Sometimes you get an idea stuck in your head and the only way to get rid of that demon is to put something down on paper. A year later the doodles became a skeleton, and then the skeleton had a body, then the body had a name, then the name got a personality. What was left was a clean set of ten fonts that encompass a very simple skeleton with a lot of visual appeal. During the process, I saw ways to expand the typeface's display capabilities by producing inline styles as well as a down-and-dirty rough set. Each font has a full set of glyphs that include Central European and Small Cap characters.

Edito is a completely new bodycopy font. The special thing about this font is, that all serifs have the same height. So no matter if you take the thinnest cut (A) or the fattest (F), you will always have aligning serifs. I started Edito as an experiment. I tried to enhance the classic and sturdy Times font. But I soon dicovered, that it would be more efficient to take only the basic idea behind Times (the robust design) and start from scratch. Panorama KG is a black display font. The starting idea was to design letters that stand on the horizon. For that reason, the descenders are extremely short, and the elements of the letters lying on the base line are cutten, the horizontal strokes are lowered ... These characteristics should reduce the spacing and emphasize the compactness of densely composed titles and shorter text forms. Panorama KG was designed specifically for headlines, logotypes, branding, and similar applications... Due to the characteristics that are in function only in the bold version, it did not make sense to make more styles or family, but Panorama KG can be combined with many other serif and sans serif typefaces.

The idea of Transport originates from text found on the large wooden boxes used for transport. Such text is still stencilled on them in the same way as the companies have done for decades, at least. That explains the typeface's name, too. If you find some similarities with Devin, you are right. Transport is nothing other than a special variant of Devin. But since the two are aimed for totally different uses, I decided to use two different names for them. Transport is a mecane and its use is primarily as a headline typeface. But in small quantities it can be used even for body setting, if special effects are desired. Transport was released in 1994.

Wilderness X is a font name that has a very wide wilderness concept. This font has a very large variety of characters, including isolated characters with strong definition and small text. It is also a font which can be used as a random display font. There are also many other options, such as: different stroke thickness and size, change the glyphs and so on A wilder a wilderness, the more rewarding the journey...I love the idea of exploring and staying on the edge, getting dirty and making my path is challenging. Wilderness X is not a bland font but has a bit of badness in it which makes it more interesting and attractive.

Handsome, adventurous, legible and elegant, this script has the feel of practical handwriting from past centuries. Aquiline is based on a cursive italic style influenced by the 16th century European writing masters. The Aquiline design team turned to Ludovico degli Arrighi, the great 16th century writing master, for period ideas on how to improve, strengthen and add grace to the font. Aquiline has strokes and gestures that seem very like the writing of Arrighi and Mercator, such as the flamboyant balloon of a flourish on the cap A; the graceful flourishes on the cap B, D, and L; and the compact lowercase with tall ascenders. Aquiline has a strong personality and is historically correct.

Whimsical Musical is a vivid, hand drawn font with 405 alternate letters, all caps. Developed from a lighthearted drawing in my sketchbook saying the German word “MUSIK” cheerfully over and over in twenty vivid variations. Next to it was the date “6th April 2007”. This initial idea has burst into a font that is full of surprises and whimsical turns. It is dynamically suggestive, like music, and humorously chaotic, as in Dada. Each uppercase letter is enriched with ten stylistic alternates (OpenType stylistic sets) to create a heap of playful variations amounting to a mountain of possibilities. Recommended for display usage: gonzo headlines, fantastical picturesque covers, extravagant quirky flyers, chichi posters, individual labels and fun logos.

Cantilever is a variable, 20 style display typeface designed by Stew Deane. The idea came from using variable type mechanics to create a typeface that became more than type — it's designed to be impactful, fill space and turn text into something graphic and visual. Being fixed-width (at whatever width you choose) means it is perfect for stacking, as well as stretching ultra wide. It's a typeface designed to take centre stage and own space. By using the variable sliders in your design software you can give your typography a bespoke, ownable aesthetic. Last Bastion is a strong, resolute serif typeface. The original inspiration came from the idea of an impenetrable medieval fortress that has stood the test of time and defended generations of hardened soldiers. Large stone towers and fortifications are reflected in the font's bold stems. The sans serif font offers a more modern and clean look, while the Gothic font shows the typeface's darker side. All three fonts include alternates for all letters and numbers in both caps and small caps. Last Bastion lends itself to branding, billboards, signage and industry to name a few. Manuel, a simple, almost mathematically constructed typeface, includes stylistic alternates for a number of upper case characters. This comes in very helpful when designing logo letterings. Manuel(a) is a very charming, self-confident und exciting typeface design. The idea was to try to apply a given design criteria (also see Volker Schnebel's Marita and Martin fonts) to every single character. In other words, start with a character and develop all of the others from it. This is quite easy for some characters but extremely difficult for others. This process generates creativity and the characters move away from the initial constructed sketch. Together in a typeface, the individual characters are now all of a piece and character.

Candy Design is a display font containing 265 glyphs. It was designed during a stay in Tanzania, Zanzibar in 2022. The main idea was to combine a sans-serif modernist, grotesque typeface with the addition of delicate Arabic accents. Its main assumption of use is posters, product design and branding. When I created Face Your Fears some years ago, it was an instant hit. I have seen it on Gangsta Rap albums, metal albums, books and on movie posters. It has been used for T-shirts, websites and, believe it or not, for a beer label as well. I have always toyed with the idea of redoing the original font, as some of the glyphs were a bit off. Face Your Fears II is similar in nature to the original font, but comes with a lot of improvements, has slightly altered glyphs and (probably) better kerning. But maybe, just maybe, it isn't your cup o' tea. In that case, you can always just go for the original!
