Basel Neue is the complete redesign of BaselSans ITD font, the first typeface of Isaco Type foundry, launched in 2009. Steinweiss Script began its journey towards daylight when Michael Doret was asked by Taschen Publishing to do cover lettering for the huge commemorative edition they were putting together on the work of Alex Steinweiss—“The Inventor of the Modern Album Cover”. The lettering was to be created to appear similar to the famous “Steinweiss Scrawl” the calligraphy that Steinweiss had used on countless album covers. While designing this piece of lettering, Michael realized that there was great potential for a font that was designed in the spirit of that famous “scrawl”. Through his contacts at Taschen Publishing, he was fortunate enough to be able to contact the Steinweiss family, and get the official Steinweiss approval to proceed with his “Steinweiss Script” project. Michael decided that in addition to giving the font his name as an homage, that he would donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this font to the man himself: Alex Steinweiss. Textus Receptus is a historical revival based on the Roman and Greek types used by Johann Bebel (and later also Michael Isengrin) in Basel in the 1520s. The Roman is a low-contrast medium-to-heavy Venetian reminiscent of Jenson or Golden Type. The unusual polytonic Greek, not previously digitized, is lighter in weight and supplied with all the ligatures and variants of the original. Yet when used without historial forms the Greek has a surprisingly contemporary feel: it’s quirky and playful as a display face, but still easily legible in running text. Bebel’s Greek extended and refined the one used for the first printed Greek New Testament, Desiderius Erasmus’ Novum Instrumentum Omne, published in Basel in 1516 by Johann Froben. The name of the font was chosen in honor of this edition, which was so influential that it was later called the Textus Receptus (the “received text”), serving as the basis for Luther’s German Bible in 1522 and much subsequent scholarship for over 300 years. Following 16th century practice, Textus Receptus contains 130 ligatures and stylistic alternates for Greek, accessible either with OpenType features or with five stylistic sets. The Greek capitals, often printed bare in early editions, have been equipped with accents and breathings for proper polytonic or monotonic typesetting. The Roman includes both standard and historical ligatures along with the abbreviations and diacritics typically employed in early printed Latin. For expanded language coverage it has the entire unicode Latin Extended‑A range and part of Latin Extended-B. The capital A is surmounted by a horizontal stroke, as in some 16th century Italian designs, and the hyphen and question mark have both modern and historical form variants. Mark-to-base positioning correctly renders fifty combining diacritics, and with mark-to-mark positioning the most common diacritics may be stacked, permitting, for example, accents and breathings on top of length-marked vowels. Let me introduce URLOP, a wide type family suitable for your fancy posters, headlines, covers, illustrations, websites, initials, blackmails, chronicles, signboards, poems and many others. Twelve basic styles, which make the overall construction, give a wide range of opportunities. All of them, being able to mix with each other, vary from a thin INSIDE, through a medium FILL, to a double-stem PLUS styles. And then comes a range of colour fonts, so you don’t have to waste any of your precious time for experiments, because I’ve already done it for you! URLOP is an all-caps display collection consisting of three sub-families of fonts, divided by the usage they are designed for. First of all, there is a wide range of alphabets made in the new OpenType-SVG colour fonts format. This is quite a novelty and a very promising technology at the same time. It allows designers to store colour information inside the font. Due to my experience with layered colour thinking that I explored in my first family - Epilepsja , I decided to make several preset layer combinations in this auspicious format. This sub-group is tagged RGB. Make sure that your field of usage and software support OT-SVG format. However, if you feel a need to experiment in the old-fashioned way, you may buy separate layers under the DIY tag. The last group is very similar to the DIY, but it was optimized to look better when standing without other layers. It’s called PRO*. It shares many of the characteristics of it’s sibling, but is drawn entirely from scratch and has it’s own unique character. To some it may be reminiscent of various mid-century neon signage, and of sign writing, Speedball alphabets and even baseball scripts. The design of Dynascript also takes some cues from a historical typographic curiosity that began in Germany in the ‘20s and which lasted into the ‘60s—when Photo-Lettering gave it the name "Zip-Top". Basically it was believed to be the wave of the future—that by weighting an alphabet heavier in its top half, one could increase legibility and reading speed. The jury’s still out on whether or not there’s any validity to this claim, but I think you’ll agree that in the context of this design, the heavier weighting at the top of the letters helps to create some uniquely pleasing forms, and a script unlike any other. Typesetters across the planet will also be able to set copy in their language of choice. ATF Franklin Gothic® A new take on an old favorite Franklin Gothic has been the quintessential American sans for more than a century. Designed by Morris Fuller Benton and released in 1905 by American Type Founders, Franklin Gothic quickly stood out in the crowded field of sans-serif types, gaining an enduring popularity. Benton’s original design was a display face in a single weight. It had a bold, direct solidity, yet conveyed plenty of character. A modern typeface in the tradition of 19th-century grotesques, Franklin Gothic was drawn with a distinctive contrast in stroke weight, giving it a unique personality among the more mono-linear appearance of later geometric and neo-grotesque sans-serif types. Franklin Gothic has been interpreted into a series of weights before, most notably with ITC Franklin Gothic. But as the original type was just a bold display face (later accompanied by a few similarly bold widths and italics), how Benton’s design is expanded to multiple weights and styles as a digital type family can vary significantly. Benton designed several gothic faces that harmonize with one another, including Franklin Gothic, News Gothic, and Monotone Gothic, that can serve as models for new interpretations of his work. With ATF Franklin Gothic, Mark van Bronkhorst looked to Benton’s Monotone Gothic—originally a single typeface in a regular weight, and similar to Franklin Gothic in its forms—as the basis for lighter styles. ATF Franklin Gothic may appear familiar given its heritage, but is a new design offering a fresh take on Benton’s work. The text weights are wider and more open than some previous Franklin Gothic interpretations, and as a result are quite legible as text, at very small sizes, and on screen. Big News! Tenez has been selected for the Tipos Latinos Biennial 2016 and Typographica’s Favorite Typefaces of 2015! Tenez is a Grand Slam display didone typeface from Plau. We designed it for a branding project, further developing the resulting logotype into a typeface we felt could solve many designers’ needs. Its origins are rooted in pointed nib calligraphy which can be seen in contemporary Didot and Bodoni inspired typefaces. But Tenez’s shapes are organic (these modern typefaces were originally cut by hand after all) – in fact that was the challenge we set from the start: to make a typeface as organic in construction as possible. This echoes some of late 19th century typefaces and advertising, yet we thought of it for contemporary uses. One of the several unique features of Tenez is its unusual Thin weight, in which the contrast between thin strokes and the black area left by the serifs makes for a typewriter-like personality. The italics provide a perfect counterpoint to the roman weights. Tenez was unapologetically conceived as a display typeface meant to be used large as in magazine openings, drop caps or everywhere there’s a need for elegant impact. The family includes support for almost all Latin languages available, figure sets for almost every conceivable occasion (tables, text, you name it), alternates for the quirky beautiful R (sometimes simpler is better, but not always!) and Q (with a nice big tail for that article opener). Tenez pairs really well with our no-frills sans-serif Motiva Sans and our cute vertical connected script Primot.

MyCRFT was designed as a custom heading typeface for Drew Maughan's IhNohMinecraft project. ABOUT THE PROJECT Beginning life in 2015 under the name Mascoteers, the project was an ensemble of small-scale characters built from LEGO elements. The challenge was in creating the different figures with the restrictions of existing LEGO elements, while being recognisable as individual characters. The project was initially well received within the LEGO community and with the general public, but was eventually ignored and even ridiculed in favour of LEGO's own BrickHeadz theme, launched in late 2016. It was rebranded IhNohMinecraft as a response to the deliberate cries of "Ih dih Minecraft?" since BrickHeadz' launch. The project has no relation to the popular game. ABOUT THE TYPEFACE The motivation to create MyCRFT was as part of establishing IhNohMinecraft as its own project, by giving it a new visual identity. The typeface could be described as a cross between the ones used for Gears Of War and Overwatch. I liked the boldness of the former, and the italicized straight edges of the latter. MyCRFT was intended to be used in its Black Italic form from the beginning, and was designed around the letters from the word MINECRAFT. Where I couldn't decide on specific characters, I've included the designs as alternative glyphs. I've also included the old "square" Mascoteers logo and the newer "head" IhNohMinecraft logo. Centro Slab Press: Specimen Manual PDF Ever since its first release, Centro Slab has been particularly popular with corporate applications, branding and print media. The new Centro Slab Press version was redesigned with narrower proportions which are better suited for publications such as magazines and newspapers as well as web applications. Centro Slab Press is a very clean and legible typeface even at heavier weights, a characteristic which is not often seen among slab typefaces. This is part due to the fact that Centro Slab Press is not overpowered by clumsy serifs. Instead it incorporates semi-slabs which provide comfortable reading without compromising its modern profile. The italics are narrower than the romans and incorporate beautiful cursive characteristics. Futura is a classic geometric sans serif, one of the crucial typefaces of the 20th century. It remains relevant today and is widely used in logos, headings, web and print. Futura was designed by Paul Renner for Bauersche Gießerei (Bauer) in 1927. The typeface is based on simple geometric forms and is close in the aesthetics to 1920s-30s constructivism and the Bauhaus. Futura PT is the most complete Cyrillic version of Futura. It’s a type system of 25 styles: 16 regular and 9 narrow, from Thin to Extrabold. Futura PT has linear and old style figures, subscripts and fractions. The typeface supports more than 100 languages: Western and Central European Latin and the Cyrillic-extended. The Cyrillic version of Futura was designed by Vladimir Yefimov in 1991–1995. He partially redesigned the typeface in 2007, making it a wholesome consistent system, and Isabella Chaeva added new styles. The typeface was released under the name Futura PT.
