OmegaPixel Font Description I created this font for the game Hyper Ninja Blast (but made it useful to all kinds of games!). While creating the game, I searched for pixel fonts, but could not find a suitable one. The fonts were generally ugly and lacking the basic variations (italic and bold). So I decided to create my own pixel font. Just as pixel art can be better than a high-resolution painting, so pixel fonts don’t need to be always worse than traditional fonts. In OmegaPixel I tried to achieve elegance, readability and flexibility within the limitations of a 6 pixel x-height. With 4 versions (regular, italic, bold and bold italic), and a neutral feel, OmegaPixel can be used in any genre of games. Considering the general lack of money among indie game devs, I’m giving the regular version for free! For inspiration, I often remebered Minion’s lowercase ‘a’, Galliard italic lowercase ‘g’, and the calligraphy of Chinese emperor Huizong.

Bold, black and square. But was first drawn as a logotype for the magazine "BUT – Bilder und Texte" (pictures and texts) which was published by an experimentally-oriented non-commercial initiative. In consideration of the unusual dimensions of the magazine (6 x 14 cm / 2,4 x 5,5 inch), I decided to fill as much space as possible with the body of type. This formal idea refers to the meaning of the title by blurring the border between legible letters and abstract shapes. Because of its origin, But is ideal for short messages in headline point size. Despite its blocky shapes, But creates a friendly atmosphere. The details are as playful as the restrictions that are given by the concept allow them to be. Punctuation marks and other special characters contrast the boldness of the design since they are matching the thin parts of upper- and lowercase letters. This also avoids gaps when longer texts are set. But is available in open type format and has an extended character set (Latin extended A). Two sets of numerals, one matching the x-height and another one matching the cap-height, are provided.

Soleil, designed by Wolfgang Homola, is a geometric sans serif typeface. Unlike most existing geometric sans serif typefaces, it has asymmetrical counters, making it look fresher, more dynamic and more contemporary. Simple geometric forms – such as the circle or the square – played a certain role in the design of the letterforms, but in order to introduce more fluidity into the rather stiff and rigid concept of geometric sans serif typefaces, a lot of optical corrections were necessary. Soleil is based on the modernist ideas of simplicity, clarity and reduction to essential forms. Yet its letter shapes are not the result of geometric construction, but of a design process that brings together simplicity and fluidity, clarity and rhythm. Soleil has a rather large x-height, making it legible also in small sizes or from a bigger distance. The typeface family consists of six weights. The Opentype version also allows for the implementation of typographic features such as Small Caps, lining and old-style figures, both tabular and proportional, ligatures, alternate characters, case-sensitive variants and fractions. Soleil offers a wide range of potential applications: signage and wayfinding systems, book and magazine design, branding and corporate publications.

Kamui is a font designed by Carlos Fabian Camargo G. and used to write headlines. Its strategy makes it ideal for covers and advertisements with Japanese-style manga comics requiring latin style. Precisely its purpose was inspired by typographical classics such as Mistral by R. Excoffon and Zapfino by H. Zapf that then were diluted by separate strokes as blackletter calligraphy. However, high doses of miscegenation and lettering untimely torn between 50% esthetic and 50% legibility. That way his radical expression is highly profitable for composing and designing words and phrases with Eastern look. And more importantly, the writing seems drawn quickly with thin-tipped brush staining over a rough surface, from that process comes the idea of corroded outlines and changes in contrast. In conclusion, some diagonal strokes, horizontal, curved and vertical stand or hide from their simulation of scarcity or abundance of ink clots. That way each stroke seems inconsistent, footprint of the 423 brush drawing glyphs in Regular Kamuy. In that sense, the OpenType features included are: Standard Ligatures, Contextual Alternates, discretionary ligatures, swash, stylistic alternates, alternatives for titles, ordinals, fractions. And to end the Variable “Kamuy Dingbats” has is 52 fictitious drawings and zamurais.

Rough Love, it’s fair to say, came before Love Script. The brushed letter specimens that would ultimately serve as the template for the much ‘cleaner’ Love Script have now been turned into a typeface. As I packed these up, I just kept coming back to them and staring at the texture and movement caught on the page. On a lark, I decided it would be fun to let people see an almost a before and after scenario of how one led to the other and decided to produce a typeface from these specimens… Rough Love. For the most part, in typical fashion for me when I brush out a typeface idea, I try to brush the entire character set along with each of the planned variants for swashes, titling, and other alternates—the reason for that is simple -- each letter looks and acts a bit differently when the same movements are imposed on them. With Rough Love, I tried to adhere to that and made very few modifications to the originals, and only had to ‘borrow’ in a few occasions when I happened to forget to brush a variant.

Fixture is our massive 72-font take on plentiful offerings of the late 19th century’s typefaces, posters and wood letterpress sundry done in the Grotesk genre. Four widths ranging from Ultra Compressed to Expanded each come in nine weights and accompanying italics. Some common sans-serif alternates, such as the a and g, are included in all the fonts. The idea with this design was to put together a workhorse font family with enough functional flexibility to work in multiple environments, from the subtlety of magazine layout or film credits to the visual drama of billboards or packaging. Aesthetically speaking, it is quite interesting — though in retrospect quite unintentional — that each different width and/or weight of this face ended up pulling a different dominant trait from the melting-pot origins of the entire family. It’s almost like a tribute album to some famous band’s covers of older songs. It may also be a good conversation piece on our tools shaping the very things for which they’re used. Can’t really get any more post-Grotesk than this. In the 21st century, this is the one genre to rule them all.

Antonietta is Mauricio Astete Brito's first typeface, which is inspired by the eccentricity of the rococo style and Queen Marie Antoinette's wild personality. This project, supervised by Latinotype Team, was born from the idea of turning lettering into a digital typeface. Antonietta is based on the Copperplate style and inspired by the works of, among others, Hermann Zapf, Ricardo Rousselot and Herb Lubalin. Although I chose this font name because of its sound and its short conciseness, I also liked the fact that Bartholomew had been one of the 12 apostles who had worked in India and Iran and the idea that his spirit could be the inspiration for my work.Bartosh was designed for display on the screen: the large x-height and the clear, open shapes facilitate readability. As a result, it develops a strong expression of character and makes it ideal for headings or highlighting individual text passages – it is ideal for captions of any kind. Cíclope is a typeface family designed by Carlos Fabián Camargo in 2012 and used to write the headlines. Its idea is based on an army of stone soldiers that with their size and strength cause earthquakes. Under this concept he obtained stencil and sans serif letters with monstrous shapes and torn counterforms. Its usefulness as well as readability consists in imitate rocks with scars and cracks. For that reason, Cíclope family has three sizes, each with their respective italics distributed at different levels of corrosion. In addition, each file contains 260 glyphs useful for designing words and phrases with systematically eroded treatments for advertisement material. Thus Cíclope works as a raw material in the exploration of new graphic design. Finally, Cíclope concept has grotesque, geometric and humanistics letters roots that seem disastrous but each and every detail has been planned with high definition drawing. Most importantly, it expresses a big amount of grunge style with cracked edges and medium contrast between thin and thick strokes. In that sense, the writing seems impaired and special for design of logos, posters, flyers, brochures and worn, crusty or demolished graphic design.

Senkron is composed of "normal" and a "blok" styles. Senkron ("normal") was designed as a pure and modern neo grotesk font. The anatomy of the letters are designed to achieve an equal text color. For this purpose, the legs of the letters “R” and "K" are designed with a vertical angle to prevent the white space that would occur in the middle of these letters. In the minuscule, the characteristic features of letters such as ‘a’, ‘l’, ‘t’ are concretized and legibility is supported in the text. Considerable attention has been paid to the harmony between the anatomical structures of the letters and the diacritical mark’s structure. Senkron Blok is arranged for situations which have diacritical marks overflow to leadings of the headline and headline typographical color is affected negatively from this situation. For this purpose, majuscule diacritical letters are resolved within the letter height. However, when this is done, new forms are obtained by integrated diacritical marks with letters instead of directly merging them. "Humanista" is the name of a multilingual chancery script font by Bertram Kaiser. The idea in this long-term project was to blend the boundaries between analogue calligraphic handwriting and designing a font digitally, while using all technical possibilities of modern type design. All glyphs were originally written with a broadnib and then carefully vectorized, creating a human charme inside the font. In this design you will find influences from great calligraphy masters like Hermann Zapf or Werner Schneider. The pro version comes along with a big variety of alternate glyphs, initial and terminal forms, swash capitals and ligatures, which gives you the possibility of designing individual text layouts. A shape-shaky script font that reacts to audio! Thanks to the variable font technology, fonts today can be variable be it weight, width or any other parameters that are defined by values such as shape! Even better: in html, with a bit of css (and in this case, javascript as well) it is possible to animate them between these values. This gave me the idea to create something really fun which is a quirky, informal handwritten font that can react to sound. The html file along with css and javascript is taken from codepen.io and I was using and tweaking it to this specific project. Pliego has been named after Pliegos de Cordel, the Spanish word for the popular books that were common during the XVI, XVII and XVIII centuries. These were rough, cheap books that basically consisted in a folded sheet attached to a string, hence the name. Their content was varied, from popular tales to ballads and songs, but also crimes and mysteries. They were cheaply made, roughly printed and bound. The name Pliego evokes the idea of a rough look, angular edges, informal taste, but classical look. To cover today’s needs, Pliego includes five weights with matching italics. Designed and engineered for continuous reading, the Book, Regular and Medium weights will perform at their best under 14 points. However, don’t be scared to use for headlines and titles: because of its quirky details and calligraphic flavour, Pliego’s personality is accentuated when enlarged. Inspired by the old Stephenson Blake Caps only font Algerian from 1908, this version, named Algerian Mesa, has been freshened up with a new matching lowercase. The original Algerian, on page 142 of the 1908 Stephenson Blake specimen book, was a small caps to a more decorative lining caps and the plain black version, without the shadow line, was named Gloria. Also on page 142 of the 1908 Stephenson Blake specimen book is a shaded Latin font that gave me the idea for the Alt version of Algerian Mesa. The Alt version works well at smaller point sizes combined with the regular Algerian Mesa font on the same page. New for 2016 were Opentype features including original alternates, oldstyle numerals and case sensitive forms, also new is a fully usable Alt version. New for 2022 are the higher x-height, 90% small caps, 80% small caps and all new italic versions. Also new for 2022 are straight sided accent marks replacing the flared or curved accents. While Algerian Mesa includes some alternates our related Tavern font will still remain the version with more alternates and more weights.

I just loved the design idea behind this font, but the original font had a lot of ugly artifacts - so I have completely redrawn ALL the letters, before expanding the character set. The lowercase has been redrawn with a higher x-height, making the font even more usable (with more "normal" word shapes). ALL fonts from CheapProFonts have very extensive language support: They contain some unusual diacritic letters (some of which are contained in the Latin Extended-B Unicode block) supporting: Cornish, Filipino (Tagalog), Guarani, Luxembourgian, Malagasy, Romanian, Ulithian and Welsh. Fer is a sans-serif font for body text, not lacking in its own distinctive voice. The aftertaste of reading the text set in Fer is like reading the letters on old rusty plates somewhere in Southern Europe, hence the name (Fer means iron in French). Being a modern system that includes a variable font with weight and optical size axes, Fer combines the features of geometriс sans serifs and old sans serifs with closed apertures. The typeface contains three sets of styles: for captions, text and headings, — with the weight ranging from regular to black. Fer was created with the idea to unite nations. The Latin character set supports all European languages, most African languages and Vietnamese. Cyrillic has support for all living Cyrillic languages and some obsolete characters too. The font also supports the Greek language. Additionally, the character set includes currency signs of all supported languages’ countries, old style, lining, tabular and proportional figures as well as numbers in squares and circles. A three-dimensional all-cap font for title use, Thorowgood Sans Shaded was released by the Fann Street Foundry of W. Thorowgood & Co. in 1839. Interestingly, it more closely resembles Figgins' Four-Line Emerald Sans-Serif Shaded of 1833 than Fann Street’s own Grotesque Shaded of 1834 (with light and shadow reversed). The idea of a shaded font is of an outline font whose letters have each been extruded through a die and then viewed from the lower right to reveal the third dimension. That third dimension has also been referred to as a shadow. Vincent Figgins' 1815-release of a shaded serif typeface was the first known of many shaded faces, as the other foundries rushed to bring out their own versions. Thorowgood Sans Shaded may be gainfully used today as a eye-catching headline font, just as it was so popularly used in the early nineteenth century. To assist with the usual all-cap letter-spacing problem, the following pre-kerned pairs are included: AT, AV, AW and AY. It was in the beginning of 2008 when I designed a font named Quijote, its predecessor. In the middle of 2009, I looked at it again and thought it could be a good idea to make an update of it. Variables and Features: Quijote Sauvage Pro is the most complete variable. It includes all the ligatures, alternates and swashes. It has the OpenType function in order to alternate glyphs easily when running applications which support this. The font is also offered separately. Quijote Sauvage Standard has the right glyphs to get an equilibrium between wildness and softness. It includes standard and discretionary ligatures. Quijote Sauvage Stylistic has the sharpest glyphs. Its decorative traces are discreet in order not to have problems as regards legibility. Its upper case are less wild than the other variables. Quijote Sauvage Text is the most discreet of its partners. This one was thought in order to improve legibility. Its ascenders and descenders are shorter, so the words are easier to read in small sizes. Quijote Sauvage Contextual, Swash and Titling, are the ones with wonderful terminals. They decorate words, adding a wonderful look of wildness or passion.

I had a totally different name assigned to this font at first. Then, while drifting off to sleep one night during the creation process, my sleepy brain said, "You know, BLORP would be a great name to go with these letter shapes." Normally when I have those half-asleep ideas and look at them in the morning, they make no sense. But I decided to make a sample image for BLORP, and it turns out I really like it! So ... BLORP it is! This font is extensively edited for super-smooth lines and curves, so it'll cut like butter in your Cricut or Silhouette machine. Though it's also super cute for print projects, logos, branding, or anything else you want to use it for!
