Ragik; It is a low-contrast sans serif font family with two accents. The letters are designed with a clear and simple elegance, devoid of ornaments. The open terminals of the letters “S, C, G, s, a, c, e” are elegant and legible with their large open areas. It consists of 16 styles, from thin to heavy, with true italics. Ideal for modern typographic posters, packaging and branding designs. It comes with rich OpenType features. Alternating glyphs, elegant and functional ligatures. All number sets (tnum, onum, lnum, numr, denom, sinf, sups etc.) have a rich symbol library with ornaments and arrows.

The 1934 French publication L'Art du Tracé Rationnel de la Lettre is a vintage guide book on lettering chock full of interesting alphabets that have been an ongoing source of digital type revivals from the designs found within its pages. Monthly Statement JNL is a squared slab serif design with some Art Deco flair; available in both regular and oblique versions. This style of type evokes images of billheads, bank statements and other important documents of the era.

The Samba family was inspired by the lettering art of J. Carlos, a Brazilian illustrator during the early 20th century. Turned into a workable series of fonts by the contemporary Brazilian designers Tony and Caio de Marco, Samba is especially recommended for use in logos, flyers, posters, and tattoos! This family offers the user a chance to mix three different styles of lettering into one coherent design, which can be very useful in solving certain design problems. While the regular Samba face is made up of mono-line letters, the style of Samba bold offers much more of a thick to thin contrast. The Samba Expert set displays lavish swash endings, which were inspired by Brazilian metal work. The Samba family was one of the winners selected during the 2003 International Type Design Contest, sponsored by Linotype GmbH.

True North is a vintage inspired typeface with 16 styles and a monoline script. True North comes with labels, extras and free banners. Extras include wild animals, catchwords, numbers, symbols, tools, maple leaves and trees. True North is a headline font with alternate capitals. Combine all 16 styles with the script, banners, labels and extras and you get a wonderful vintage design. True North Script is a playful, fully-connected monoline script full of ligatures and alternate forms. Its wide range of international characters and alternate use of the power of OpenType automatically creates the feel of hand-lettering.

A ‘Brochette’ in French is a skewer. I used to be a tour guide and some years ago, I guided a couple of tours in Mali. Every night at dinner we had the choice of a ‘Brochette de Capitaine’ (grilled Nile perch on a skewer) or a ‘Brochette de Bœuf’ (grilled beef on a skewer). Of course, every night the Brochette came with French fries and ‘petits pois’ (peas). It was really nice, but after 4 months of eating Brochettes, I longed for something different! Brochette is a very nice rounded font. It comes with curls, swirls and swashes.

Vienna is the work of Dutch graphic designer Anthony De Meester, a light, elegant sans serif. Simplicity is the hallmark of Vienna and it can be used most effectively where a look of regal elegance is desired.

Octagen is a family of 16 condensed Sans Serif fonts of geometric construction and neo-Gothic style with short descenders and a humanistic finish in the curves and auctions of the tiny letters to avoid the coldness of the grotesque typographies, providing expressiveness, energy, warmth and docility , resulting in a friendly typography with a lot of personality and readability, specially drawn for the composition of short and medium texts, signage or headlines where horizontal space saving is needed. The typography has 529 glyphs (Latin Extended-A) with advanced OpenType functions, several number games, a complete set of neutral-style alternative lower case letters and the Bitcoin symbol. For Octagen cursive styles I used a set of lowercase letters without terminal finishes, more neutral than the regular versions, this being compensated by the expressiveness of the italics inclination, thus achieving important morphological, coherent differences within the conceptual development of this typographic family.

The Brass Family has a lineage that extends into English history. About five hundred years ago a devout, but anonymous Englishman gave glory to the God he worshipped by designing the capital letters and decorations of these two fonts. Originally recorded in The History Of Mediaeval Alphabets And Devices by Henry Shaw (London 1853), they are described by Alexander Nesbitt in his Decorative Alphabets And Initials (Mineola, NY 1959) as “Initials and stop ornaments from brasses in Westminster Abbey.” I wish I could say I remember seeing them when I was there, but that was forty-two years ago and all I remember was seeing the tomb of Edward the Confessor. One definition of “stop” as a noun is a point of punctuation. I have heard people from the British Isles speak of a “full stop” when referring to a period. Some may remember a 19th century form of communication called a telegram being read aloud in an old movie, with the use of the word “stop” to indicate the end of a sentence or fragment. A full dozen of these stop ornaments are provided. They occupy positions 060, 062, 094, 123, 125, 126, 135, 137, 167, 172, 177 & 190. The Brass Family consists of two fonts: Brass and Brass Too. Both fonts have an identical upper case and ornaments, but paired with different lower cases. Although the typefaces from which the lower cases were drawn are both of modern design, both are interpretations of the textura style of blackletter in use in England when the upper case and ornaments were fashioned for the Abbey. Brass is paired with Morris Gothic, which matches the color of the upper case quite well. Brass Too is paired with Wedding Regular, which is distinctly lighter than the upper case. I find it very interesting how each connects differently. The resulting fonts are unusual and most useful for evoking an historic atmosphere.

Guanabara is the third release of Plau Type Foundry. It started from the need of a wayfinding typeface that had personality enough to be the brand typeface for a city. The city of Rio de Janeiro, with its never-ending curves and all year long summer weather provided the constraints and requirements of this typeface. From there, it evolved to be a workhorse, with 8 weights from Thin to Black and matching true italics. It just had to have the features that all us designers have grown to love, such as alternate letters (a, g and r for the romans), tabular and proportional figures in lining and oldstyle set-ups as well as small caps, fractions and all that jazz (I mean, samba). And it needed to be recognizable and distinct. For that, design features like tapered R legs, capitals with classic proportions and calligraphic finishes on the terminals proved crucial. And last, but not least, like Rio, it had to welcome many cultures. We came to think of it as the “Typeface from Ipanema”, with a classic, timeless look, swinging elegance and joyful attitude.

Drone is a deliberately misproportioned typeface, inspired by hand-drawn lettering found in Spanish/Hispanic Catholic churches in the Philippines and Los Angeles. These naive letterforms appeared to be ‘copies of copies’ – and in aiming to recreate the beauty of the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel they instead created something unique with its own charm and beauty. As a curious aside, the forms are reminiscent of those found in 16th century English calligraphy too. Drone is available in two styles: No.666 and No.90210.

Curve is a modern neo-classical typeface family with some features of the Didone genre, but especially designed for contemporary typography. A large x-height not only creates space in the letters for extra-bold styles, but also lends Curve an open and generous character in the more narrow and semi-bold versions. It has 616 glyphs with small caps, numbers and ligatures in 10 weights. Curve is a contemporary serif typeface, special for logos, brands, magazines and editorial and for setting trends in fashion and design.

Fondue: an eclectic-flavoured contemporary typeface. Designed by Jorge Alberto Martínez and Latinotype Team. Fondue is a type family of eclectic shapes, inspired by Art Deco designs, in particular, the lettering used by the Mexican cartoonist Ernesto “El Chango” Cabral on almost the entire publication Revista de Revistas ("Magazine of Magazines"). Far from being a copy, Fondue expects to be an adaptation of the thinking of that time to be used in contemporary context. Fondue has a cursive ductus, wide horizontal proportion and large x-height. Its friendly consistent rhythm makes it ideal for medium-sized text, headlines, branding, and so on. The family comes in 6 weights, from Thin, which reminds of the cartoonist’s loose strokes, to Ultra Bold, the version with powerful and unique voice. Lempicka is a ligature-rich typeface duo with support for Latin and Greek. Lempicka Display and Small Caps are a pair of light, clean fonts with strong Art Deco character. An old book found at a Paris bouquiniste contained samples of the typeface “Caractère de finance,” a bâtarde design by 18th century typefounder Pierre Simon Fournier. Rather than revive the type, Kanna Aoki decided to reinvent it, using a felt pen to achieve a rustic, handwritten quality, departing from the 18th century model as she saw fit. MVB Chanson d'Amour conveys a soulful elegance that stops short of the ostentatious, overwrought found in many formal scripts. It is lovely and sweet, but never saccharine.
