $55.00
I became interested in designing Bodoni Classic because of a lazy graphic designer at Jacques Damase publishing house. He had to change a single letter on a bookcover about J. B. BODONI. The French call him Jean Baptiste instead of Giambattista! And that unknown graphic designer just took any old “J” from some newly cut Bodoni. All the new Bodoni cuts have square serifs, whereas the originals had rounded serifs and slightly concave feet. The single letter “J” with the squared off serif was for me like a road sign to start redesigning the entire Bodoni family. That’s exactly what I started in 1993 and a dozen years later I am finished. Okay, I am still adding new Bodoni Classics, but those are my personal additions. Yours very retro, Gert Wiescher
