In 1903, the typeface family Alternate Gothic was developed for ATF (American Type Foundry) by Morris Fuller Benton. It was Benton’s intent to solve many diverse layout problems with the development of a narrow Sans with different width values. The Alternate Gothic enjoys great popularity to this day. Therefore, Elsner+Flake re-worked the typeface family, added all European fixed accents and complemented it with an Antique version.

Eden Light, originally designed by the American type designer Robert H. Middleton in 1934, was commissioned by Publish magazine for a redesign in 1990. When I found a specimen of Eden Bold a couple years later, I decided to digitize it also. Subsequently, I created a Medium weight. Very squared and compact with thin slab serifs, Eden includes support of all European languages that use the Latin alphabet.

The Danish designer Nina Lee Storm designed Noa for use on television and computer screens during the late 1990s. She began her six-member type family with the creation of bitmap fonts, developing their print outlines only secondarily. In his book of 100 Wood Type Alphabets, Rob Roy Kelly called this face "Teutonic". Hand lettered, the title on the sheet music for a 1940s hit song "Ti-Pi-Tin" inspired Guadalajara JNL. The melody and original Spanish lyrics were written by Maria Grever, one of Mexico's first successful female composers, with English lyrics supplied by Raymond Leveen. “Teja” font was inspired in the lettering styles printed on enamel advertising signs. The enameled iron signs were, from 1880s until the 1950s, amongst the most striking features of streets and railway stations in most towns and villages around the world. “Teja” was designed specially for use in logotypes, advertising and packaging. Chapeau is loosely inspired by a Johnny Cash letter written on an old IBM typewriter. The original typeface called “Doric” was a rare example of a proportionally aligned typewriter face, supplied by IBM in the late 1960s. The letterforms have been carefully aligned to avoid exceeding width and to achieve an efficient, contemporary appearance.

Hermann Zehnpfundt’s Enge Journal Antiqua, released by the Emil Gursch Foundry, Berlin, in 1910, revived and redesigned. This font contains also a long s, which can be reached by typing option + b, or turning the round s into the long one by using the OT feature historical forms. It is recommended to also use the OT feature discretionary ligatures to get access to all ligatures in this font.

Thomas Nagel and his friends had the demand to create new unusual faces that should be used in the leading german techno magazine Frontpage". Even typeset in 6 point to nearly unreadability it was a pleasure for the kids to read and decrypt the messages."

Invites is a digital recreation of a 1920’s mechanical script that has never existed. I designed it for my wedding invitations last year and named it in honor of my (ex)wife. Who said it wasn’t her. And she was right. So now it’s called something different. I wanted a sweet, romantic name ... Iris? Taken. Lily? Taken. Iris Lily? Cumbersome. I wanted something short and inviting. Uh ... hmmm.

Nature Stencils JNL brings together a number of vintage decorator stencils with bird and flower motifs (along with individualized elements from the original designs). These home decor stencils were manufactured by the Huntington Oil Cured Stencil Company somewhere around the early 1950s. In the late 1920s Walter Tiemann cut this font for Klingspor Brothers in Offenbach am Main. It comes close to Luthersche Fraktur and, though quite slender, possesses a good gray value and readability. This blackletter font fits excellently into narrow columns.
